The Commonwealth Games are an international multi-sport event held every four years involving countries of the Commonwealth of Nations. The Games originated as the British Empire Games in 1930 and are now patterned after the Olympic Games. The 2010 Commonwealth Games were hosted in Delhi, India from October 3-14, 2010, involving over 6,000 athletes from 71 countries competing in 21 sports. The opening and closing ceremonies were held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
