CJ210: Corrections State Correctional System Project – Spring 2014 The primary objective of this project is to provide students with a basic understanding of a specific state correctional system. You will discuss some of the concepts we have covered in the corrections course. If possible, be creative and add pictures to your report. However, pictures do not replace the text that should accompany the pictures. The text should be 3-5 pages but the document may be longer after including the cover page, added pictures and the reference page. Employment Types
The employment process in the public school system is different than in any other organization. Due process is a requirement of law but in the public school system it is especially important as the public school is a government entity. Due process for educators is limited to the due process for property rights. Judicial law has noted that schools do not typically deprive employees of life or liberty. The important focus in readings this week is how much due process is necessary and how much is recommended by the courts.
There are several different types of employment arrangements within the school system.

· Term contracts
· Continuing contracts
· Third-Party Independent Contract
Each employment arrangement has a specific hiring and termination process. This is important to know when dealing with the various positions. When interviewing and selecting staff administrators must understand what employment is available, the requirements in offering positions and the requirements involved in offering positions.
If you work in a state that has unions, much of this information is required per the collective bargaining agreement. If you live in a right to work state, this is much more flexible and determined by the local governing body.
First, reassignment is a very complicated issue. Generally speaking, most teacher and administrator contracts contain a clause that states that you can be assigned or reassigned at the discretion of the superintendent. Courts have found that the only property right that employees have is the right to getting paid, not the right to a specific position. As long as your pay is not changed your position can be changed therefore, many state departments of education will only hear reassignment complaints if an employee has suffered financially.
However reassignment cannot be retaliatory. You can't be reassigned after you have spoken out against the school district or after you've made someone angry. The grievance process does have to be followed. You must have access to due process if you feel that your reassignment was retaliatory but remember most cases are only heard if the employee has suffered financially. There is a different standard of reassignment for superintendents. Superintendents cannot be reassigned because their position is considered unique. Reassignment for the superintendent would constitute a material change. With the exception of the superintendent an employee can be reassigned to any position within the district as long as their compensation is not affected.
The next sections discuss employee benefits. Some of these benefits are typical of what you would find in any business situation; the Family Medical Leave Act, health insurance, things such as this. Background: A few months ago, George Floyd died when four Minneapolis police officers were trying to
subdue and arrest him. His death, which was caught on video, raised the now common concerns about
police brutality towards African Americans, and ignited protests, unrest, and debate throughout the country.
Personal and Professional Relevance: Such incidents (the death of Floyd and others) and subsequent
chain of events impact you in two distinct ways:
• As an individual bound by your personal identities, thoughts, values, etc.,
• As a soon-to-be human service professional bound by a professional code of ethics.
While your reactions to these events as an individual are quite likely to be emotional and subjective, it is
essential that as a human service professional you maintain objectivity in understanding and addressing
these events. The primary objective of this project is to develop fundamental skills necessary to advocate

The employment process in the public school system is different than in any other organization. Due process is a requirement of law but in the public school system it is especially important as the public school is a government entity. Due process for educators is limited to the due process for property rights. Judicial law has noted that schools do not typically deprive employees of life or liberty. The important focus in readings this week is how much due process is necessary and how much is recommended by the courts.
There are several different types of employment arrangements within the school system.

· Third-Party Independent Contract
Each employment arrangement has a specific hiring and termination process. This is important to know when dealing with the various positions. When interviewing and selecting staff administrators must understand what employment is available, the requirements in offering positions and the requirements involved in offering positions.
If you work in a state that has unions, much of this information is required per the collective bargaining agreement. If you live in a right to work state, this is much more flexible and determined by the local governing body.
First, reassignment is a very complicated issue. Generally speaking, most teacher and administrator contracts contain a clause that states that you can be assigned or reassigned at the discretion of the superintendent. Courts have found that the only property right that employees have is the right to getting paid, not the right to a specific position. As long as your pay is not changed your position can be changed therefore, many state departments of education will only hear reassignment complaints if an employee has suffered financially.
However reassignment cannot be retaliatory. You can't be reassigned after you have spoken out against the school district or after you've made someone angry. The grievance process does have to be followed. You must have access to due process if you feel that your reassignment was retaliatory but remember most cases are only heard if the employee has suffered financially. There is a different standard of reassignment for superintendents. Superintendents cannot be reassigned because their position is considered unique. Reassignment for the superintendent would constitute a material change. With the exception of the superintendent an employee can be reassigned to any position within the district as long as their compensation is not affected.

