SGSCC (Serious Games for Social & Creativity Competence) project organised a dedicated workshop “Social competences & creativity as a stepping stone towards personal growth, social development and employability” on 17 December 2014 in Brussels, Belgium at VLEVA premises, focusing on the importance of social skills and creativity for people with disabilities which is fundamental to both social integration and professional self-realisation.

The SGSCC (Serious Games for Social & Creativity Competencies – 531134-LLP-1-2012-1-BG-KA3-KA3MP) project has been partially funded under the Lifelong Learning program. The CP-CARE project is focusing on the Cerebral palsy (CP) – the most common physical disability in childhood, with a prevalence of 2–3 per 1000 live births in Europe. The term encompasses a heterogeneous group of disorders, causing activity limitations that are attributed to non-progressive disturbances that occurred in the developing fetal or infant brain. The motor disorders of CP are often accompanied by disturbances of sensation, perception, cognition, communication, behavior, by epilepsy and by secondary musculoskeletal problems. The level of disabilities of children with CP is widely distributed, and not limited to motor disturbances. Other disturbances include disturbances of cognition, communication and behavior. The management of CP is based on a multidisciplinary team approach including pediatricians, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social workers, special educators, orthopedic surgeons. The members of the team may vary depending on severity of the condition.
So far in Europe there is quality standards or training programme followed by the physiotherapist in taking care of these children which covers the above mentioned challenges in a way practically to support the professionals who are working with people with cerebral palsy (2012, Annual report of ACPIN (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology).
This project will give the opportunity for all the care givers, to follow up the basic and essential exercise or therapeutic interventions and the usage of assistive and/or adaptive devices needed for the children with cerebral palsy in their daily life. This training or curriculum will be developed by a consensus of the professionals working as a partner this CP care project. So this project will ensure to establish a common sense for all personal care givers to serve for those people for their independence in their daily living activities and participate to the social life. The training will also include about the environment and accesibility of the living areas for the children with cerebral palsy.
CP-CARE project will contribute to the basic knowledge and principles about the evidence based care intervention as well as updating knowledge of the caregivers. The CP-CARE training programme itself will have one major goal – to increase the independence of these children in the activities of daily living by training the caregivers as well as the physiotherapist’s practical theurapetic support and correct follow up daily care advises for the neuromusculoskeletal system.

Military Caregiving: Assistive Technology Devicesmilfamln
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHO TO ASK
From wheelchairs to hearing aids, memory supports to speech devices, assistive technology (AT) solutions have long been a staple for supporting the functioning of individuals with disabilities, especially wounded service members. However, there can be barriers to successful implementation of an assistive technology solution. Research has shown that the most important way to reduce this non-use or abandonment rate is to know how to find the available AT resources, involve the service member in selecting the AT, and to use a systematic process for assessing both the warrior’s needs and preferences. The most effective support may be personal assistance, strategies, or technologies—most commonly, a combination of these.
This webinar will present ways to be informed of the variety of available AT and the use of a systematic process to match the service member with the most appropriate solution for his or her enhanced functioning and well-being.

Editor's Notes
Good morning, first of all I would like to thank all the speakers and attendees for participating to this webinar today and EPR for supporting the initiative.
I would like to start our webinar by talking about some international initiatives on Assistive Technology, as well as introducing some definitions and the classification of assistive products according to the dedicated ISO standard.
I would start by recalling the United Nations Convention on the Rights of people with disability which was adopted in 2006.
In particular I would like to outline its Purpose «….», among General Principles we ca find the «….» and here are some of the General obligations for signatories: «To undertake… Convention»
Another very important milestone in the field of assistive technologies was the establishment, in 2014, within the WHO, of the GATE INITIATIVE, “With the mission ....... Assistive Health Products represent the" fourth pillar "for global health”.
Giulia Oggero, who kindly agreed to participate in this webinar, will talk about it after me
This slide shows the definition of Assitive Technology given in one of the first publications by the GATE initiative.
Assistive Technology is the “Application….health technology”
Assistive productrs “maintain…well-being”
Let's start to go into some detail with some examples, but first we must remember that, for the full and effective participation of people with disabilities in society, "Accessibility policies and AT policies and interventions must be well coordinated“.
In fact, it is necessary to design accessible environments, services and products but in some cases it is necessary to introduce personalized interventions which can include a combination of Assistive Products and Personal Assistance
Let’s see some examples of
Accessibility of products and environments:
the availability of accessibility features of mobile phones operating systems
ramps instead of stairs in public places
Assistive solutions:
individual adaptations of environments and products such as different input interfaces for IT devices or stairlifts
Assistive products that people carry with them in the various life contexts they frequent: a communicator and a rollator
Personal assistance: Someone who helps with transfers and who places the tablet on the rollator throught an articulated arm
Furthermore «With an ICF perspective, Assistive Technologies are contextual factors which, if proposed adequately, can be facilitators for the person, allowing him/her to maintain or improve its functioning and to increase performance in an activity.»
And here we are at the ISO 9999 standard which includes the definition and the classification of assistive products
According to this standard, it is the function that qualifies assistive products, and the classification was built on this basis
Moving on to the end of my presentation I would like to mention some very interesting publications.
One by ATScale entitled "The case for investing in assistive technologies" in which estimates of the economic, social and health benefits of investing in assistive technologies are reported.
Another one by the «World Intellectual Property Organization» were a very complete analisys of AT market situation and future trends is given.
Unfortunately, people with disabilities in the assistive technology ecosystem still face barriers, which are reported in this publication as the following 10: availability, affordability, technology, informational barriers, procedural, infrastructure, language, attitudinal, legal, lack of involvement
Steps forward must still be taken in ensuring all people in need to have access to appropriate AT, that’s why we decided to organize this event.
