Imagine living in a world without bees. What would you eat? What would you wear? What
would the environment be like? You may think that there would be very little change but think
again. The production in crops would decline due to the fact that 70% of the 90% crop species
that we consume are pollinated by bees, not to mention that delicious honey they provide.
Because of this, hunger and poverty would be at an all time high. Our choice in clothing would
decrease as well, being that cotton relies on pollination. Bees even influence our fuel; canola
production would plummet causing a reliance on fossil fuels and resulting in a huge pressure on
our environment. Our world would become a huge, barren desert because of plants not being
able to grow. Humans would most likely die off due to starvation and thirst, and it s all because
of bees. In this speech we are going to learn about what all the buzz is about the benefits of bees to
us, then we will learn about the causes of beeextinction... you wouldn t bee lieve it! Lastly, we will
buzz on over to learn about how we can help the bees in our community.
Now, let s stop to pollinate our first point, our dependence on bees... The way we eat largely
depends on bees and other pollinators. Every 1 in 3 bites of food we eat is another reason to
thank a bee. Coffee, nuts, seeds, berries, fruits, and vegetables are all pollinated and made
possible by bees and without them we would not have most of these foods. The loss of one bee
species can affect what we eat, some bees are used to pollinate certain plants, such as squash
bees. Bees can also affect what nutrients we are getting, bees allow us to have a balanced diet and
without bees we would have a diet that lacks in vital nutrients. As I said before, bees pollinate
the 70% out of the 90% of our crops that we consume, most of the crops that allow us to have a
