• There are many shots in which an artist will use to attract the audience to the
song, this is to increase the population of the song which will gain the artist
into success.
• When attracting an audience you want to get them emotionally involved with
the song as you do them enjoying it, the use of camera shots is what artists use
to do this.
The use of close ups is based around trying to connect an audience to the artist
and empathises their emotion in the song, their appearance and the genre.
Mid shots are less personal to the audience but open up the scene and location
more so the audience get a feel for the setting and feel of the video.
Long shots expose the entire performer, their make up down to their full outfit
and location around them, this could be conveyed as a ‘birds eye view’, these
shots are the least intimate type of shots in which you have.

◦ The mise en scene is defined as everything that is seen in the shot including, props, make up,
costume and all the other objects in the clip.
◦ In videos the mise en scene can create a huge part of ensuring the message of the video gets
across to the audience, the make up and costumes can tell a story in itself to the audience, if the
artist is dressed in a black dress with gloomy make up it would connotate to you that the
message is she's depressed, this is why its so important to get the mise en scene right.

are different from the original edit – this could be the case if the song is turned into a short film,

◦ Sound consists of two main forms, diegetic sound which is already present in the film and non
diegetic sound which can be edited over. Sound in music videos is the main reason for

as this can affect the overall look and quality of the video. Depended on the type of song the
editing will differ, if a song is a pop song its likely to be fast, by this each shot is cut to the beat
in order to keep the audiences attention to the video and to ensure it flows correctly. In
comparison to slower songs in which the song will have slow motion and longer cuts in order to
fit with the slow emotion and speed of the song.
