well-being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity.
It leads to a socially and economically productive life.
(WHO) Community – is defined as a sociological group in a
large place sharing one environment. It therefore includes
the individual and the family.

one environment - includes the individual and the family
Community Health – is defined as the art and science of maintaining,
protecting and improving the health of all the members of the
community through organized and sustained community efforts.
Environment – refers to all the things, conditions, and influences that affect the growth, health,
and progress of living and non-living things.
Environmental Health - comprises those aspects of human health that are determined by
physical, chemical, biological, social, and psychosocial factors in the surrounding environment
CHARACTERISTICS OF A HEALTHY
COMMUNITY
1. A clean and safe physical environment.
2. An environment that meets everyone’s basic needs.
3. An environment that promotes social harmony and actively involves
everyone.
4. An understanding of local health and environmental issues.
5. A community that participates in identifying local solutions to local
problems.
6. A community whose members have access to varied experiences, means of
interaction and communication.
7. Accessible and appropriate health services and facilities.
8. The promotion and celebration of historical and cultural heritage.
9. A diverse and innovative economy.
10. A sustainable use of available resources for all.
REMEMBER!
A healthy environment is essential for human health and
well-being. Everyone must help in making the environment
healthy because this increases quality of life and years of

IMPROPER WASTE DISPOSAL
Waste improperly disposed of contaminates the soil, air and water. This brings
risks to humans, animals, and plants
Things we do to solve or eradicate this problem:
1. Observe proper segregation
2. Observe the 3 Rs- reduce, reuse, recycle
3. Limit or avoid using non-biodegradable materials like plastic; they don’t
decay, and they pile up and clog waterways
POLLUTION
It is an adverse effect in the environment brought about by pollutants.
Pollutant is a harmful substance, compound, or energy.
Types of Pollution
a. Air Pollution- refers to the contamination of the air that occurs harmful
gases, dust, and smoke are mixed with the air in the atmosphere making it
dangerous to living things.
b. Water Pollution- refers to the contamination of bodies of water usually by
human activities which negatively affect living things.
c. Land Pollution- is the contamination of the land r soil by deposition of solid
or liquid waste materials.
DISEASE CONTROL
The spread of disease is alarming, not only in the Philippines but
Worldwide. In our country we have National Center for Disease
Control and Prevention under the Department of Health. Aside from
the existing communicable diseases, there are new diseases, which
are still beyond human control.
DRUG ABUSE, PREVENTION AND
CONTROL
• Drug abuse refers to the habitual taking of addictive and illegal
drugs and substances.
• A drug free community contributes not only to peace and order
but also to the health of a community.
PEACE AND ORDER
A peaceful and safe community encourages
businessmen to invest resulting to economic growth.
