food event, we decided to
show our customers the kind
of scrumptious treats we can
create with a handful of
fresh ingredients, a red-hot
oven and giant-sized portions
of skill and passion.

was born.

Our Food is Everything* brand is focused on giving our
customers and clients a better understanding of who we
are as people and what food makes us smile.
Good old-fashioned
home baking is part of our
professional make up. It’s a
kitchen pastime that’s never
been more popular as people
return to their roots and
search for the kind of rewards
that only wholesome, rustic
home baking can provide.
But we appreciate that many
of our customers probably
don’t have the time to make
themselves a rich chocolate
sponge or some sundried
tomato Ciabatta.Therefore,
BakingWeek was all about
putting our skills to good use
and doing it for them!

What home baking
means to me…
“
EVENT // BAKING WEEK
I started baking with my nan when I was a small boy. She
was a whizz at making homemade Cornish pasties and
cakes and I can still remember the sense of excitement
when the oven door clicked open and I saw and smelled
what we’d baked. It was like magic.
My passion for home baking
has never faltered over the
years and I’m now sharing
my skills and experiences
with my own children.We
bake all of our own bread at
home and make lots of cakes.
They love getting their hands
messy and there are always
lots of smiles in our kitchen.
As a business, there is an
enthusiasm for baking
throughout all of our sites
and we have a proud
philosophy to bake in our
kitchens every day. It’s
just what we do and our
customers and clients really
appreciate it.
I owe my nan a lot and I
always make sure I visit
her when I return home to
Cornwall. And why wouldn’t
I? She’s still baking at the age
of 92 and loves making treats
for my family to enjoy.

We set our alarm clocks nice and early every morning
during Baking Week to ensure we only served the
freshest cakes, buns, biscuits and breads.
Baking Week was a great opportunity
for our customers and clients to
indulge in some traditional home
baking favourites, such as farmhouse
loaves, scones and lemon drizzle cake.
But it was also a perfect opportunity
to talk to them about the benefits of
eating different types of fresh bread
and to open their eyes to new and
delicious recipes. These included
chocolate and beetroot cake, the
duffin (a cross between a muffin and
a doughnut) and the black olive, chilli
and coriander loaf.
They say variety is the spice of life. It
certainly was during Baking Week!
There was a distinctive‘buzz’in all of
our sites during Baking Week and we
built on that by covering events across
our site network on our social media
platforms.
We posted photographs and stories on
our facebook page and twitter account
and we even ran a competition to give
one of our followers the chance to win
afternoon tea for two at the Ritz Hotel
in London.

Needless to say, we attracted quite a
few new facebook followers during
our promotion and two of them will
be tucking into one of the world’s best
cream teas very soon!
Everyone loves gingerbread men and
raising money for charity. So, we decided
to combine the two during BakingWeek.
All of our sites baked fresh‘George the
Gingerbread Man’biscuits during our
promotion and we donated 50p from the sale
of every biscuit to the Great Ormond Street
Children’s Hospital charity.

But rather than telling our clients and customers
about the core values that underpin our business
and inspire us everyday, we prefer to show them.
In June, we therefore
brought the buzz and
excitement of today’s
Street Food culture to all
of our restaurants during a
week-long promotion.
By cooking and serving
lots of Artisan Street
Food treats that use
fresh ingredients and
ooze intense flavours, we
wanted to demonstrate
the deep-rooted
appreciation we have for
foods from different parts
of the world, and also
show our understanding
and passion for emerging
food trends and cultures.
Our Street Food promotion
was a way of opening the
eyes of our clients and
customers to us as people
and also giving them a
food experience that they
would find vibrant, tasty
and memorable.

We gave each day
a distinctive theme
during our week-long
promotion:
Monday : Mediterranean
Tuesday : MexicanWave

Friday : Fish & Chip shop
We used fresh, wholesome and often locally-sourced
ingredients that are available only a stone’s throw away
from each of our restaurants.We wrote five fantastic Street
Food menus that included these tasty treats:

Feedback has pointed to our Street
Food extravaganza being a huge
success. Our clients and customers
loved the fusion of different flavours
that we brought them and the
authentic atmosphere we created by
using colourful bunting, imaginative
props and themed music topped
things off perfectly.
To give you a little taste of the Street Food
culture that’s sweeping the world, we’ve
written a couple of authentic Street Food
recipes that you may like to recreate at
home for your friends and family.
They’re pretty simple to put together and,
just like our Street Food promotion, they’ll
provide you with great tastes, a unique
food experience and some big smiles.

promotion in each of our
client sites to showcase
our expertise when using a
wide variety of ingredients
to cook fantastic food.
We believe Great Britain is
a fantastic country for lots
of reasons. But one of its
standout qualities is the
diversity of the tasty food
that’s available in our cities,
towns and villages.
Our Regional FoodWeek
promotion was a way of
celebrating this variety and
highlighting our skills in a
fun and memorable way.

  • 20. Feedback has pointed to our Street Food extravaganza being a huge success. Our clients and customers loved the fusion of different flavours that we brought them and the authentic atmosphere we created by using colourful bunting, imaginative props and themed music topped things off perfectly. To give you a little taste of the Street Food culture that’s sweeping the world, we’ve written a couple of authentic Street Food recipes that you may like to recreate at home for your friends and family. They’re pretty simple to put together and, just like our Street Food promotion, they’ll provide you with great tastes, a unique food experience and some big smiles.

  • 29. We are proud of the customers we serve, the quality of the ingredients we use and skills of the people that cook our food. But rather than just telling our clients and customers what we’re passionate about, we think it’s much more powerful to show them. In March we hosted a ‘Regional FoodWeek’ promotion in each of our client sites to showcase our expertise when using a wide variety of ingredients to cook fantastic food. We believe Great Britain is a fantastic country for lots of reasons. But one of its standout qualities is the diversity of the tasty food that’s available in our cities, towns and villages.
