Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Mission, was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India's Independence Day in 2014 and officially launched on Gandhi Jayanti to encourage cleanliness across India. On launch day, Modi addressed citizens in Delhi asking them to participate. A 'Swachh Bharat Run' was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan with around 1,500 people, including officers, staff, and families, participating and flagged off by President Pranab Mukherjee to promote the cleanliness campaign.
