This document summarizes a study that examined the relationship between student participation and performance in four classes during the Fall 2019 semester. The study built on previous research that found a significant relationship between a measure of participation that combined attendance and attentiveness, and scores on final exams. Participation was objectively measured using data from videoconferencing software, without interpretation by researchers. The results of analyzing each class separately and combined found a statistically significant relationship between the participation measure and scores on final exams.
