Meet The Bakers
Marlay Park Markets are in autumn mode now, with tables laden with
produce and vendors feeling the chill in the air. It won’t be long before
the thermals are out. Not only do we have many farmers at the market,
we also have a wonderful selection of bakeries and I’d like to introduce
you to the bakers who get up early to bake fresh deliciousness for you.
The Baking House
Most of you will know The Baking
House, the first bakery to join Marlay
Park Market all those years ago. In
business since 2004, the bakery is
now based in Swords. Jenny and
Sonia pecialise in French bread
and pastries, sweet and savoury.
Customers come early for pecan and
chocolate sablé and their high fibre
multi seed is a particularly popular
choice.
Rosaleen’s Gluten Free Kitchen
Rosaleen’s Kitchen, is a gluten free bakery based
near Mullingar. As a result of losing her job as an
administrator, and being diagnosed a coeliac, in 2012
Rosaleen Coates changed career direction and opened
her certified gluten-free bakery. Every Saturday,
customers come early for brown bread or white multi
seed and can’t help but pick up some berry and fruit
scones. Rosaleen’s range is extensive, including loaves
of bread as well as apple pie, cupcakes, sweet tarts, and
pizza bases.
One In The Oven
Rike’s very special One In The Oven Bakery has been in business since
2011. What distinguishes Rike from other bakers is that she does all her
baking at the market using the ovens in her unmissable yellow bakery.
The smell of freshly baked bread is almost torture for those of us trying
to avoid temptation - I want to pluck a
cheese stick from the basket every time I
walk by. Rike lives on an organic farm in
west Wicklow and despite her products not
being certified organic, she used organic
flour and fruit because of her belief in it
being better for the planet.

Api’s Chocolates,
while not
technically a
bakery, more a
chocolatiers, also
has some divine
baked goods
alongside their
chocolates, all of
which are handmade by Maria.
Driven by their desire to work at
something they care about, Api’s
Chocolates are a worthwhile stop
off as you will see.
Cakelicious
As a result of
competing
successfully in
the Great Irish
Bake Off, Dave
Murphy started
his own home
bakery specialising
in cheesecake in
jars, lemonade,
cookies and seasonal pestos. In
business just one year, Dave was
delighted with how well received
his products were earlier in the
summer in Taste of Dublin.

Naomi’s Muffins
When Naomi moved to Ireland from Berkeley, California, she simply
couldn’t find the type of baked goods she liked. She started baking
at home just to fulfill her own needs, and then following favourable
comments and encouragement, started her own business in 2005, calling
it Naomi’s Muffins. Based
near Drogheda, Naomi
has been trading at Marlay
Markets on Saturdays
for years. She has many
early morning customers,
buying bags of muffins to
bring home to the family,
or brownies. cinnamon
rolls, scones and cookies
to accompany their coffee
as they browse around the
market.
The Corner Bakery
Husband and wife team,
Cara and Dave, set up the
Corner Bakery in 2005.
Trading in Marlay Park
every Sunday, you will find
their fabulous selection of
brownies, chocolate biscuit
cake, malteser bars, their
signature cinnamon balls,
and a wide and decadent
selection of cakes and
cookies.
Big Thumbs Up to Bryan’s Coffee
At the beginning of the summer, Bryan’s Coffee set up their stall at
3.30AM in order to be ready to greet the participants of the Darkness Into
Light 5km walk for Pieta House, starting at 4.15AM from the courtyard in
Marlay Park. All proceeds were donated to Pieta House, €876 in total. Well
done Bryan - a truly great gesture.
And in other news... Fresh Fish is back
A wonderful new fresh fish stall will be trading every Saturday. They have
an extensive range, excellent pricing, and are keen to hear what you
want, so stop by and see the lovely Marie.
Armelles Kitchen
Armelle’s Kitchen, based in
Kilcullen, creates a patisserie
stall each Sunday, the likes of
which you won’t see elsewhere.
Delicate fine pastries, visually
stunning as well as melt in your
mouth fabulous. A popular
stop off with all the park users
as they weigh up their Sunday
afternoon tea options
Artists, and Arts &
Crafters: BEWARE
A VERY good art supply stall has
joined the line up on Saturdays.
Specialist equipment, as
well as basic supplies. Great
for back to school stuff, and
for replenishing your craft
cupboard.
