The One World Trust is seeking a volunteer research intern to assist with a project measuring the accountability of organizations involved in global climate governance and their impact on Ghana. The internship requires a 4-6 month commitment working 3-5 days a week conducting research, monitoring relevant developments, drafting analytical documents, and assisting with communications and administration. Ideal candidates have research experience, skills in comparative analysis, interviews, and office software, and an interest in questions of participation and governance.

1. Making global governance more accountable
Research Internship: Global Climate Governance
The One World Trust is looking for a volunteer intern to assist our team with research in our project on accountability in global climate
governance. As part of this project we will measure the accountability of several key global organisations involved in climate change
governance, assess their impact on Ghana, and analyse the responsiveness of institutional actors involved in making global policy in
this field to the needs and vulnerabilities of people living in poverty.
We are looking for a proactive and resourceful individual who is enthusiastic and thorough in their research work and committed to the
cause of promoting accountability of global organisations to people. As part of our team you would take responsibility for key elements
of the research and communications agenda associated with the project. Internships usually require a four-to-six month commitment,
working between three and five days a week at our office in Farringdon. All interns are also expected to help with administrative and
communications duties to ensure the smooth running of the organisation.
We offer a good insight into the work of a busy, multidisciplinary and international team that conducts leading specialised research at
the interface of global policy. We provide a space for all team members to make an individual and recognisable contribution to our
projects. Interns may have the opportunity to prepare and publish briefing papers. As an intern you will be able to claim an appropriate
daily transport and lunch reimbursement, and we will seek to find flexible arrangements that allow a practical combination of the
internship with other commitments.
Key responsibilities would include
• Contributing to quantitative or qualitative research
• Monitoring developments, events and activities relevant to accountability in global and key national governance processes,
• Drafting of academic standard analytical documents for internal and where appropriate external use and publication,
• Assisting in the communications of the Trust, including contributing to our Accountability Blog and assisting in the
development and implementation of social network and other innovative communication tools.
• Maintaining research and contacts databases and providing general administrative support to the team.
Candidates would ideally have
• a good first or preferably master’s degree in a subject relevant for the understanding of global climate governance;
• experience of structured and comparative primary and secondary research in relation to political change, legislative
processes, access to information and civil society;
• experience in preparing, conducting and analysing research interviews;
• understanding and demonstrated interest in questions of participation and governance at national and / or global level;
• developed administrative, organisational, and communication skills, and competence in the integrated use of a variety of
general office computer software;
• excellent oral and written command of English; a good working knowledge of a second language such as French, Portuguese,
Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, German or Japanese would be an advantage;
• the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a small diverse team, the capacity for finding innovative solutions
as challenges arise, and the organisational skills to manage multiple projects and tasks on a tight timeframe.
