Achievements And Goals Of Captain William Kidd
William Kidd
William Kidd ran away from home when he was 7. After fending for himself 20 years later he became
a high ranking privateer. How did he become so successful with such a rough childhood? Some say he
had to steal food from vendors. All we know is he was a miracle both when sailing and when fending
for himself at a very young age. My biography is about the Beginning, Ending, Achievements, and
Goals of Captain William Kidd.
Captain William Kidd was born in Greenock, Scotland during 1654(?). He had a light red hair and
considerably short. When he turned 7 he ran from home because of his father s death. After 20 years in
New York, Lord Bellemont recruited Kidd as a young privateer. When he first started sailing he was

Melinda s Actions Speak Without Words
It is defiantly possible to speak without words; there are so many ways to convey a message without
verbally saying what you mean. I feel that it s possible to speak without words because in most cases,
a person s actions speak louder than their words. This is demonstrated in the novel when Melinda
refuses to give her speech in class. This shows more about what Melinda has learned about the
freedoms in this country and what the suffragettes fought for than any speech she could have given
verbally. Melinda s actions prove that she is a strong willed person, even if she may seem meek and
mild. I feel that sometimes it is more difficult not to say anything at all than it is to speak a thousand
words Melinda s actions play an important role in

My Puppet Making Journey
In the following essay I will be discussing and explaining the various aspects of my puppet making
journey. This includes the style I have chosen to use, as well as what and who influenced me and how
I plan on using this puppet. I decided to go for the shadow puppetry method.
What exactly is shadow puppetry (also known as shadow play)? In order for something to be
considered as shadow play you only need about three things, namely a source of light, a form (can be
a figure or your hand etc.) and a wall/screen/surface to project onto. If you are like me and try to make
a dog or an ostrich with your hands every chance you get then you can say you have had experience in
shadow puppetry.
I decided to use shadow puppetry because I remember watching a shadow puppet show when I was
younger (about six or seven years old) and it was incredibly captivating yet so simple. The fact that
the images were just silhouettes gave my colourful imagination the chance to paint them any way I
wanted to. I cannot remember the exact show I watched but I do remember the feeling it left me with.
I hope I can achieve the same wonder with my puppets. A court poet during the reign ... Show more

I cut them out and made holes in some for the light to shine through (perforation). I then attached
skewers to the back of each puppet with tape. For the bigger puppet of George Carlin I drew out his
whole face then traced his jaw on a separate piece of paper. I then cut off his initially drawn jaw and
attached the traced one for mobility. One skewer keeps him upright and the other moves his jaw. I
constructed a theatre made out of cardboard. I took a cardboard box and cut out a stage which I
replaced with white paper/screen. There is an opening for my hands in order to put on a show. My
light source will be the flashlight from my phone. I enjoyed this whole process because I had to make
use of my drawing skills as

The Divine Rights Of Kings In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
In ancient times, when humans are in the infant stage of development of human history, humans
understandings of nature are just only based in their imagination. While facing the powerful forces of
nature, people are aware of their own strength is pretty small, and their fate is controlled by an
invisible power they called this unknown force god . With the passage of time, people seem to foresee
the possibility of overcoming nature, and they begin to look forward to their own peers, a powerful
figure, to complete the great cause of beating nature. The emergence of priests shows the beginning of
religion. When it comes to priest, the first thing come up with the most people s mind is The divine
right of Kings in British, which refers to the god empowers Kings with the rights to manage citizens.
Date back to the era of Babylon, the time of the first written form of literature, The Epic of Gilgamesh,
The divine right of Kings had already loomed. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh, the great king of
Urk in the history, had decreed density of king. He had given the supreme power over people, victory
form with no fugitive returns, in forays and assaults from which there is no going back. ( ,24) But at
the same time, the right of king was also retracted by gods. After Gilgamesh s royal friend Enkidu
died, he placed his hope on the everlasting life. In his journey of pursuing everlasting life, even he
found the mysterious plant that enable human to restore lost youth

try and change the law for hunting bears. My least favorite character is Sam and three reasons why I
don t like Sam is he hit Josh in the face almost as hard as a baseball bat. After Josh went and got the
bear and brought it back to the campgrounds. Now Josh and his dad are bringing the bear home. Sam

Causes Of The Dust Bowl
The Dust Bowl began in the 1930s and lasted a decade. It was sometimes referred to as the Dirty
Thirties , which was the name given to the worst natural and manmade disaster in U.S. history. The
lives of thousands, both young and old, were lost due to the damaging effects of the dust. The Dust
Bowl started in the Midwest and affected Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and part
of Nebraska. However, the physical damage was felt throughout the nation, when the winds took the
dust beyond these states. What natural and manmade causes created this human tragedy? How did it
contribute to the decline of the economy and the era known as the Great Depression? How did the
people of the United States persevere through this tragedy, and will we have to go through another
devastating era like this again? The first known cause that contributed to the start of the Dust Bowl
were farmers who began to try new farming techniques in order to increase profit and minimalize
spending. The reasoning behind this was that World War I was going on. This made the demand for
wheat sky rocket, and farmers were being paid record prices for their crops. Our nation was making
money by feeding other nations, and therefore it was logical to turn every foot of land into farming
land. ( United States History. 1) In an effort to help boost the economy, the government provided
cheap federal farm policies which allowed many people to take on the job of farming. In order to
maximize profit,

Huey P. Newton Gun Club Analysis
In light of the racial injustice and police brutality happening across America, many in the Black
community have been left wondering what can we do to fix this problem? While it s evident that the
lack of support has left parts of the Black community in a weakened state, many communities have
started to take matters into their own hands, forming gun clubs as a form of self protection. In the
wake of the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown, a new gun club was formed in Dallas called the Huey P.
Newton Gun Club (HPNGC). Its mission is to provide armed security to businesses in minority
neighborhoods. History of Armed Resistance Armed resistance groups are nothing new. There is a
deep history with gun clubs, which stem back to the Civil Rights era in the 1960 s. Frustrated by the
inhumane treatment of Blacks, political activist Huey P. Newton and classmate, Bobby Seale, formed

