This study aims to determine the effectiveness of an ethanolic extract from Coleus scutellaroides leaves in inhibiting the growth of powdery mildew, a common fungal disease, on ornamental plants. The researchers are investigating the optimal concentration and application frequency of the extract as a potential natural and sustainable alternative to chemical fungicides. If shown to control powdery mildew, the Coleus extract could provide local farmers an eco-friendly treatment to increase ornamental plant yields and quality amid the growing Philippine ornamentals industry.

An extensive survey was carried out during 2013 for the real situation in the crop to study the plant pathogenic fungus, bacteria and nematodes associated with Japanese Mint Mentha arvensis var piperascense growing fields. Soil and root samples were collected from 24 Mentha fields represents 15 different locations (villages) Akhtarpur, Tiwaripur, Shuklapur, Katia, Oripur, Ghuripur, Padariya and Dafara. Out of 120 soil samples, 16 soil samples were found infected with Fusarium oxysporum and 27 soil samples with Alternaria spp. 36 samples have the plant parasitic nematodes population. Results revealed that the maximum disease prevalence (DP) of Fusarium oxysporum was recorded at Shuklapur (27%), while the minimum disease prevalence was recorded at Ghuripur (3.4%). Alternaria spp. was more prevalent at Tiwaripur (42%) while root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) incidence was maximum at Katia (43%). The plant extracts were not so promising for inhibition of pathogenic fungi of Mentha crop.

Apple scab, caused by the fungus Venturia inaequalis (Cooke) G. Wint. is the most widespread disease in apple orchards worldwide. In order to manage apple scab and produce a marketable crop, growers across the globe have relied on 10 to 18 applications of synthetic chemicals at an annual cost of US$202 to $506 per hectare. Until recently, fungicidal control was perceived as the only economical control measure but this perception is changing because of the high costs of new molecules such as the strobilurine-based fungicides, increased fungicide resistance in populations of V. inaequalis, and increased appreciation of environmental costs and consumers negative perceptions of fungicide use. For all these reasons cited above, interest is increasing to develop alternative strategies to manage apple scab. These changes include re-designing orchards so that cultivars with differential susceptibility can be treated with fungicides based on different schedules and using post-harvest treatments, such as leaf shredding or application of biological control agents. New knowledge of the resistance mechanisms in Malus may also present new management options. Despite the increased complexity of integrated scab management, it can prove more sustainable as it involves the use of more than one method and reduces the risk of development of resistance to fungicides in the pathogen population. Ultimately, sustainability will depend on the cost effectiveness of integrated approaches as compared to total dependence on fungicides to control apple scab.

University (HSTU), Dinajpur during May-December 2017 to evaluate the toxicity of five
medicinal plant extracts (water hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes, swamp smartweed Polygonum
coccineum, ariach Cassia tora, wild capsicum Croton bonplandianum and hill glory bower
Clerodendrum viscosum) against maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais (Mots.) on stored maize.
The wild capsicum extract provided the highest average mortality (93.33 ± 3.33), following
the hill glory bower (86.67 ± 3.33) and swamp smartweed (86.67 ± 3.33) at 3% concentration.
But it was zero in control. The average numbers of lowest numbers of adult emergence
among the five weed extracts were found in wild capsicum (3.00 ± 0.39) following Swamp
smartweed (5.11 ± 0.95) at 3% concentration; whereas, in control it was (54.00 ± 1.15).
The lowest percent of seed damage were found in wild capsicum (3.00 ± 0.38%) following
Swamp smartweed (4.22 ± 0.58). But in control, it was 44.00 ± 1.15. Repellency class of
different plant extracts at different concentration level varied between I to IV. But the hill
glory bower at 3.0% showed statistically best as it showed the highest repellency rate was
66.0 ± 5.31% and the group were IV. However, the toxicity order was wild capsicum >
swamp smartweed > hill glory bower > water hyacinth >, ariach.

ABSTRACT- Populus deltoides is the exotic species of poplar introduced in India in late 50s and has been grown significantly in North– western states. It is one of the most important commercial tree planted in agrosilvicutural system adopted by farmers of the region. Meanwhile, it is prone to number of biotic and abiotic agents, which affects the plantations and thus depreciates its quality. Hence, to prevent the loss and manage the diseases, apart from fungicidal use biocontrol strategy has been adopted. In the present study fifteen isolates of Alternaria alternata has been tested against Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma viride. Both the antagonists were at par in suppressing the fungal growth and did not achieve the significant level of inhibition. T. harzianum could be shown as better biocontrol agent than the latter owing to the percent growth inhibition shown by the isolates.

