CLIMATE RESPONSIVE DESIGN
A climate-responsive building design reflects the weather conditions in
the precise area where the building is constructed. The design utilizes
data on the region's weather patterns and accounts for factors like
seasonality, intensity of the sun, wind, rainfall and humidity.
STRATEGIES
CROSS VENTILATION
RAIN WATER HARVESTING
WIND TOWER
SKY LIGHTING

CROSS VENTILATION : Cross-ventilation pertains to wind,
fresh air or a breeze entering through an opening (namely a
window) that flows directly through the occupied space and
out through an opening on the opposite side of the building,
where the air pressure is lower, whereby creating a flow of
cool air and as well as a current of air across the room from
the exposed area to the sheltered area. Windows or vents
positioned on opposite sides of the room allow passive
breezes a pathway through the structure, which circulate the
air and provide passive cooling.
RAIN WATER HARVESTING : Rainwater harvesting
(RWH) is the collection and storage of rain, rather than
allowing it to run off. Rainwater is collected from a roof-like
surface and redirected to a tank, cistern, deep pit (well,
shaft, or borehole), aquifer, or a reservoir with percolation,
so that it seeps down and restores the ground water.

WIND TOWER : A windcatcher, wind
tower, or wind scoop is a traditional
architectural element used to create
cross ventilation and passive cooling in
buildings.
SHADING DEVICES : Shading devices
on the external side of the window
include shutters, awnings, canopies,
blinds, and projecting horizontal and
vertical fins. Correctly designed, these
sun controls are the most effective of all
for reducing solar radiation since the
absorbed heat is dissipated externally.
