This document summarizes a project-based learning course involving translation work to support tsunami survivors in Rikuzentakata, Japan. The goals of the course were for students to develop technology skills, collaborate at a distance, improve their language skills through translation work, and learn about the local community and experiences of survivors. Student feedback indicated they enjoyed having flexibility to work independently with technology tools like Google Drive, appreciated collaborating with peers to provide feedback on work, and found translating and ensuring accurate meaning transfer between languages to be challenging skills.