Prevention, homicide is the leading cause of death for black men ages 15 34 nationwide. Gun violence
usually occurs as result of frustrations taking place within extremely oppressed areas. When young
kids don t have a healthy outlet for expressing their anger, it can lead to violence and unnecessary
crime. But what s even more disturbing is the ease of which anyone can purchase a firearm. So many
gun retailers are becoming incredibly lax about who they sell their gun merchandise too. This is also
why it s imperative that proper safety measures are adhered to for these gun clubs, and that you
purchase from a trusted retailer. Moreover, it s also important for other businesses and gun retailers to
be in support of safe gun use, and encourage their customers to invest in weapon s training classes.

How Does Pink Floyd Represent Money
Pink Floyd s song Money explains the deeper and darker side of money and how it can be used for
temptations, lust and, greed. The first line of the song says Money get away, I perceive this as a way of
saying money was doing evil things to David Gilmour (or the song writer) and needed to be pushed
away from money. Obviously Pink Floyd was not pushed to far away from money because this album
sold 34 million copies, but that s beside the point. Regardless song makes you believe everyone is
greedy deep down because of money, everyone (including myself), wants a nice job, a nice car and,
some nice clothes on their back. Coupled with many habits, substance abuse and many other things,
money can uniquely be just as addictive, when people get

The Evolution And Importance Of Sound
The Evolution and Importance of Sound in Media Sound has accompanied performances and visual
entertainment all throughout history, and more recently, with interactive media in video games. Sound
is an integral part of the user experience and helps solidify immersion and realism. With the rapid
increase of visual fidelity in film/television, and the rapid growth of graphical power in video games
and animation, sound plays a more important role than ever. In these visual and interactive medias, the
image you see is considered the most important factor. However, both factors of audio and image must
form a seamless bond to provide a well synced, uninterrupted experience. Sound quality is often
overlooked in both production and reception and should be held in the same regard as
cinematography, interactive gameplay, and other creative content. Music has always been, until now,
experienced live. (Katz 11) The time before recorded sound is almost impossible to imagine. The
world is at a time in which imagined and virtual worlds are part of everyone s daily lives. Over the last
century, and beyond, there has been an exponential rise in technological advances that are causing an
increased simplicity of creating and distributing creative and technical multimedia works. To get to
this point, basic technologies and inventions from the world s greatest and creative minds had to
evolve and adapt to meet the needs of consumers and entertainment seekers. One of the first of

Glacier Ice Research Paper
Glaciers and Desserts Exercise
The difference between an ice sheet and a glacier; an ice sheet or continental glaciers is a chunk of
glacier ice that is the largest and the thickest type of glacier that can be almost unbelievable. They are
massive and can cover large islands and the land surrounding it as it can be greater than 50,000
kilometers wide. If melted, they contain enough water to raise sea level about 66m (216 ft.). Glaciers
are smaller and move on average, a little slower but have remarkable ability to carry a huge volume of
water in a stream. A glacier ice forms, where the depth of the snow increases, as the snow
accumulation exceeds, a deep snowpack forms as it is compressed into ice under great pressure it then
begins to flow down the mountain. When the glacier gets to a point where the melting begins the rate
of accumulation dwindles and stops.

water can be held and that side of the mountain gets rain. The cooler the air that crosses over
mountains is dry, so deserts form on the other side of the mountain range.
3). Rain shadow effect is when moist air rises against high elevations of land and drops water along
the way. This creates a region on the far side of the mountain range that is relatively deficient in
precipitation to the point of forming a rain shadow desert.
4). Cold ocean currents is because cold water evaporates at a much slower rate than warm water by
forming fewer clouds with much less precipitation.
5). A combination of these four factors are often combined, created, and recorded to form deserts that

Too much money on something so pointless.
Pointless? Yes pointless. Do you remember why we originally went to war with Iraq? Bush told us
they had weapons of mass destruction. Do they? No. Why are we still there? I don t know... do you?
After searching Iraq for weapons and coming up empty handed George Bush decided he did not like
Sadam Hussein and the world would be much safer with out him so he attacks. He did not even have
the support of the European Union. Opposing countries included France, Germany, Russia, Greece,
Belgium and Belarus. He is now trying to make Iraq a democracy, like the American government,
which is not a bad idea at all. There is just way too much opposition from Iraq, they obviously do not
want it, let them have there dictatorship, it is not our problem. This is a useless war now. We do have
to give credit to the many countries that helped us by sending in there own troops to Iraq. Mainly
England, Italy and Poland who sent a combined total of almost 15,000 troops to the 130,000 America
sent. Unfortunately there are casualties.
Casualties include over 1000 American deaths and 7722 wounded American s in Iraq. What about the
Iraqi people? Are they cooperating? Nope, so far around 15,000 have been killed 30% of the deaths
were civilians. This is not right for Bush to do. He should not be in Iraq killing that many people

Types Of Bull Mask From The Guinea Coast
The Bidyogo are a people group of approximately 15,000 from the Bissagos islands just southwest of
the Guinea Coast. The Bidyogo people are known for their excellent craftsmanship and elaborate
ceremonies. These ceremonies can be held for many different events, one of these being initiations.
During the initiation ceremonies, many masks, headdresses and costumes are worn to help depict the
process of immature boys and girls reaching the overall goal of maturity. One of the objects that is
used during initiation is a mask that represents the bull. Depending the island and the age grade that a
performer is a part of, different types of bull masks are used. Careful research of these different kinds
of bull masks with their precise construction and how these particular masks are used will aid in the
understanding of the importance of the bull mask to the Bidyogo people.
Figure 1 is the first type of bull mask, Vaca Bruto or wild cattle in creole. This type of bull mask is
found on the islands of Uno and Formosa. The Vaca Bruto is carved from wood, and has life like
features carved into the face. It also has eyes that are made glass, real horns, ears made of leather, and
a rope through the nose. In addition to the Vaca Bruto mask, performers wear costumes. These
costumes are made of belts, arm guards, and back adornments . The mask and costume are animated
by the performer in a number of ways. The first way is to make the mask act life like by bowing and

