Level: Basic Students
Aims: To know the signs of
Punctuation and their
different uses.
Procedure Time Rationale
1. Introduction
• Ask students what they
already know about
punctuation.
• Show them a creative
use of punctuation: The
Ad.

By giving them the
idea of creative use of
punctuation, we are
building or activating
their formal schemata.
2. Tell them about Martin Luther
King and about the speech “I
had a dream”.
3. Give them the sheet of paper
with a part of the speech or to
show the text on the board and
ask them to punctuate
creatively.
4. Talk and nomeate the signs of

Procedure Time Rationale 1. Introduction • Ask students what they already know about punctuation. • Show them a creative use of punctuation: The Ad. 5’ By giving them the idea of creative use of punctuation, we are building or activating their formal schemata. 2. Give them the sheet of paper with a part of the speech or to show the text on the board and ask them to punctuate creatively. 4. Talk and nomeate the signs of 15’ This demonstration focuses on the interational content of the message (exchange of social meaning). Learners will resort primarly to their content schemata.

Give them the sheet of Charlie Chaplin and asking the students to use their recently learned use of punctuation, make them punctuate that speech properly. 2. Show them the subtitulated video of the speech and in group with the class comparate their work(s) to the Chaplin’s use. 15’ This activity fosters the practice of a very useful element of discourse, the punctuation.
