'Tree planting' is not "Tree growing'!!

Tropical peatlands in Indonesia play an important role in carbon storage and mitigating climate change. However, many have been drained and converted to agriculture like oil palm and timber plantations, causing fires and degradation. A past Mega Rice Project in Central Kalimantan to convert peatland forests to rice fields failed due to unsuitable soil conditions and contributed to degradation. Rehabilitation efforts face challenges of limited funding and fires. Future agricultural innovations for smallholders in peatlands need to encourage sustainable land use and address social and ecological constraints.
'Tree planting' is not "Tree growing'!!