Difference Between Inductive And Guided Discovery
Introduction In this provided chapter, the teaching method is more likely to be the inductive approach
to language teaching or learning and deductive approach, or guided discovery. Deductive vs. inductive
grammar teaching There are differences between inductive approach and deductive approach. Gollin
(1998) stated that the inductive approach applied students to work out what the rules are from
examples and find out what the meanings are throughout the given examples or practices whilst the
deductive approach happened when teacher gives the explicit rules first. To be more specific, the
former refers to working from the general to more specific whereas the latter moving from specific
observations to broader generalizations. The concept of discovery techniques in Harmar (1987) is a
keeping of what inductive approach which students start with several examples and will be soon asked
to generate the rules through their experiences and examples. Upon Harmar s idea, Scrivener (2011)
prompt the concept of guided discovery which is activities that allow learners to generate their own
discoveries and explanations (Scrivener, 2005). Broadly speaking, it is a consciousness raising in

Benefits Of Insurance And Self Insured Employers
When it comes to explaining fully insured versus self insured employers it is important that we have
an accurate understanding of the definitions of and differences between the two. According to benefits
communication expert Jennifer Benz of Benz Communications in
San Francisco
If an employer sponsored plan is fully insured, the insurance company is ultimately responsible for the
health care costs and the employer pays premiums. If an employer sponsored plan is self insured, the
employer is ultimately responsible for the health care costs, and pays for all of those costs plus
administration fees.
There are different risks involved with both types of plans. Typically, smaller companies with fewer
employees opt for fully insured plans and larger companies with 5000 or more employees opt to be
self insured. According to the Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI) in 2008, 88 percent of
workers in firms with 3 199 employees were in fully insured plans and 89 percent of workers
employed in firms with 5000 or more employees were in self insured plans. (MacDonald, 2009) The
EBRI Fast Facts paper goes on to say overall for that same year 45 percent of workers in the health
insurance market share were covered by fully insured plans versus 55 percent for self insured plans.

Essay on James Joyce s Dubliners
Dubliners
James Joyce wrote the book Dubliners; Joyce expresses many different types of emotions throughout
the book. The emotions portray individuals in society, and light and dark. The emotions of individuals
are examined throughout the stories by other members in society. The stories that express the ideas
are: The Encounter, Eveline , and The Dead. The symbolism of individuals in society expresses many
different situations that are happening in the characters lives. The symbolism of light goes along with
the idea of feeling happy and enjoying life. The theme of dark shows the individuals fighting, and
having a negative outlook on life.

her life. She feels that she is confused with leaving or staying. She remembered the last night of her
mother s illness; she was again in the close dark room at the other side of the hall and outside she
heard a melancholy air of Italy (33). The feeling of being portrayed of being lost between her past and
her future. She wants more, but doesn t want to go against her mothers wish. The story of Eveline
gives different perspectives of the society. The society plays a major factor in the roles of the
characters with the decisions they make. She feels parted from her family and the society puts a toll on
her feelings. In her home anyway she had shelter and food; she had those who she had known all her
life about her (30). The life she used to have is different than the life she wants to take with Frank.
Frank feels pressured to make the right decisions to make him look good in the society. Eveline
expresses how much the society has an impact on the individuals and how they interact with each
other.
The confusion of the Dead shows many different images of the themes of light and dark. The images

Time Management Strengths And Weaknesses
Makena Kane College Recommendation Brag Sheet
Academic Strengths
Time Management: I am a film producer, and the most important quality is being a good time
manager. On sets, the producer is the one who keeps everyone on task and to schedule. Having good
time oriented brain has led me to be more proactive in my studies and outside activities. Actually,
having anxiety is one of the helpful factors in making me keep on top of deadlines. By being so on top
of time, I have never turned in homework late due to how my anxiety does prevent me from
procrastinating.
Adaptive: Being at an art school, and the fact that I have moved about 8 times in my life, I have
learned to be very adaptive. No matter the situation, location, or people I am with, I will be able to
work and figure out the problem. This has helped in times like my 64 Film Festival, where we have to
film a 7 minute film over a weekend. I have to adapt to where we film and what the script is like to
make schedules, and problems happen at a moment s notice. Without being able to adapt, I would not
have be capable of producing now 3 (successful, might I add) films in this festival.
Critical Thinking: One of my best academic strengths I believe is how much I am a critical thinker.
When working on group projects especially, I am usually the one who plans the structure of what is
happening and the best way to achieve the ultimate goal. I have a very analytical mindset, where I
work best with organized to do lists, making it