Influence of fertilizers on incidence and severity of early blight and late b...Innspub Net
The potato (Solanum tuberosum) production in the Far North Region, Cameroon is confronted with, diseases and pests. To improve the production of this plant, a study was carried out in Mouvou and Gouria to evaluate the impact of fertilizers on the development of late blight and early blight diseases of this plant. The experimental design used was a completely randomized block with 4 treatments: Mycorrhizae (MYC), NPK (20-10-10) chemical fertilizers, chicken droppings (CD) and a control (T). The plant material used was a local variety of potato (Dosa). Disease incidence and severity and rainfall were evaluated. Area Under Disease Progress Curve was calculated. At 60 DAS, mean incidences recorded for fertilizers were 5.7, 3.6, 1.8 and 0.8 % respectively for control, MYC, NPK and CD. In general, early blight severity decreased from 22.1% at 45 DAS to 0.3 % at 60 DAS. The highest AUDPC value of late blight at Mouvou site was observed in NPK treatment while potato in CD treatment had the lowest. The lowest AUDPC value of early blight was observed in CD treatment at both sites. AUDSIPC value for late blight was significantly higher in NPK treatment in both sites. The highest value of AUDPSIC of early blight was recorded in MYC treatment, 45 DAS in both sites. The average rainfall was higher in the Gouria site (716.5mm) than in Mouvou site (679 mm). The CD treatment can be recommended to the farmers for the phytosanitary protection of potatoes.

A field trial was done to assess the efficacy of crude aqueous extracts of Tephrosia vogelii, Allium sativum and Solanum incanum in controlling Brevicoryne brassicae in Brassica napus production. The trial was laid in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with five treatments replicated four times. The five treatments used in the experiment were T. vogelii, A. sativum, S. incanum, dimethoate and control. Wingless adult female aphids were inoculated three weeks after transplanting of seedlings. Spraying and data collection were done weekly for four weeks. Data was collected on aphid nymph and adult counts on the third leaf from the aerial plant part of randomly selected plants from each treatment for 24 hours after the application of treatments and total plant fresh weight per each treatment. There were significant differences (p<0.05)><0.05) on the yield of rape. It was concluded that T. vogelii, S. incanum and A. sativum aqueous crude extracts have some pesticidal effects on aphid in rape production.

In the substitution of chemical insecticides with potential biopesticides, the efficiency of Lippia multiflora, Plectranthus glandulosus and Callistemon rigidus were evaluated on the improvement of cowpea (Vinia unguiculata) in Dang (Ngaoundere, Cameroon). The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized block design with 5 treatments repeated 4 times each: the negative control, the positive control (Decis), L. multiflora, P. glandulosus and C. rigidus. These different insecticides were sprayed on cowpea plants with 14 days interval starting from the 14th day after sowing. The parameters collected were the diversity of insect pests, the number of pods, and the dry weight of the grains. All of the insecticides used improved cowpea yields. Although less efficient than Decis, most biopesticides significantly (p < 0.001) improved the yield of cowpeas compared to the negative control. This improvement was 260% for C. rigidus, and 120% for P. glandulosus. These results suggest that C. rigidus, P. glandulosus and L. multiflora could be considered as potential substitutes for chemical insecticides in improving cowpea yields.

