Community organization as a method of social work is the least known and inadequately taught in the Philippines, but is becoming more important due to increasing problems on a large scale. The social work profession needs to define its area of practice of community organization and strengthen its expertise in this area to address current realities. Community organization is a practice based on knowledge and principles that is carried out by trained social workers through analyzing community problems and needs with participation of residents to empower communities to self-manage.

Work is the least known and inadequately
taught in the schools of social work in the
Philippines. But with the changing times that
had unshared in multi-faceted problems in
larger scale and the government’s development
thrust in the country side as well as in the
urban centers, the time of the practice of
community organization (C.O.) in the
Philippines has come.

5.  The social work profession thus needs to
project and delineate its area of practice. Its
expertise in community organization have also
to be honed and made more relevant to present
realities in the country.

7.  These problems are brought about by the
operational breakdown of either the producing
system or the consuming public.
 This breakdown results to gaps in services and
lack of resources.

8.  When our population increases, the demand on
the producing system as well as on the labor
market increases.
 Failing to produce adequate food, clothing,
shelter, new jobs and establish basic social
facilities for our increasing population, results
more problems, crimes and delinquency.

10.  Refers to the irrelevant or defective social
policies and community decision-making
process which need to be changed or modified
as they adversely affect the interests and the
welfare of the majority of the people.

of baseline data on the community problems
and needs with the participation of the people
involved from the stages of problem/need
identification, planning their solutions,
implementation of the plans, monitoring, and
evaluation.

people so they can attain a self-reliant and self-
managed community.
5. It adheres to the concept of integrated and
coordinated efforts with other sectors of
community and employing interdisciplinary
