This document discusses how magnesium chloride and calcium chloride used for deicing roads can accelerate corrosion of vehicles. Neutral and alkaline detergents are ineffective at removing chlorides, but a low pH detergent can solubilize chlorides to prevent corrosion. It also applies a protective conversion coating to metal surfaces. Applying the right low pH detergent to vehicle undercarriages where chlorides accumulate can reduce corrosion in a cost-effective way when integrated into routine maintenance.
