What is COCOMO
• COCOMO Stands for Constructive Cost Estimation Model
• The Constructive Cost Model is a procedural software cost
estimation model developed by Barry W. Boehm.
• Classifies the Projects into 3 Categories
1. Organic
2. Semi Detached
3. Embedded
Purpose of COCOMO
• The purpose of this Model is to help the end user to make Estimate of the
Effort required to Build the software, staff and Cost estimation.
• Throughout this video we are only discussing Basic COCOMO model.
• For other variants visit further videos in the series.
COCOMO Project types
• Organic Projects:
• Good experience | Small Team | Less Complexity
• Semi-Detached:
• Experience + Newbies | Size = Small to Medium (Comparitively
Larger than Organic)
• Embedded:
• Experienced team | Very Large Team | Complexity High
Constant Values

organic 2.4 1.05 2.5 0.38
Semi-detached 3.0 1.12 2.5 0.35
embedded 3.6 1.20 2.5 0.32
Constant Values
Effort = a*(KLOC)b
Duration = c*(effort)d
Staffing = Effort/Duration
