Fidel Ramos was the 12th President of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998. Prior to his presidency, he served in the Cabinet of President Corazon Aquino as chief-of-staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Secretary of National Defense from 1986 to 1991. Ramos received a military education in the United States and fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also held high-ranking positions in the Philippine military under President Ferdinand Marcos before joining the 1986 People Power Revolution.
