- 3. WHAT IS CLUTCH A clutch is a mechanical device which engages and disengages power transmission especially from driving shaft to driven shaft. In the simplest application, clutches connect and disconnect two rotating shafts (drive shafts or line shafts). In these devices, one shaft is typically attached to an engine or other power unit (the driving member) while the other shaft (the driven member) provides output power for work. While typically the motions involved are rotary, linear clutches are also possible.
- 4. PRINCIPAL: It operates on the principal of friction. When two surfaces are brought in contact and are held against each other due to friction between then, they can be used to transmit power. If one is rotated then other is also rotates.
- 5. TYPES OF CLUTCHES Cone clutch. Semi-centrifugal clutch. Centrifugal clutch. Friction clutches
- 6. CONE CLUTCH: A cone clutch serves the same purpose as a disk or plate clutch. However, instead of mating two spinning disks, the cone clutch uses two conical surfaces to transmit torque by friction. The cone clutch transfers a higher torque than plate or disk clutches of the same size due to the wedging action and increased surface area. Cone clutches are generally now only used in low peripheral speed applications although they were once common in automobiles and other combustion engine transmissions.
- 7. SEMI-CENTRIFUGUAL CLUTCH: A centrifugal clutch is a clutch that uses centrifugal force to connect two concentric shafts, with the driving shaft nested inside the driven shaft. It engages more at higher speeds. The input of the clutch is connected to the engine crankshaft while the output may drive a shaft, chain, or belt.
- 8. CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH: A centrifugal clutch is a clutch that uses centrifugal force to connect two concentric shafts, with the driving shaft nested inside the driven shaft. It engages more at higher speeds.
- 9. FRICTION CLUTCH: A friction clutch in which the frictional surfaces are disks. slip clutch, slip friction clutch. a friction clutch that will slip when the torque is too great. Type of: clutch. a coupling that connects or disconnects driving and driven parts of a driving mechanism.
- 10. WORKING OF CLUTCH: Running through the centre of the pressure plate, clutch disc and flywheel is the input shaft of the transmission. The shaft takes the input, or power of the engine, and sends it down through the gears to the wheels. ... The input shaft is what the clutch disc itself is connected to.
