300 students from 6 European countries collaborated in international teams, guided by teachers and experienced student tutors, to publish two digital magazines on global news and issues. The tutors helped organize the 35 international teams on a discussion forum, commented on the teams' shared documents, and congratulated their teams' work. The resulting magazines contained 184 pages across 33 original student-written articles that were properly sourced and cited. The project helped improve students' self-esteem and engagement through their work as budding journalists.

Primary school –kindergarten nr 90 is located in Gates of the City, Moldova with nice views. It opened in 1995 and has two floors with 17 classrooms, an assembly hall, offices, cafeteria, library, and two gyms hosting 401 students. Students participate in sports, English, theatre and other clubs with class sizes ranging from 20-34 students. Fryslân is a province in the north of the Netherlands where the two official languages are spoken: Dutch and Frisian. Of the 620,000 inhabitants of Fryslân about 55% consider Frisian as their mother tongue. Frisian language is an obligatory part of the curriculum in primary education and in early secondary education. Afûk is the publisher of educational materials for Frisian language learning in education. They provide coherent packages of subject-related paper based learning materials, but also a digital learning environment. Looking at theme’s within these materials, it is clear that typical cultural themes of the Frisian culture - such as typical sports, the history and the environment - take an important role. On the other hand many themes within the educational materials do not have that specific emphasize on the Frisian culture. In this session the presenters will argue pros and conns of using typical cultural themes for language learning. The dilemma between conserving and passing thru culture versus the use of language that is focused on present and future will be the focus of debate. There will be room for discussion as the presenters are curious about how other regions deal with this and how a balance could be found.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace.