The Effect of Dipel and Spruzit Biopesticides on Metcalfa pruinosa (Say, 1830...IJEAB
Metcalfa pruinosa (Say) is one of the important harmful insect species of the coastal areas of Eastern Black Sea Region. This insect poses a danger by feeding on the juices of hundreds of plants in the region. This study was designed to create a fight strategy against M.pruinosa, which has posed an intense danger in Artvin - Kemalpaşa in recent years, and the effect of Spruzit Neu and Dipel biopesticides on the nymphs and adults of the insect was investigated, and the applicability of these biopesticides was revealed. The study was conducted in the summer season of 2016 when the nymphs and adults of the insect are abundant in the region. In in vitro conditions, the Spruzit Neu (Pyrethrum) and Dipel DF (Bacillu thuringiensis) biopesticides were sprayed at different doses (DiPel® DF BT 100gr / 100lt, Dipel® DF BT 300gr / 100lt, Dipel® DF BT 500gr / 100lt ve Spruzit® Neu) on the nymphs and adults of the insect. The adults and nymphs were checked with 2-day intervals, and the results were assessed according to the One-Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA) and the Duncan Test. It was determined that the most effective applications for the nymphs were Dipel DF 300gr/100lt and 500gr/100lt. It was also determined that the most effective applications for the adult individuals were Spruzit Neu 600ml/100lt and Dipel DF 500gr/100lt doses. The highest death rates in the nymphs were determined in Spruzit Neu 600ml/100lt dose as 72,5%; and in Dipel DF dose as 80%. These rates were determined in Pyrethrum 600 ml/100lt dose as 78%, and in Dipel DF 500 gr/100lt dose as 75%. As a conclusion, it was determined that both biopesticides are influential on the nymphs and adults of M.pruinosa. However, it was also determined that the fight will be more influential in the nymph period of the insect.
Potential of silicon fertilization in the resistance of chestnut plants toink...IJEAB
The European chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) is a specie with great economic importance in Europe that have been present for thousands of years. In Portugal, the chestnut helps to maintain a positive trade balance, by contributing to the gross national product (GDP). One of the biggest threats for the chestnut is the ink disease caused by Phytophthoracinnamomi, this disease is problematic to chestnut crop with a damaging impact. Silicon (Si) is classified as a beneficial nutrient, having the ability to make plants more resistant to attacks by pathogens. Studies on the effect of silicon on chestnut are practically non-existent, so the aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of silicon in the resistance of chestnut plants to P. cinnamomi. The plants were treated by 0 mM, 5 mM, 7.5mM and 10 mM SiK® with the analyzed mad at 0, 15 and 30 days after inoculation by P. cinnamomi. These findings showed that the Si-treated plants had higher survival rate resulted from the presence of phytoliths in root tissues, that acted as a mechanical barrier reducing the development of pathogenic structures and they arealso associated with the improvement on antioxidant activity through the increase of CAT and SOD, higher values of total phenols compounds and less oxidative damage. The presence of Si in PDA medium reduced the growth of P. cinnamomi all over the time, presenting high PI. This work shows that the Si fertilization in chestnut plants contributes to increase the resistance against P. cinnamomi infection.

The intractable increasing cost of synthetic pesticides is certainly intense in the coming production years. Looking into this viewpoint the farmers have to look for alternative actions to withstand their farming business profitability. Rhizome crude extracts can be an alternative for synthetic pesticides. This study was conducted to assess the effect of rhizome crude extracts against glutinous corn seedling maggots, corn earworm, corn borer, armyworm, and aphids; evaluate the effect of rhizome crude extracts on the growth and yield of glutinous corn, and determine the profitability of glutinous corn production using rhizome plants as a source of organic pesticide. The treatments were as follows: T0 – No pesticide applied; T1 – Potable water alone; T2 – Ginger crude extracts; T3 – Turmeric crude extracts; T4 – Galangal crude extracts; and T5 – Shampoo ginger crude extracts. Results revealed that insect-pests and their damage on glutinous corn crop were significantly lessened by the application of rhizome crude extracts regardless of sources. This contributed to the significant stover yield and harvest index performance of treated plants with rhizome crude extracts thus obtained a profitable yield compared to those plants without any pesticide applied.
Abstract— This study was conducted to identify, test the pathogenicity of strawberry root and stalk rot pathogens and evaluate the efficiency of some biocontrol agents and fungicides to control the disease. The isolation and identification of fungi associated with infected plant samples showed that Rhizoctonia solani was detected in all studied commercial strawberry lath houses at different location of Baghdad-Iraq. The frequency percentages ranged 25.5-63.5 % and 10.75 - 40 % for Rhizoctonia solani and Phymatotrichopsis omnivora respectively. Pathogenicity test revealed R. solani and P. omnivora isolates were highly pathogenic to strawberry plants. The disease severity percentages of R. solani and P. omnivora were 83.0-100% and 55.5-62.0 % respectively. The isolates HRs3 and KPh1 of R. solani and P. omnivora respectively, caused the highest disease were used during this study. The control agents Rizolex and Tachigarin fungicides, Azotobacter chroococcum and Pseudomonas fluorescens have shown high efficiency against R. solani and P. omnivora on culture media (PDA).
The treatment of biocontrol agent’s A. chroococcum and P. fluorescens and the fungicide Rizolex and Preserve Pro showed high efficiency in disease control and enhance plants growth under greenhouse conditions. Disease severities on foliar and root system in A. chroococcum , Rizolex , Preserve Pro and P. fluorescens were 6,66 and 0.00 %, 20.00 and 0.00 %,13.33 and 0.00 % and 13.33and 0.00 % respectively in plants infected with R. solani .Whereas they were 6.66 and 0.00%, 13.33 and 0.00 %,13.33 and 0.00 %,and 13.33 and 0.00 % respectively in plants infected with P. omnivora. This study is the first report of the occurrence of root and stalk rot disease caused by R. solani and P. omnivora on strawberry plants in Iraq.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

