means to me…

I started baking with my nan when I was a small boy. She
was a whizz at making homemade Cornish pasties and
cakes and I can still remember the sense of excitement
when the oven door clicked open and I saw and smelled
what we’d baked. It was like magic.
My passion for home baking
has never faltered over the
years and I’m now sharing
my skills and experiences
with my own children.We
bake all of our own bread at
home and make lots of cakes.
They love getting their hands
messy and there are always
lots of smiles in our kitchen.
As a business, there is an
enthusiasm for baking
throughout all of our sites
and we have a proud
philosophy to bake in our
kitchens every day. It’s
just what we do and our
customers and clients really
appreciate it.
I owe my nan a lot and I
always make sure I visit
her when I return home to
Cornwall. And why wouldn’t
I? She’s still baking at the age
of 92 and loves making treats
for my family to enjoy.

5. We set our alarm clocks nice and early every morning
during Baking Week to ensure we only served the
freshest cakes, buns, biscuits and breads.
Baking Week was a great opportunity
for our customers and clients to
indulge in some traditional home
baking favourites, such as farmhouse
loaves, scones and lemon drizzle cake.
6. But it was also a perfect opportunity
to talk to them about the benefits of
eating different types of fresh bread
and to open their eyes to new and
delicious recipes. These included
chocolate and beetroot cake, the
duffin (a cross between a muffin and
a doughnut) and the black olive, chilli
and coriander loaf.
They say variety is the spice of life. It
certainly was during Baking Week!
There was a distinctive‘buzz’in all of
our sites during Baking Week and we
built on that by covering events across
our site network on our social media
platforms.
We posted photographs and stories on
our facebook page and twitter account
and we even ran a competition to give
one of our followers the chance to win
afternoon tea for two at the Ritz Hotel
in London.

Needless to say, we attracted quite a
few new facebook followers during
our promotion and two of them will
be tucking into one of the world’s best
cream teas very soon!

9. Everyone loves gingerbread men and
raising money for charity. So, we decided
to combine the two during BakingWeek.
All of our sites baked fresh‘George the
Gingerbread Man’biscuits during our
promotion and we donated 50p from the sale
of every biscuit to the Great Ormond Street
Children’s Hospital charity.
