Amongst the various cloud technology vendors and certification bodies offering cloud training, cloud solution architecture (CSA) is by far the most commonly served area. Architecture is undeniably important, but what is it that makes cloud architecture so deserving of this attention? What changed for architects in cloud computing? How do IT professionals, and the trainers and consultants supporting them, make this transition to cloud architecture successfully?
We’re honored to have Mark Skilton, accomplished digital consultant, academic, and author of the CCC Professional Cloud Solutions Architect syllabus, provide the underpinning competencies critical for successfully transitioning to CSA.
Understand what aspects of cloud make architecture a critical area for re-skilling.
Discuss the evolution of cloud adoption and demand for qualified CSA.
Gain insights on the value and future outlook of cloud computing and architecture.
The question of whether to transition enterprise applications to the cloud is a valid question in most organizations. Determining which applications should go and how to maintain control once they are there, however, is slowing down the journey to the cloud.
These slides - based on the webinar hosted by leading IT analyst firm Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) - cover how you can avoid the common mistakes and reduce risk in the transformation to cloud.
You’ve probably seen some cool data visualizations, and perhaps daydreamed of the day your organization’s data would be as easily computable. You’re not alone, many enterprises are falling behind the Big Data bandwagon and don’t all have clear direction to optimize their use of enterprise data as part of their cloud strategy.
Data is the “lifeblood of your business. It contains your organization’s history. And it’s trying to tell you something.” So, isn’t it time we pay attention?
“The standard B2B operating model was designed to optimize vendor’s “push” of prepackaged products to customers via large, up-front deals. The goal was usually to get the maximum amount of product assets transferred from the vendor’s balance sheet to the customer’s balance sheet in one big order. But today the assumption that a customer can determine in advance exactly what it needs and then take on all the responsibility for the level of value that it gets from a complex business product is becoming less acceptable. Customers need their suppliers to step up and get into the outcome game. The old B2B model doesn’t make Sense in digitalization. “
[J.B. Wood]
The statement above forecasts that the whole operating model of companies like Ericsson, from marketing to product development, sales and customer support will change. Also many other industry reports argue that a combination Digital Distribution, Digital Products and Cloud Practices will have disruptive impacts on how we do business in the near future.
In this session, we will have an outside-in approach to Cloud technology and “cloud first” approaches for our future business success. We’ll focus on non-technical stakeholders.
Hybrid Cloud A Journey to the Cloud by Peter HellemansNRB
A recent Avanade study highlighted that, although it is not yet clear how and under what conditions it will be effective and efficient, within 4 years more than half of the Belgian business applications and services will be deployed in a hybrid cloud environment.
The integration of the hybrid cloud within the IT infrastructure is a key success factor when defining a hybrid cloud approach that links to private and public clouds. An optimized integration can only be defined and implemented after determining the criteria to select the most suitable cloud. Those criteria include workloads, security, expected performance, data sovereignty, costs...
NRB Hybrid Cloud approach will demonstrate how this integration can be rapidly defined and implemented. We will explain why and how to choose your cloud approach and show you the benefits of implementing a hybrid cloud strategy.

Introducing the OMG’s Data Residency Maturity Model
With the rise of managed IT services and cloud computing, sensitive data is regularly moved across countries and jurisdictions, which can be in direct conflict with various international, national or local regulations dictating where certain types of data can be stored (e.g., the European Union’ General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR). Data residency is also a consideration of data owners responsible for protecting and securing data from unintended access.
The Object Management Group® (OMG®), a technology standards consortium, launched a working group in 2015 to address the challenges of data residency and define a standards roadmap to help stakeholders manage the location of their data and metadata.
Given the complexity of the issue, a stepwise improvement plan is necessary. This webinar will introduce a new Data Residency Maturity Model (DRMM) proposed in December 2017. Similar to the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) invented in 1990 at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), the DRMM contains five maturity levels aimed at helping an organization improve their practices and governance of data residency. The OMG seeks feedback on the DRMM and calls on all interested parties to contribute to this work.

The topics of interoperability and portability are significant considerations in relation to the use of cloud services, but there is confusion and misunderstanding of exactly what this entails.
Interoperability and Portability for Cloud Computing: A Guide provides a clear definition of interoperability and portability and how these relate to various aspects of cloud computing and to cloud services.
This webinar will describe interoperability and portability in terms of a set of common cloud computing scenarios. This approach assists in demonstrating that both interoperability and portability have multiple aspects and relate to a number of different components in the architecture of cloud computing, each of which needs to be considered in its own right. The aim is to give both cloud service customers and cloud service providers guidance in the provision and selection of cloud services indicating how interoperability and portability affect the cost, security and risk involved.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most exciting and dynamic areas of IT at the present time. IoT involves the linking of physical entities (“things”) with IT systems that derive information about or from those things which can be used to drive a wide variety of applications and services which may be directly or indirectly connected or related to those things. IoT covers a very wide spectrum of applications, spanning enterprises, governments and consumers and represents the integration of systems from traditionally different communities: Information Technology and Operational Technology. As a result, it is important for IoT systems to have architectures, systems principles, and operations that can accommodate the interesting scale, safety, reliability, and privacy requirements.
The CSCC deliverable, Cloud Customer Architecture for IoT, shares best practices for supporting IoT using cloud computing.

This presentation provides the latest information on the OASIS Topology Orchestration Specification for Cloud Applications (TOSCA) v1.0 standard. TOSCA is a standard language used to describe a topology of cloud based web services, their components, relationships, and the processes that manage them. Key TOSCA concepts such as operational policy modeling, declarative composition and lifecycle management are covered along with the benefits both cloud customers and providers derive from using this standard. In addition, open source tooling support for TOSCA in projects such as OpenStack and the newly announced Aria project from Cloudify are discussed. Insight is given to the direction of the v1.1 specification and its timeline.
This presentation explores the latest release of OpenStack (OpenStack Mitaka) and shares highlights from the OpenStack Summit held April 25-29, 2016 in Austin, TX.
OpenStack is a free and open-source software platform for building and managing cloud computing platforms for public and private clouds, mostly deployed as an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS). The software platform consists of interrelated components that control hardware pools of processing, storage, and networking resources throughout a data center. OpenStack works with popular enterprise and open source technologies making it ideal for heterogeneous infrastructure.
Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.
