The Civil Rights Movement in Albany, Georgia in the early 1960s saw the founding of the Albany Movement in 1961 which demanded an end to segregation. By 1962, over 1000 protesters had been jailed, including Martin Luther King Jr. and Ralph Abernathy who were invited to town by the Albany Movement. Slater King, a cousin of Martin Luther King Jr., was one of the leaders of the Albany Movement and a civil rights activist. After being assaulted by local police, his brother C.B. King, who was a civil rights attorney, represented him.
