"Reversing Deforestation is complicated, planting a tree is simple."
Do you know about Deforestation?
Deforestation refers to the decrease in forest areas across the world that are lost for other uses such as agricultural croplands, urbanization or mining activities. It has been negatively affecting natural ecosystems, biodiversity and the climate.
CAUSES OF DEFORESTATION
Agriculture
Commercial or industrial agriculture cause around 40% of forest loss – in the search for space to grow food, fibers or biofuel (such as palm oil, maize, cotton, sugar cane and many more)
Forest fires
We lose large number of trees each year due to fires in the forest. These Fires, whether causes by man or nature results in huge loss of forest cover.
Urbanization
With the expansion of cities and also due to population growth, more land is needed to establish housing and settlements. Therefore forest land is reclaimed.
Effects of Deforestation
Increase in Global Warming
Trees play a major role in controlling global warming. The trees utilize greenhouse gases, restoring the balance in the atmosphere. With constant deforestation, the ratio of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has increased.
Floods
When it rains, trees absorb and store a large amount of water with the help of their roots. When they are cut down, the flow of water is disrupted, and the soil loses its ability to retain water. It leads to floods in some areas and droughts in others.
Wildlife Extinction
Due to the massive felling down of trees, various animal species are lost. They lose their habitat and also forced to move to a new location. Many of them are even pushed to extinction.
How to Reduce and Prevent Deforestation?
Plant a Tree where you can
The most straightforward personal strategy to fight against deforestation is to plant a tree. Planting a tree could be considered a lifelong investment into the environment and your good mental health.
Educate Others
Still, many are entirely unaware of the global warming problem we’re facing. Educate your friends, family, and community by sharing the deforestation facts, and its causes and effects. You can make an impact!
Use less paper
Since the industry has such a high need for wood, it should come as no surprise that some part of the timber originates from illegal logging.
Recycle paper and cardboard
Imagine how many trees you can save and how much good they perform for the quality of our lives by recycling all your paper.
If we can understand what forests can do for us,
We can stop deforestation.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.
2. What is Deforestation
• Deforestation is the purposeful clearing of
forested land. Throughout history and into modern
times, forests have been razed to make space for
agriculture and animal grazing, and to obtain wood
for fuel, manufacturing, and construction.
Deforestation has greatly altered landscapes around
the world.
• Deforestation means cutting or clearing trees or
forests over a large area.
5. Causes of Deforestation
1. Clearing land to build housing: Countries resort to deforestation to
cope with the increasing demand for housing brought about by the
growing population.
2. Felling trees for wood: Logging, or simply cutting down trees for
timber is one of the main causes of deforestation.
3. Agriculture: To provide land for food crops such as rice, palm oil, for
rearing cattle etc. undisturbed rainforest areas end up being removed.
4. Forest Fire: Hundreds of trees are lost each year due to fire in
various portion of the world. Fire whether caused by man or nature
results in huge lost of forest.
5. Other land uses: * Land for mining and industrial projects
* Building dams.
6. Effect of Deforestation to
climate change
• Deforestation of tropical forests may risk triggering tipping points in the climate
system and of forest ecosystem collapse which would also have effects on climate
change.
Forest fires: As deforestation rates continue to rise, the likelihood of forest fires
also increase. People tend to use wood from deforestation as a source of kindling
for fires that assist in preparing meals and also serve as a source of heat. As the
smoke is released from this burning wood, it can mix with clouds in the
atmosphere, preventing rain and causing dry spells. When this dryness continues
for long periods of time, forest fires are more likely to occur.
Human mortality: A study conducted from 2002 to 2018 determined that the increase
in temperature as a result of climate change, and the lack of shade due to deforestation,
has increased the mortality rate of workers in Indonesia.[65] These findings imply that
developing countries will face harsh effects of global warming as they might not have
access to fresh water or electricity that would power air conditioning.[65] As deforestation
rates continue to increase, the percentage of workers that face mortality will increase
simultaneously.
7. Economical affects
• What are the economic causes of
deforestation?
Global economic factors such as a country's foreign
debt, expanding global markets for rainforest timber and
pulpwood, or low domestic costs of land, labor, and fuel
can encourage deforestation over more sustainable land
use. Access to technology may either enhance or
diminish deforestation.
8. Solution to Deforestation:
• There are many solutions to deforestation. A start would be to
convince companies and governments to change their habits, as
their choice of raw materials has a big impact on our forests. By
introducing deforestation prevention policies in supply chains,
companies can be put under pressure.
• Preserving our current forests can be seen as the main solution to
deforestation. We need forests in order to survive. They ensure that
we can breathe. They are home to millions of people and billions
depend on forests.
• Another approach to preserve our forests is to change the
consumption behavior of the population. But to do this, people first
have to be informed and educated about this so that they take
action themselves.
9. Impact of Deforestation
• Loss of Habitat: One of the most dangerous and unsettling effects of deforestation is the loss of
animal and plant species due to their loss of habitat. 70% of land animals and plant species live in
forests.
• Increased Greenhouse Gases: In addition to the loss of habitat, the lack of trees also allows a
greater amount of greenhouse gases to be released into the atmosphere. Healthy forests absorb
carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, acting as valuable carbon sinks. Deforested areas lose that
ability and release more carbon.
• Water in the Atmosphere: One of the most important forests for regulating water cycles across
the planet is the Amazon rainforest. Its millions of trees work together to release moisture into the
air, creating atmospheric "rivers" that regulate Earth's weather patterns.
• Soil Erosion and Flooding: Further effects of deforestation include soil erosion and coastal
flooding. Trees help the land to retain water and topsoil, which provides the rich nutrients to
sustain additional forest life.
• Other impacts: Species Loss, loss of valuable medicines, Extinction and Disease
10. Framework for forest
management
• The Forest (Conservation) Act of 1980 (FCA, 1980) is an
act by the Parliament of India which ensures conservation
of forest and its resources.
• It was enacted by the Parliament of India in order to control
the ongoing deforestation of the forests of India. It came
into force on October 25, 1980 containing five sections.
11. Conclusion:
Deforestation is a human activity that is destructive
and should be discouraged. Environmental
conservation is our responsibility because we have
only one earth to live in.