A field trial was done to assess the efficacy of crude aqueous extracts of Tephrosia vogelii, Allium sativum and Solanum incanum in controlling Brevicoryne brassicae in Brassica napus production. The trial was laid in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with five treatments replicated four times. The five treatments used in the experiment were T. vogelii, A. sativum, S. incanum, dimethoate and control. Wingless adult female aphids were inoculated three weeks after transplanting of seedlings. Spraying and data collection were done weekly for four weeks. Data was collected on aphid nymph and adult counts on the third leaf from the aerial plant part of randomly selected plants from each treatment for 24 hours after the application of treatments and total plant fresh weight per each treatment. There were significant differences (p<0.05)><0.05) on the yield of rape. It was concluded that T. vogelii, S. incanum and A. sativum aqueous crude extracts have some pesticidal effects on aphid in rape production.

These different insecticides were sprayed on cowpea plants with 14 days interval starting from the 14th day after sowing. The parameters collected were the diversity of insect pests, the number of pods, and the dry weight of the grains. All of the insecticides used improved cowpea yields. Although less efficient than Decis, most biopesticides significantly (p < 0.001) improved the yield of cowpeas compared to the negative control. This improvement was 260% for C. rigidus, and 120% for P. glandulosus. These results suggest that C. rigidus, P. glandulosus and L. multiflora could be considered as potential substitutes for chemical insecticides in improving cowpea yields.

The Effect of Dipel and Spruzit Biopesticides on Metcalfa pruinosa (Say, 1830...IJEAB
Metcalfa pruinosa (Say) is one of the important harmful insect species of the coastal areas of Eastern Black Sea Region. This insect poses a danger by feeding on the juices of hundreds of plants in the region. This study was designed to create a fight strategy against M.pruinosa, which has posed an intense danger in Artvin - Kemalpaşa in recent years, and the effect of Spruzit Neu and Dipel biopesticides on the nymphs and adults of the insect was investigated, and the applicability of these biopesticides was revealed. The study was conducted in the summer season of 2016 when the nymphs and adults of the insect are abundant in the region. In in vitro conditions, the Spruzit Neu (Pyrethrum) and Dipel DF (Bacillu thuringiensis) biopesticides were sprayed at different doses (DiPel® DF BT 100gr / 100lt, Dipel® DF BT 300gr / 100lt, Dipel® DF BT 500gr / 100lt ve Spruzit® Neu) on the nymphs and adults of the insect. The adults and nymphs were checked with 2-day intervals, and the results were assessed according to the One-Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA) and the Duncan Test. It was determined that the most effective applications for the nymphs were Dipel DF 300gr/100lt and 500gr/100lt. It was also determined that the most effective applications for the adult individuals were Spruzit Neu 600ml/100lt and Dipel DF 500gr/100lt doses. The highest death rates in the nymphs were determined in Spruzit Neu 600ml/100lt dose as 72,5%; and in Dipel DF dose as 80%. These rates were determined in Pyrethrum 600 ml/100lt dose as 78%, and in Dipel DF 500 gr/100lt dose as 75%. As a conclusion, it was determined that both biopesticides are influential on the nymphs and adults of M.pruinosa. However, it was also determined that the fight will be more influential in the nymph period of the insect.

