Communication in the 21st Century
Communication is the key to social integration. Communication enables people to
share ideas, express their feelings and contribute to discussions and debates. In most
cases, language poses a significant barrier to communication between different
cultures or communities. In the 21st century, the world has become a global
community. To help break the language barrier and arrive at a common ground, people
have to understand and comprehend the behavioral and reaction differences brought
about by cultural differences.
Communication in the 21st century has significantly changed as
compared to communication in the 20th and 19th centuries

Communication skills are Thinking Skills
(Perhaps the most important skill is the ability to boil down your ideas to their essence.
You need to make things clear, simple and logical).
Communication skills are Writing Skills
(Related to your critical thinking skills is your ability to write. As the saying goes,
you don’t really know what you think until you write it down.
We’re writing more than ever:
emails, tweets, presentations, blog posts, you name it.
Even video, which we think of as a visual medium, is actually a narrative medium).
Communication skills are Design Skills
(In our new world we’re not only communicating in words.
We’re also communicating with pictures and graphics).
Communication skills are Creative Skills
(it means being able make decisions, being able to move forward on a task or project
when you’re not sure exactly where you’re heading, being comfortable with
experimentation and uncertainty).
Communication skills are Technological Skills
(You can’t connect with others without understanding the technologies
you’re using to communicate).
Communication skills are Emotional Skills
(It means understanding who your audience is and how it feels).
