THE CLOUD WILL BE THE NETWORK / MOBILE DEVICES WILL POWER THE CLOUD
Scott McNeally ( Sun Microsystems ) once famously said:
“The network is the computer”.
Significant work is already being done by the likes of Boeing, AT&T, GE and their ilk in the “internet of things”
space.
Infrastructure developers at this scale are already well underway developing and implementing their version of
cloud networks, where the cloud of “things” will not require a “data centre” in the traditional sense, the network
as a whole will be the data center.
We put a man on the moon with less compute than a 1980’s digital calculator watch. Today it’s not unusual for
our teenage kids to carry multi core smartphones with 64 GB of storage – imagine what that current fabric is
capable of if we just start to use it.
