The 2010 Commonwealth Games were held in Delhi, India from October 3-14, 2010. Delhi beat Hamilton, Ontario in the bidding process to host the games. Over $11.5 billion was spent preparing for the games, including expanding the Delhi Metro, constructing a new airport terminal, and building athlete housing and sports venues. India achieved its best ever performance at the games, winning 101 total medals including 38 gold medals to finish second overall. However, the large budget and reports of corruption, displacement of residents, and other issues surrounding the preparation for the games also attracted criticism.