Cyberbullying and the First Amendment
All papers should have an introductory paragraph that provides background on the subject you are going to write about in the paper. I recommend finding a current event, perhaps an article where a student committed suicide after having been the target of cyberbullying. A good approach follows this line: Tell them what you are going to tell them (introduction), Tell them (body of paper), and Tell them what you told them (Conclusion). The introduction must contain a thesis statement previewing the paper. An examination of Minford School District’s school board policy as well as the faculty and student handbooks in addition to the relevant sections of the Ohio Revised Code followed by a review of the First Amendment arguments the student who is charged with cyberbullying might make, and the First Amendment responses based on case law the school district could argue, will provide insight into the issue of cyberbullying. (This is just an example off the top of my head). (Another approach for the purpose statement could be: Having been notified that a student in your class has been subjected to bullying through another classmate's Facebook page, a discussion of steps required by (enter your state's name)"s statutes, (enter your school district's name)'s school board policies as well as the student handbook, will provide a basis for examining any First Amendment arguments that the bullying has raised, and a discussion of the school district’s First Amendment argumentative responses consistent with the cases in the assigned readings.)
State Statutes and District Policies on Cyberbullying
Paragraph one should explain how the school district policy that you are examining addresses cyberbullying. You should examine the district’s policy, the faculty handbook, and the student handbook. Make sure that you are correctly providing in-text citations to these sources.
In a separate paragraph, you should examine your state’s laws on cyberbullying. (We looked these up in one of the DQs this week). The question you should answer after reviewing each of the above are what steps that a faculty member should take based on the laws and policies examined. Another issue to examine might be if the policy differentiates between cyberbullying that occurs out of school and cyberbullying that occurs during school. This organization like many has a administration that is responsible for maintaining coordinative activities of the members. B. Boundary
1. Discuss what a boundary is and its role within the social system perspective A boundary connects and divides the system within the environment.
2. Identify your organization’s boundary and reasons why you believe this is a boundary. The organization provides services for the community but in order for you to be able to get any services from Change Happens you have a state identification, driver licenses, or school id. Being that most of the clients are live poverty they may not have any form of identification I believe this may be one boundary that exists.
3. Identify and discuss specific boundary maintenance behaviors that support the boundary you have identified in this organization. One-way boundary maintenance takes place when you first enter the office you can’t gone any further then the front with presenting you identification to the person who works behind the desk then after you have been properly signed in she will let proceed.
C. Suprasystem
1. Discuss what a suprasystem is and its role within the social system perspective. Suprasystem is the environment that exist outside the agency.
2. Identify a minimum of two interactions that are derived from your organization’s suprasystem. Yakes High School and Cueny Homes provide Change Happens with clients that need their serveries.

