The Netherlands colonized Indonesia between 1800-1950 for economic reasons, needing more land and resources like spices. The Dutch empire spread throughout parts of Asia, Africa, and America during this period. However, Indonesians resisted colonization as it disrupted their way of life and forced them to obey Dutch rule. By 1950, the Dutch empire was driven out of Indonesia and other eastern countries.