Taking a Look at Nucleophilic Reactions
Nucleophilic reactions occur when there is an electron pair donor and an electron pair acceptor (2).
There are two types of ways that nucleophilic reactions occur. There is the SN1 reaction and the SN2
reaction. An SN1 is a two step reaction that occurs when a molecule first forms a carbocation. Once
the carbocation is formed, the nucleophile comes in and attaches to the molecule (2). Below is a
general reaction scheme of an SN1 reaction:
Below is the mechanistic scheme of SN1:
In an SN2 reaction, it is a one step reaction and occurs when a nucleophile attacks a molecule and
forces the leaving of a leaving group. Below is the mechanistic scheme of SN2: Reaction kinetics is
the study of the rates of chemical reactions. From these chemical mechanisms, one derives the rate
laws which will show how fast or slow a reaction is occuring and figure out if a first order or a second
order reaction is occuring (1). The first order reaction is an SN1 reaction. A first order reaction has a
rate proportional to the concentration of one reaction. A first order reaction formula will be :
Rate =k[A] or rate=k[B] A second order reaction is an SN2 reaction. A second order reaction has a rate
proportional to the concentration of both reactants. The formula is as follows:
Rate=k[A][B]
SN1 reactions proceed through a carbocation, the product is a racemic mixture of the substitution
product which is a 50/50 racemic mixture. SN2 reactions do not form carbocation, but require the

THE UNAVOIDABLE QUESTION
Wherever we are and in whatever time we happen to live, we cannot avoid asking the basic questions
of who we are, where we came from, what we are doing here, and where we are going. In everyone s
life, especially when one is young, these basic questions arise in the mind, often with force, and
demand answers from us. Many simply push them aside or remain satisfied with established answers
provided by others in their family or community. In traditional societies such answers always came
from the teachings of religion, and to a great extent they still do for the majority of people in many
parts of the world. But there have always been and still are today the few who take the question who

Statement Of Sop For Computer Engineering
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Dreams, dreams are what we live for, what we believe in, and what we
want to achieve. We live because we dream. I had my childhood ambition of doing something great,
something different for myself. I ve always had this little dream of doing something big. At present we
are in a technological and computing revolution that will severely change our lives and eventually
readdress what it means to be a human. I am very galvanized at the prospect of devoting my career to
such a dynamic, fast advancing field. From the time I was young, I loved dabbling with computers and
experimenting with various applications. My lifetime has essentially coincided with the rise of modern
computing industry, I can feel that there are still tremendous developments to come in this field. So I
choose Computer Science as my university major, and now, as I am in the end of my undergraduate

No Pain Analysis
A person that doesn t feel pain may sound like something you would read in the comics, but in real life
there are in fact some people who don t feel pain. There are two hereditary reasons for this condition.
First are neuropathies, which is the pain detecting nervous system that doesn t fully develop. The other
is congenital analgesia that starts at birth where the pain detecting nervous system grows however
does not function (The Conversation par. 8). Although many people would love the idea of being able
to feel no pain, there are some rather unpleasant side affects. A person wouldn t be able to know if he
or she is injured, have no sense of smell, and a person would not fully understand what s dangerous.
People with this condition receive injury without knowing it. They can feel the difference between
what s sharp, dull, hot and chilly. However they can t, for instance, tell that a hot drink is hurting their
tongue (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain pg. 1). A boy named Isaac is one of these few people. He feels
something but the pain must be many times greater to compare to how normal people would be, said
Brown. Brown explained that Isaac couldn t tell that his ankle was broken. Isaac thought that his lower
leg hurt (Mohney par. 17). If a person doesn t know that he or she is hurt, they may not get the medical

What Is My Journey To Music Essay
Picking up a new instrument or musical skill may not be the first thing that appeals to you as a great
activity for retirement. It is the sort of activity that, at first glance, may seem too challenging to start at
this stage of life.
After all, those of us who have put in many years in the workforce are probably used to being the
expert in the room. Becoming a student again picking up something new that we are not already good
at may seem like a recipe for frustration and failure. Because we are not necessarily guaranteed to be
surrounded by other people our age who are also just learning, the prospect of embarking on such a
musical journey may seem daunting. Apart from the joy to be derived from the music itself, a number

California Is Notorious For Its Wildfires
California is notorious for its wildfires. In the last two decades San Diego County has faced some of
the most destructive firestorms in state history (Brainard, 2007). Ron Roberts, chairman of the San
Diego County Board of Supervisors, describes the county s disposition as, We have a very dangerous,
unpredictable situation. We have some of the highest temperatures, some of the driest landscape
conditions, and some of the most powerful winds all ingredients for a perfect firestorm (Pesce, 2007).
In 2003, San Diego County was overwhelmed by firestorms, including the Cedar Fire, and at that time
it was the worst in state history. However, in 2007 San Diego was once again devastated by firestorms,
but this time more mighty than the preceding (Ekard, Tuck, Jr., Steffen, 2003). San Diego has had its
fair share of practice at managing firestorm response actions. The 2003 firestorms proved that there
were numerous inefficiencies within the county s emergency response plan, while the 2007 firestorms
emergency response revealed the lessons learned from 2003 and improvements implemented were
effective. The threat of future firestorms in San Diego County are inevitable due to the continuing
drought, Santa Anna winds, climate changes, and human behavior (Pesce, 2007). Having a well
constructed Incident Command System (ICS) and the trained personnel to execute its model is the
most effective measure to mitigate the degree of life lost and property damage in a disaster incident. A

Django Unchained there is a mirror shot of Django when he kills the three wanted brothers. These

Base on the Confession of Faith in The Book of Discipline, in article II We believe in Jesus Christ,
truly God and truly man, in whom the divine and human natures are perfectly and inseparably united.
He is the eternal Word made flesh, the only begotten Son of the Father, born of the Virgin Mary by the
power of the Holy Spirit. As ministering servant he lived, suffered and died on the cross. He was
buried, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven to be with the Father, from whence he shall

Methodist doctrine states that Jesus was the Son of God, the child of the Virgin Mary and the Holy

heaven. The Evangelical Methodists believe that if one has sinned but confessed and repented their sin
will be forgiven. Forgiveness is the most critical part of modern Christians teaching, they also believe
that with grace from God will allow them to get to heaven, not by electing process but by observing
good deeds. Evangelical Methodist are very strict of their religious practice, if a person ever