The European chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) is a specie with great economic importance in Europe that have been present for thousands of years. In Portugal, the chestnut helps to maintain a positive trade balance, by contributing to the gross national product (GDP). One of the biggest threats for the chestnut is the ink disease caused by Phytophthoracinnamomi, this disease is problematic to chestnut crop with a damaging impact. Silicon (Si) is classified as a beneficial nutrient, having the ability to make plants more resistant to attacks by pathogens. Studies on the effect of silicon on chestnut are practically non-existent, so the aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of silicon in the resistance of chestnut plants to P. cinnamomi. The plants were treated by 0 mM, 5 mM, 7.5mM and 10 mM SiK® with the analyzed mad at 0, 15 and 30 days after inoculation by P. cinnamomi. These findings showed that the Si-treated plants had higher survival rate resulted from the presence of phytoliths in root tissues, that acted as a mechanical barrier reducing the development of pathogenic structures and they arealso associated with the improvement on antioxidant activity through the increase of CAT and SOD, higher values of total phenols compounds and less oxidative damage. The presence of Si in PDA medium reduced the growth of P. cinnamomi all over the time, presenting high PI. This work shows that the Si fertilization in chestnut plants contributes to increase the resistance against P. cinnamomi infection.

The intractable increasing cost of synthetic pesticides is certainly intense in the coming production years. Looking into this viewpoint the farmers have to look for alternative actions to withstand their farming business profitability. Rhizome crude extracts can be an alternative for synthetic pesticides. This study was conducted to assess the effect of rhizome crude extracts against glutinous corn seedling maggots, corn earworm, corn borer, armyworm, and aphids; evaluate the effect of rhizome crude extracts on the growth and yield of glutinous corn, and determine the profitability of glutinous corn production using rhizome plants as a source of organic pesticide. The treatments were as follows: T0 – No pesticide applied; T1 – Potable water alone; T2 – Ginger crude extracts; T3 – Turmeric crude extracts; T4 – Galangal crude extracts; and T5 – Shampoo ginger crude extracts. Results revealed that insect-pests and their damage on glutinous corn crop were significantly lessened by the application of rhizome crude extracts regardless of sources. This contributed to the significant stover yield and harvest index performance of treated plants with rhizome crude extracts thus obtained a profitable yield compared to those plants without any pesticide applied.
Abstract— This study was conducted to identify, test the pathogenicity of strawberry root and stalk rot pathogens and evaluate the efficiency of some biocontrol agents and fungicides to control the disease. The isolation and identification of fungi associated with infected plant samples showed that Rhizoctonia solani was detected in all studied commercial strawberry lath houses at different location of Baghdad-Iraq. The frequency percentages ranged 25.5-63.5 % and 10.75 - 40 % for Rhizoctonia solani and Phymatotrichopsis omnivora respectively. Pathogenicity test revealed R. solani and P. omnivora isolates were highly pathogenic to strawberry plants. The disease severity percentages of R. solani and P. omnivora were 83.0-100% and 55.5-62.0 % respectively. The isolates HRs3 and KPh1 of R. solani and P. omnivora respectively, caused the highest disease were used during this study. The control agents Rizolex and Tachigarin fungicides, Azotobacter chroococcum and Pseudomonas fluorescens have shown high efficiency against R. solani and P. omnivora on culture media (PDA).
The treatment of biocontrol agent’s A. chroococcum and P. fluorescens and the fungicide Rizolex and Preserve Pro showed high efficiency in disease control and enhance plants growth under greenhouse conditions. Disease severities on foliar and root system in A. chroococcum , Rizolex , Preserve Pro and P. fluorescens were 6,66 and 0.00 %, 20.00 and 0.00 %,13.33 and 0.00 % and 13.33and 0.00 % respectively in plants infected with R. solani .Whereas they were 6.66 and 0.00%, 13.33 and 0.00 %,13.33 and 0.00 %,and 13.33 and 0.00 % respectively in plants infected with P. omnivora. This study is the first report of the occurrence of root and stalk rot disease caused by R. solani and P. omnivora on strawberry plants in Iraq.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

Consequently pharmacist-led diabetes cardiovascular risk (DCVR) clinics have been established in both primary and secondary care sites in NHS Lothian during the past five years. An audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery at the clinics was conducted in order to evaluate practice and to standardize the pharmacists’ documentation of outcomes. Pharmaceutical care issues (PCI) and patient details were collected both prospectively and retrospectively from three DCVR clinics. The PCI`s were categorized according to a triangularised system consisting of multiple categories. These were ‘checks’, ‘changes’ (‘change in drug therapy process’ and ‘change in drug therapy’), ‘drug therapy problems’ and ‘quality assurance descriptors’ (‘timer perspective’ and ‘degree of change’). A verified medication assessment tool (MAT) for patients with chronic cardiovascular disease was applied to the patients from one of the clinics. The tool was used to quantify PCI`s and pharmacist actions that were centered on implementing or enforcing clinical guideline standards.
