Computer-assisted language learning (CALL) uses computers to provide activities that help develop different language skills, allowing for integrated and separate practice in a motivating medium. CALL represents both a tool for language teaching and learning as well as a challenge for teachers and students in this new medium. While computers expand communicative teaching and support writing, CALL requires expensive equipment and software and cannot replace the role of teachers.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Kyndall- Mother (52 Years Old) ● Technology Advanced- we now have everything at our fingertips ● People have less children- can’t afford them ● Parents are more involved- “Helicopter Parents” ● There used to be a winner and loser ● Kids now get awards for participating- leads to entitlement ● Not as many smokers now

Barbara- Mother (40 years old) ● Adolescent pregnancies/ necessarily leaving the studies aside ● The people fight for their rights/ before we lived repressed ● More contact with the children/ before it was difficult to see a parents hug his children ● Drugs and alcohol/ Young people had less access to them.
- 4. Barbara-Grandmother (56 years old) ● Teen marriages/ I've been married for 40 years ● Everyone is worried about himself/ nobody sees you on the street ● More opportunities to study/ At home, we did not have the resources to send all the children to study.

Comparison Our Differences Our Similarities ● Women in Chile now have more of a role in society (not as drastic of a change in the US) ● More technology ● Parents want us to follow dreams ● Both value respect ● People need to be more empathetic ● Smaller families ● Social media ● Easier access to information
- 6. Letter for our future grandchildren Dear Grandchildren, We hope that you have followed your dreams and have accomplished everything you wanted in life. We hope that technology has not taken over your life and that you still keep in touch with what is real and what is virtual. We hope that you continue to be respectful and empathetic. Please don’t forget to honor your elders and cherish each day you have. Take nothing for granted and live your life to the fullest. Whenever you make a mistake, do not regret it. Instead, learn from your mistakes and become a better person. Continue to live your life according to your values, and you will not be dissapointed.