Primordial and Modernist Schooling
Primordial school Primordial school and modernist school are two very important main streams in
identity study. Especially, in the national identity study, both of them have involved the study of
nationalism and have a very unlike view of it. And they are often highly debated of the origins of
nations and their identity. The root of primordial school is originally based on the German
romanticism and it mainly argues how those fixed factors influence in identity shape process. Those
factors are constantly stable throughout the history and hardly changed. The factors have been passed
on to generations and constructing the identity of people who lives in nowadays. For example,
language is one of these elements. Language is unique and distinct from other ones. People who speak
this language will have their own identity and formed a special group which makes them different
from other language speaking groups. And in primordial school idea, same language speaking group
will result in similar thought. Because of people learn language from the community where they live
and each community will has its thought or behavior. These will transmit to people who learn that
language. Therefore, for primordial school language is one of the key elements in identity shaping.
Another pivotal and principle factor for shaping identity is the kinship. Primordial school argues that
people joining into groups by their blood or genetic relationship with each other. Family members will

Every leader had to start somewhere; they all had to have a reason to become a great leader. They have

People who are courageous are able to achieve their goals, to stand up and to have their say in what is
right and what is wrong. They might ve made mistakes in life, but if they are willing to reach it, they
will get up and try again, becoming stronger than ever at trying to pursue their goals.
It took courage and bravery to do something that Harriet Tubman did; to be capable of doing
something so extraordinary and something so near impossible. Harriet Tubman had achieved many
things, and had made a huge difference in the lives of others; along with the lives of people today too.
She is a symbol of great courage to every African American. Harriet Tubman was born a slave in
Maryland, but became an admired person; she is well known for being a strong leader, who took great
risks to make the lives of people who were discriminated against better. She faced many challenges
through her life; enduring many injuries, and was recognized for being a person who gave freedom to
her people. Harriet Tubman became a free slave who was determined to come back and to free the

Interviews on Human Development Through Three Generations
The research project given in psychology class was to pick a topic and interview three generations on
the subject of my choice. In this paper I will talk about the following; each person I interviewed, their
responses to the questions, the difficulties I faced, the stages of development each generation is
experiencing, relating each generation to a theory, compare the similarities and differences each
generation is experiencing in their stage of development, and what I learned from this experience. The
topic I explored for each generation was music. Music can be a emotional experience, bring out
feeling that we may be experiencing at that time, bring people together, and memories of the past. The
three generations I picked to interview was an adolescence, early adulthood, and middle adulthood.
The interview process started with the youngest age group and ended with the eldest age of the group.
I had a series of interview questions and based on the age groups all the questions were the same for
each generation. The following research questions were asked to all three generations:
1. What kind of music did you listen to when you were younger and has your music style changed
over the years?
2. How did you buy your music and where?
3. What kind of device did you listen to your music on?
4. Does your mood determine the kind of music you listen too? Give me an example.
5. Did your parents approve of the kind of music you listened too? Why or why not?

Whirlpool Europe: Case 2
Whirlpool Europe s implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is a positive
business investment. One of the biggest challenges that Whirlpool Europe faces is a disconnect in the
information systems. This disconnect has led to a decrease in product availability, loss in sales, and an
unreasonably high inventory. A new system will allow Whirlpool Europe to improve operating
effectiveness and efficiency. The cost of implementation of the ERP is quite substantial. However, the
benefits do outweigh the costs when net present value is calculated and compared. Once the ERP

What Is The Meaning Of Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding
Containing gruesome, meaningful, and thought provoking concepts, Lord of the Flies by William
Golding received much criticism for its ending. The way Golding chose to close this story was
categorized as a dues ex machina, an ending that does not conclude with satisfaction, and in this case
it was a savior figure resolving the deadly situation the characters (a group of stranded boys) were
involved in. Though many have agreed Golding s ending was adventitious, deeper investigation of the
novel has revealed that the larger concluding message was really centralized on the idea of power in a
society. Lord of the Flies revealed that power should reside in the people, otherwise the inequality
between society and the ruler will cause uttermost destruction ... Show more content on

The general idea of Rousseau s philosophy can be also be associated with the thematic message of
power in Lord of the Flies. By summarizing Rousseau s philosophy, readers will instantly learn that he
believes the complete consensus (should be) based on dictatorship of the General Will and that that is
the ideal government. He believes that if a monarchy is established it will become difficult for the
society to combat inequality. To prove this, he also claims the social contract is between the people,
not the government. Each person gives up all rights to the General Will which then incorporates every
individual through the legislature. In other words, Rousseau s philosophy states that complete
consensus should be put into the people, and different governments will cause inequality. He supports
this statement by claiming it will incorporate every individual through the legislature. Rousseau s
philosophy and Golding both delivered ideas that revealed the importance in keeping the authority in
the people itself. In fact, this seems more than similar to the concluding universal message Golding
ended Lord of the Flies with. His philosophy reflected ideas that were applied in Golding s argument.
It relates to Lord of the Flies because it

Analysis Of Beauty When The Dancer Is The Self
An unknown author from thethingswesay.com once said, Beauty is the opposite of perfection it s
about confidence, charisma and character. For many people, women especially, this concept seems
unrealistic. In the autobiography Beauty: When the dancer is the self by Alice Walker, she identifies
with this perception of life and applies it to the societal views of beauty. Through her autobiography,
she sets the stage by explaining her childhood, beginning with her sassy and independent nature as a
two and a half year old. Proceeding several years later, she describes her pain from being shot in the
eye by her brother and the cover up that altered their relationship. Next came the feelings of diffidence
and timidity from the accident, that led to her physical and mental decline. Finally, the acceptance of
past events, followed by, the ability to see the world in her eye (Walker 40) enables Walker to value
herself and spread the message of self acceptance. Using the pain felt from that shot, both mental and
physical, she is able to define a new chapter in her life and become an award winning novelist. By
writing to a broad audience, she is able to make a greater impact as she delves into the process of
taking pain and despair and transforming it into self celebration. In Walker s essay, she addresses this
reoccurring theme by employing structural preferences, logical appeals and the use of imagery to
cultivate a powerful message of personal growth. In Walker s essay, she

Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man and Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe
The theme of man s relationship to God and the universe presented in Epistle 1 of Alexander Pope s
An Essay on Man complements Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe. Crusoe is an inconsistent character
who turns to God whenever he is in need, yet fails to maintain respect for nature and for his fellow
man. In the first year of Robinson Crusoe s solitary life on the island, he falls ill and has a terrifying
dream that alters his awareness of his place in the universe and God s control of it. This experience
leads him to contemplate his past ingratitude and to embark on a life of piety, reading the Bible daily,
though without a drastic or permanent change in his character. ... Show more content on

In the climax of his fearful dream, Crusoe hears a voice threaten him, Seeing all these things have not
brought thee to Repentance, now thou shalt die, and he awakens with a tremendous Impression on his
mind (65). This is a point of change for the sailor, and he meditates on his life and the
unacknowledged influence of God. Pope s essay speaks to this awareness, for his focus is on the
presence of God in nature and humanity. In Section 8 he exclaims, Vast Chain of Being! which from
God began, / Natures ethereal, human, Angel, Man, / Beast, Bird, Fish, Insect! (237 39). According to
Pope, the existence of all things emanates from a God who created all things to be united. This
message also speaks to Crusoe, when he first becomes aware of the link between God and himself. As
soon as Crusoe becomes open to God, he begins thinking, Such as we are all made by some secret
Power, who form d the Earth and Sea, the Air and Sky; and who is that? . . . It is God (68). Robinson
Crusoe comes to see God as the creator that Pope has presented him and in this way, Pope s An Essay
on Man articulates Crusoe s development as a person.
Robinson Crusoe s description of his meals demonstrates man s dependence on nature for survival,
proving Pope s belief that each System is Alike essential to th amazing Whole (247 48). In his June 28

one would think of it being financial attack such as stolen credit card information. What if cyber
criminals took control of the power grid? The threat is real however and within 2011 to 2014 there
were 362 known targeted cyber attacks against the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This cost the economy from 6.5 10.8 billion of dollars with over a hundred fatalities in the hospitals
due to lack of power.[5]
With technology corporations knowing the risks involved with cyber attacks, research and innovation
have taken steps to prevent this apocalyptic scenario from happening again. The Department of
Energy has created localized grids that are normally connected to our traditional grid, but has the
option to be disconnected to support reliability and resiliency.[6] Microgrids use advanced smart grid
technologies and integrate distributed energy resources.[4] At time, they can be used when there is a
severe outage to offer local regions with reliable power even when a physical or cyber threat occurs.
[4]
Since we already have the technology to build a grid that is more resilient and less of a target for
adversaries, all Americans need to push for this to remain a priority and find ways to support
legislation for a rebuilding of the infrastructure system. With companies such as Intel who are in the
energy and security sectors but also researching artificial intelligence and self automated vehicles and
robots, there is a possibility that a rebuilding of the infrastructure system is plausible. With individuals
boarding millions of dollars into creating smart cities who knows what opportunities can occur. As of

Holling s The Wednesday Wars
During the novel The Wednesday Wars, Holling changed a lot during his 7th grade year. He had many
great influences to make him do so. I have three main influences I think made him do so. Mrs. Baker,
Shakespeare, and his sister Heather. My first influence is Mrs. Baker, she is his favorite teacher,
although he didn t always like her. She taught him to like Shakespeare, and take in everything about
his life and how he is special. She is always there for him and has nothing bad to say to him. She was
like a mother to him. Mrs. Baker teaches him how to run properly, like an olympic runner used to run
(168). Another major influence was Shakespeare, Holling s life followed the plays of Shakespeare
overall. Everything that happened in Shakespeare,

Summary Of The Crazy Cat Lady Might Be Crazy
The crazy cat lady might be crazy, but she sure does have some fuzzy socks. Okay, the socks come
later in the story. Let s start from the beginning. Since childhood, Alex had an intense love for her
numerous cats. As she was incredibly awkward, she was much more comfortable around cats than she
was people and often secluded herself in the fortress that was her room. However, as of right now her
room seemed more like a prison than a home. All she really wanted to do at that moment was to get
some fresh air. Clad in only her cat pajamas and armed with nothing but a cellphone and her keys, she
took a step into the treacherous outdoors and braved nature for the first time in what seemed like
months. However, as soon as she opened up the door her Turkish Angora, Missy, bolted into her
neighbor s yard. Alex, being the epitome of mature adults, started shouting at the bushes where Missy
had disappeared.
BETRAYAL! I FEED YOU AND THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY ME? YOU
She s alive! A thick Irish accent drifted over from the porch next door. Caught acting like a total idiot,
Alex was left temporarily speechless. Attempting to regain her dignity, she spoke up. Uhh... Well, you
uh, you see... Wait, are you Irish?
I migrated over here from Ireland a few months ago.
Oh, that s...swag. She responded while violently flailing her hands around in a horrible attempt to act
cool.
So, what did my shrubs do to offend you? He asked, completely unfazed by her awkwardness.
Alex tried to make

