2. THE WEATHER
● It is determined by TEMPERATURE,
PRECIPITATION AND WIND.
3. THE WEATHER
● Temperature is HIGH when it is hot and it is low when
it is cold.
● PRECIPITATION. The amount of water that falls from
clouds. It can be rain, snow, hail or sleet.
● WIND is moving air. Hurricanes are extremely
strong.
4. THE ELEMENTS OF WEATHER
● Wind: Moving air makes wind. We measure it with
the anemometer.
● Temperature: Temperatures are high when it is
hot and low when it is cold.
● Precipitation. We measure it with a rain gauge.
● Atmospheric pressure: This is how much the air
weighs.
6. THE SEASONS
● There are four seasons.
● SPRING: Begins on 21 March. Many plants
flower.
● SUMMER: Begins on 21 June. Temperatures are
HIGH.
● AUTUMN: begins on 23 September.
Temperatures fall.
● WINTER: Begins on 21 December. Temperatures
are low.
8. QUESTIONS
● What’s the weather like?
● What are the months of each the seasons?
● How can I measure the temperature?
9. CLIMATE
● Climate is the typical weather of a region for a
long period of time.
● To study climate, scientists study the elements of
weather for at least thirty years.
14. POLAR ZONES
● They are near the poles and in the mountains.
They have low temperatures all year rounds. The
precipitation they get during the year is in the form
of snow.
15. TROPICAL ZONES
● They are along the equator. They have high
temperatures, but different precipitations. Jungles,
savannahs and deserts are all in tropical areas.
16. TEMPERATE ZONES
● There are two of them on either side of the tropical
zone. Their temperatures are between 0 and 20
ºC.
17. QUESTIONS
● In which climatic zone can you find olive trees?
● In which climatic zone can you find a lot of ice?
● Where are tropical zones?

19. ACTIVITY
● What element of weather do you use to measure
temperature?
● What element of weather do you use to measure
wind direction?
● What are the factors of climate?
● What are the climate zones?
20. JOURNAL
● Do you like this unit?
