Green Growth
Objectives are multiple and simultaneous
Issues are global in nature and interlinked
(climate change, resource depletion, poverty, inequality etc.)
Challenging for a single country or entity to tackle
(requires grasp of issues and interventions at cross-sectoral
and cross-boarder level)
Resources requirements significant
(money, time and skills) wide-ranging and long-term
Solutions require local approach with ownership
of local stakeholders for acceptability and scaling up
Additionally, there is increasing complexity and uncertainty in the problem space as well as solutions domain !

nable
Solutions need a 'Systems Approach'
Collaboration across institutions and sectors
- key for the 'helicopter view' of issues and for maximizing
use of available resources
- key to spur innovation (both in policy and technology)
and to capture synergy benefits and manage trade-offs
for multiple and simultaneous objectives
Sharing of knowledge, success stories and
learnings from failures is integral part of
collaboration for research and innovation
Diverse and local perspectives for enhancing
relevance of research, applicability of research in
evidence-based policy making and assisting relevant
capacity development

regions and promoting international and peer-to-
peer knowledge sharing and learning
Generating, collating and sharing
green growth best practices
• ‘Green Growth in Practice: Lessons from Country
Experiences’
- First comprehensive global assessment of green
growth initiatives and activities
- Expert network: 75 authors and 200+ reviewers
• Best practice case studies
- 47 cases, covering all regions and both
developing and developed countries
• Learning events
- In-country workshops, participation in international
knowledge sharing events, etc.

3. Sharing of knowledge and learnings
4. Identify knowledge gaps
5. Cross-pollination of ideas
6. Mutually reinforcing activities
(complimentary activities)
Value of partnership
Key learnings
- Not an exact science and is a journey - requires commitments from all involved parties
to be successful, sustainable and to create value for the involved parties
- Role of facilitator(s) and/or knowledge broker is crucial
to create the environment of trust and for members to rise above the institutional agendas to encourage
open sharing of ideas and information
- Institutions require strategy and appropriate resources to get most out of these
initiatives, given the stake and talk on innovation and the value of collaboration
- Diversity is key to enhancing relevance and value of such collaborative initiatives
(entities, sectors, disciplines and regions)
Future work areas and challenges
- Areas global platforms can play in catering to local/regional collaboration, knowledge
sharing and capacity development needs
(north-south, south-south knowledge sharing, technology transfer and capacity development
for least developed and middle-income countries)
- Win-win avenues for private sector engagement in knowledge sharing and capacity
development, particularly in least developed (LD) and middle-income (MI) countries
- Ways the existing initiatives can play in (near) real-time communication of on-the-ground
insights and issues to green growth practitioners, policy-makers and researchers,
particularly in regards to LD and MI economies
- Effective model of engagement with research funding agencies and organizations for
supporting identified knowledge gaps (e.g by GGKP Research Committees ?)