Seven Years War Consequences
The Seven Years war was a worldwide conflict fought from 1754 1763 between Great Britain and
their Indian allies against France and their Indian allies. During the early 1750s, the French expanded
into the Ohio River valley which brought along conflict with Britain and their colonies. The First
battle began in 1754 when George Washington launched a surprise attack on the French. It ended nine
years later with the Treaty of Paris. The British won the war. The victory did come with consequences
as they were put in debt and to repay the debt they placed taxes on the colonies. This caused the
colonists to become angered and they ultimately protested after many isolated events the Americans
started a revolution in 1765; two years after end of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their actions to ease the debt set off a chain reaction and sparked the American Revolution. They
ended the policy of Salutary Neglect because they needed money and this angered the colonists. They
passed the Currency Act which meant that the colonists could not make their own currency. Then
passed the Stamp act that taxed several things including paper, licenses, newspapers, etc. This angered
the colonists because they couldn t ignore it and had to pay more and all of this was because of the
debt from the Seven Years War. Then the colonists started to revolt when they made the Stamp Act
Congress to boycott British goods. In response, Britain passed the Declaratory Act that allowed them
to tax whatever they wanted. The colonists were also angered about how they were treated by the
British. During the war, the colonists saw themselves as equals to the British soldiers but Great Britain
ultimately disagreed. The colonists felt like they were lower than the British and this made them
furious when they also fought with their life on the line. After the war it was seen as the spark that set
off the

