John Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta, Georgia, invented Coca-Cola in 1886. He created a carbonated soft drink that was sold at soda fountains. Pemberton experimented with a formula including coca leaves and kola nuts. Frank Robinson, Pemberton's partner, named the new beverage "Coca-Cola". Pemberton sold portions of his business before his death in 1888, with the majority being purchased by businessman Asa G. Candler. Coca-Cola has since become one of the most recognizable brands worldwide.
