Editor's Notes
Morning everyone, and welcome to LSC, an innovative platform to bring Clients, Contractors and their Supply Chain closer together.
So today I am going to run through a bit of history, where its come from, where we are now and why we have created Local Supply Chain and then talk about what happened next.
Don’t just take my word for it, I have joining me David Ralph, CEO of D2N2 who will talk about their views on Local Supply Chain and how it impacts D2N2
I will then give you a sneak peak of some of the system before talking you through what happens next, that should then take us up to coffee time.

So, A quick history
As some of you may remember back in 2009 we launched the build east midlands portal with the Regional Improvement & Efficiency Partnership, an online portal designed to bring together contractors and their projects with the Supply Chain, thus widening participation of the supply chain, providing valuable insights into the make-up of the local supply chain and the challenges they faced.
Build East Midlands was a great success
Over 4000 subcontractors within the east midlands signed up, thus showing the appetite for getting work opportunities
Contractors were using it to source local trades
Thousands of work opportunities were listed on the portal
And
Subcontractors were winning new work
Moreover, the authorities, chamber etc..were able to focus on upskilling the supply chain in the areas they needed improving in the form of training and support.
So, 6 years on, and with the industry in better shape, with the government putting greater emphasis on procurement of local SME’s, with the backing of Scape, EMPA and a number of key organisations, the time was right to re-vamp the platform. A bigger, better, more collaborative portal.
But why?
Well over the last few years we have been hearing all sorts of comments from up and down the supply chain, from Contractors, Consultants, Subcontractors, Clients etc.
All wanting similar things
Greater Visibility
More Opportunity
Local Growth
Timely Feedback
Clients too were telling us of their challenges
From adopting the Social Value Act in terms of taking the power to procure locally, to being able to demonstrate the Construction Local Economic Multipier for their own areas.
Their remit is clear, they want to boost their local economy as well as encourage inward investment, upskill their region and provide a fair and level playing field for engagement.
All are massive drivers for both clients and influencers alike,
Local supply chain will help with all of these.
Imagine being able to draw down data and statistics and have that visibility of public spending all at the click of a button.
So, we have heard why this portal is needed
But, what will it do for me?
For Clients it will….
Provide evidence of your adherence to the Social Value Act
Will give you live information on your Pipeline Projects
Give you actual real live data on the Economic Multiplier
A central place to record your Pipeline projects, something we know is being pushed by the cabinet office
For Contractors it will….
Allow you to capture your supply chain data at source for your Local KPI targets
Provide you with a tool to source more effectively, especially when looking for trades in new areas
Provide your organisation with a joined-up tool to be used across your organisation
For the Supply Chain it will…….
Provide them with the visibility of opportunities they are asking for
Give them more certaintly in the future
Enable them to plan for growth
A very attractive proposition all round, but what does it actually look like?
Web Site Front Page
Here is an example of the Contractors Dashboard, showing key headline information
From the current project pipeline, through to his project work packages across their various stages
It shows at a glance the amount of current procurement, their awards to the subcontractors and importantly the value translated into local spend
Its fast
Its information rich
Its very much task driven, notifying users what they need to do and when
As an interactive portal this will provide all the information they need to make informed decisions on the work they express interest in.
Maps provide a quick and simple view of project locations, and with a click of a mouse they can let the contractor know they are interested.
Obviously, this is just the high level stuff. We would be more than happy to run though the entire solution during coffee breaks and the breakout sessions later.
For now though I would like to talk about what happens next…
For the Supply Chain they get their own view of the world
Again, an interactive dashboard providing them with the key information they need
From Projects they may be watching, through to the available work opportunities and the tasks they may need to do
The Subcontractor will get emailed whenever there is a work opportunity that matches their trade and location. It’s a simple job to then decide if they are interested or not.
In this way we are encouraging a collaborative portal where Clients and Contractors can simply create work packages and let the system broadcast them out and manage the Expressions of Interest through the tender stage to Awards.
Data is thus captured at source, its live and will promote inclusion

Credit report
Documents are vital at tender stage and can be very costly and timely to prepare.
They can be uploaded in one place, very easy to reach to a specific work package and allocated at tender stage to your chosen supplier.
It can also be very costly to hold & store the documents especially with multiply projects and numerus packages.
With Local Supply Chain there is no other cost or any added cost.