  • 2. Achievements And Goals Of Captain William Kidd William Kidd William Kidd ran away from home when he was 7. After fending for himself 20 years later he became a high ranking privateer. How did he become so successful with such a rough childhood? Some say he had to steal food from vendors. All we know is he was a miracle both when sailing and when fending for himself at a very young age. My biography is about the Beginning, Ending, Achievements, and Goals of Captain William Kidd. Captain William Kidd was born in Greenock, Scotland during 1654(?). He had a light red hair and considerably short. When he turned 7 he ran from home because of his father s death. After 20 years in New York, Lord Bellemont recruited Kidd as a young privateer. When he first started sailing he was very weary and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Melinda s Actions Speak Without Words It is defiantly possible to speak without words; there are so many ways to convey a message without verbally saying what you mean. I feel that it s possible to speak without words because in most cases, a person s actions speak louder than their words. This is demonstrated in the novel when Melinda refuses to give her speech in class. This shows more about what Melinda has learned about the freedoms in this country and what the suffragettes fought for than any speech she could have given verbally. Melinda s actions prove that she is a strong willed person, even if she may seem meek and mild. I feel that sometimes it is more difficult not to say anything at all than it is to speak a thousand words Melinda s actions play an important role in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Puppet Making Journey In the following essay I will be discussing and explaining the various aspects of my puppet making journey. This includes the style I have chosen to use, as well as what and who influenced me and how I plan on using this puppet. I decided to go for the shadow puppetry method. What exactly is shadow puppetry (also known as shadow play)? In order for something to be considered as shadow play you only need about three things, namely a source of light, a form (can be a figure or your hand etc.) and a wall/screen/surface to project onto. If you are like me and try to make a dog or an ostrich with your hands every chance you get then you can say you have had experience in shadow puppetry. I decided to use shadow puppetry because I remember watching a shadow puppet show when I was younger (about six or seven years old) and it was incredibly captivating yet so simple. The fact that the images were just silhouettes gave my colourful imagination the chance to paint them any way I wanted to. I cannot remember the exact show I watched but I do remember the feeling it left me with. I hope I can achieve the same wonder with my puppets. A court poet during the reign ... • 7. Causes Of The Dust Bowl The Dust Bowl began in the 1930s and lasted a decade. It was sometimes referred to as the Dirty Thirties , which was the name given to the worst natural and manmade disaster in U.S. history. The lives of thousands, both young and old, were lost due to the damaging effects of the dust. The Dust Bowl started in the Midwest and affected Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and part of Nebraska. However, the physical damage was felt throughout the nation, when the winds took the dust beyond these states. What natural and manmade causes created this human tragedy? How did it contribute to the decline of the economy and the era known as the Great Depression? How did the people of the United States persevere through this tragedy, and will we have to go through another devastating era like this again? The first known cause that contributed to the start of the Dust Bowl were farmers who began to try new farming techniques in order to increase profit and minimalize spending. The reasoning behind this was that World War I was going on. This made the demand for wheat sky rocket, and farmers were being paid record prices for their crops. Our nation was making money by feeding other nations, and therefore it was logical to turn every foot of land into farming land. ( United States History. 1) In an effort to help boost the economy, the government provided cheap federal farm policies which allowed many people to take on the job of farming. In these visual and interactive medias, the image you see is considered the most important factor. However, both factors of audio and image must form a seamless bond to provide a well synced, uninterrupted experience. Sound quality is often overlooked in both production and reception and should be held in the same regard as cinematography, interactive gameplay, and other creative content. Music has always been, until now, experienced live. (Katz 11) The time before recorded sound is almost impossible to imagine. Difference Between Inductive And Guided Discovery Introduction In this provided chapter, the teaching method is more likely to be the inductive approach to language teaching or learning and deductive approach, or guided discovery. Deductive vs. inductive grammar teaching There are differences between inductive approach and deductive approach. Gollin (1998) stated that the inductive approach applied students to work out what the rules are from examples and find out what the meanings are throughout the given examples or practices whilst the deductive approach happened when teacher gives the explicit rules first. To be more specific, the former refers to working from the general to more specific whereas the latter moving from specific observations to broader generalizations. The concept of discovery techniques in Harmar (1987) is a keeping of what inductive approach which students start with several examples and will be soon asked to generate the rules through their experiences and examples. Upon Harmar s idea, Scrivener (2011) prompt the concept of guided discovery which is activities that allow learners to generate their own discoveries and explanations (Scrivener, 2005). If an employer sponsored plan is self insured, the employer is ultimately responsible for the health care costs, and pays for all of those costs plus administration fees. There are two types of ways that nucleophilic reactions occur. There is the SN1 reaction and the SN2 reaction. An SN1 is a two step reaction that occurs when a molecule first forms a carbocation. Once the carbocation is formed, the nucleophile comes in and attaches to the molecule (2). Below is a general reaction scheme of an SN1 reaction: Below is the mechanistic scheme of SN1: In an SN2 reaction, it is a one step reaction and occurs when a nucleophile attacks a molecule and forces the leaving of a leaving group. Below is the mechanistic scheme of SN2: Reaction kinetics is the study of the rates of chemical reactions. From these chemical mechanisms, one derives the rate laws which will show how fast or slow a reaction is occuring and figure out if a first order or a second order reaction is occuring (1). The first order reaction is an SN1 reaction. A first order reaction has a rate proportional to the concentration of one reaction. A first order reaction formula will be : Rate =k[A] or rate=k[B] A second order reaction is an SN2 reaction. A second order reaction has a rate proportional to the concentration of both reactants. The 2003 firestorms proved that there were numerous inefficiencies within the county s emergency response plan, while the 2007 firestorms emergency response revealed the lessons learned from 2003 and improvements implemented were effective. The threat of future firestorms in San Diego County are inevitable due to the continuing drought, Santa Anna winds, climate changes, and human behavior (Pesce, 2007). And they are often highly debated of the origins of nations and their identity. The root of primordial school is originally based on the German romanticism and it mainly argues how those fixed factors influence in identity shape process. Those factors are constantly stable throughout the history and hardly changed. The factors have been passed on to generations and constructing the identity of people who lives in nowadays. For example, language is one of these elements. Language is unique and distinct from other ones. People who speak this language will have their own identity and formed a special group which makes them different from other language speaking groups. And in primordial school idea, same language speaking group will result in similar thought. Because of people learn language from the community where they live and each community will has its thought or behavior. These will transmit to people who learn that language. Therefore, for primordial school language is one of the key elements in identity shaping. Another pivotal and principle factor for shaping identity is the kinship. The topic I explored for each generation was music. Music can be a emotional experience, bring out feeling that we may be experiencing at that time, bring people together, and memories of the past. The three generations I picked to interview was an adolescence, early adulthood, and middle adulthood. The interview process started with the youngest age group and ended with the eldest age of the group. I had a series of interview questions and based on the age groups all the questions were the same for each generation. The following research questions were asked to all three generations: 1. What Is The Meaning Of Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding Containing gruesome, meaningful, and thought provoking concepts, Lord of the Flies by William Golding received much criticism for its ending. The way Golding chose to close this story was categorized as a dues ex machina, an ending that does not conclude with satisfaction, and in this case it was a savior figure resolving the deadly situation the characters (a group of stranded boys) were involved in. Though many have agreed Golding s ending was adventitious, deeper investigation of the novel has revealed that the larger concluding message was really centralized on the idea of power in a society. The general idea of Rousseau s philosophy can be also be associated with the thematic message of power in Lord of the Flies. By summarizing Rousseau s philosophy, readers will instantly learn that he believes the complete consensus (should be) based on dictatorship of the General Will and that that is the ideal government. He believes that if a monarchy is established it will become difficult for the society to combat inequality. To prove this, he also claims the social contract is between the people, not the government. Each person gives up all rights to the General Will which then incorporates every individual through the legislature. In other words, Rousseau s philosophy states that complete consensus should be put into the people, and different governments will cause inequality. He supports this statement by claiming it will incorporate every individual through the legislature. Rousseau s philosophy and Golding both delivered ideas that revealed the importance in keeping the authority in the people itself. In fact, this seems more than similar to the concluding universal message Golding ended Lord of the Flies with. His philosophy reflected ideas that were applied in Golding s argument. For many people, women especially, this concept seems unrealistic. In the autobiography Beauty: When the dancer is the self by Alice Walker, she identifies with this perception of life and applies it to the societal views of beauty. Through her autobiography, she sets the stage by explaining her childhood, beginning with her sassy and independent nature as a two and a half year old. Proceeding several years later, she describes her pain from being shot in the eye by her brother and the cover up that altered their relationship. Next came the feelings of diffidence and timidity from the accident, that led to her physical and mental decline. Finally, the acceptance of past events, followed by, the ability to see the world in her eye (Walker 40) enables Walker to value herself and spread the message of self acceptance. Using the pain felt from that shot, both mental and physical, she is able to define a new chapter in her life and become an award winning novelist. By writing to a broad audience, she is able to make a greater impact as she delves into the process of taking pain and despair and transforming it into self celebration. Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man and Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe The theme of man s relationship to God and the universe presented in Epistle 1 of Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man complements Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe. Crusoe is an inconsistent character who turns to God whenever he is in need, yet fails to maintain respect for nature and for his fellow man. In the first year of Robinson Crusoe s solitary life on the island, he falls ill and has a terrifying dream that alters his awareness of his place in the universe and God s control of it. This experience leads him to contemplate his past ingratitude and to embark on a life of piety, reading the Bible daily, though without a drastic or permanent change in his character. ... In the climax of his fearful dream, Crusoe hears a voice threaten him, Seeing all these things have not brought thee to Repentance, now thou shalt die, and he awakens with a tremendous Impression on his mind (65). This is a point of change for the sailor, and he meditates on his life and the unacknowledged influence of God. Pope s essay speaks to this awareness, for his focus is on the presence of God in nature and humanity. In Section 8 he exclaims, Vast Chain of Being! which from God began, / Natures ethereal, human, Angel, Man, / Beast, Bird, Fish, Insect! (237 39). According to Pope, the existence of all things emanates from a God who created all things to be united. This message also speaks to Crusoe, when he first becomes aware of the link between God and himself. As soon as Crusoe becomes open to God, he begins thinking, Such as we are all made by some secret Power, who form d the Earth and Sea, the Air and Sky; and who is that? . . . It is God (68). Robinson Crusoe comes to see God as the creator that Pope has presented him and in this way, Pope s An Essay on Man articulates Crusoe s development as a person.