Natalie got the call she had been waiting for over six long months. Her complaint to the human resources department of Franklin Industries had been dismissed. It was HR’s conclusion that she was not retaliated against for reporting an alleged embezzlement by the Accounting Department manager. In fact, HR ruled there was no embezzlement at all. Natalie had been demoted from assistant manager of the department to staff supervisor seven months ago after informing Stuart Masters, the controller, earlier in 2015, about the embezzlement. Her blood started to boil as she thought about all the pain and agony she’d experienced these past six months without any level of satisfaction for her troubles.
Natalie Garson is a CPA who works for Franklin Industries, a publicly owned company and manufacturer of trusses and other structural components for home builders throughout the United States. Six months ago she filed a complaint with HR after discussing a sensitive matter with her best friend and coworker, Roger Harris. Natalie trusted Harris, who had six years of experience at Franklin. The essence of the discussion was that Natalie was informed by the accounting staff of what appeared to be unusual transactions between Denny King, the department manager, and an outside company no one had never heard of before. The staff had uncovered over $5 million in payments, authorized by King, to Vic Construction. No one could find any documentation about Vic, so the staff dug deeper and discovered that the owner of Vic Construction was Victoria King. Further examination determined that Victoria King and Denny King were siblings.
Once Natalie was convinced there was more to the situation than meets the eye, she informed the internal auditors, who investigated and found that Vic Construction made a $5 million electronic transfer to a separate business owned by Denny King. One thing lead to another, and it was determined by the internal auditors that King had funneled $5 million to Vic Construction, which, at a later date, transferred the money back to King. It was a $5 million embezzlement from Franklin Industries.
Natalie met with Roger Harris that night and told him about the HR decision that went against her. She was concerned whether the internal auditors would act now in light of that decision She knew the culture at Franklin was “don’t rock the boat.” That didn’t matter to her. She was always true to her values and not afraid to act when a wrongdoing had occurred. She felt particularly motivated in this case—it was personal. She felt the need to be vindicated. She hoped Roger would be supportive.

modernized country on Earth, how to pay off debt when you aren’t making enough this year to cover

but I’m also not accustomed to the Indian financial market or its businesses. How is this story relevant

Scope of the Problem
Vaccines have done an excellent job at preventing many diseases, some of which can be deadly if not prevented. When bacteria or viruses enter the body, they immediately begin to attack and multiply, which then causes an infection. The immune system will then fight off the infection and establish antibodies, which will help recognize and fight off the same disease in the future. For this very reason, it has been important for children to be vaccinated at an early age so that they may establish those antibodies their bodies need. Vaccines act as the disease so that the body may produce antibodies, but the good thing is that it won’t cause an infection (CDC, 2017).
There are current policies that mandate vaccinations in the U.S., for example, all children are required to be up to date on their vaccines before beginning school. The problem is that there are many loopholes and exceptions to the rule, whether it’s due to religious reasons or other medical issues. Because of this, there are still many children and adults who have yet to be fully compliant with vaccine requirements

Children are mainly affected by this problem due to parents’ hesitancy for vaccinations. Although law mandates for children to be vaccinated for school enrollment, parents have the option to use exemptions to avoid having their children vaccinated. Currently, medical exemptions are allowed for medical reasons in all states, and it is estimated that one to three percent of children are excused from vaccinations because of these exemptions. Parents have continued to use reasons to avoid vaccinations, for example, the belief that the decline in vaccine-preventable diseases is due to improved health care, hygiene, and sanitation (Ventola, C. L., 2016).
Health disparities among Blacks, Hispanics, and Whites have played a huge role in terms of vaccination coverage. Studies have shown that health insurance has a direct impact on the vaccination coverage in adults, therefore, low-income families who can’t afford health insurance will most likely not get the vaccines they need. Isabella Mia is a physical therapist who is working in the US as a therapist for the last 10 years. I have selected her for the interview because the physical therapist is a tough job and it is important to consider a person who has worked in it for a long time to get the right insights. She is a very dedicated person towards her work and this the reason behind her success in this field. I met her for this interview on a coffee shop and following is the information that I got from her.

Isabella Mia : I believe that this is a very rewarding career. I always wanted to do something that can ease other people and in this profession, we have contact with customers .

SUGGESTED OUTLINE FOR CHANGE MANAGEMENT PAPERS
I. Statement of problem area. In this section, describe the change attempt and the key players.
A. Background of change attempt.
1. Nature of change (What is being proposed?).
In this section, provide an overview of the change including a brief history.
2. Issues (Why is it being proposed?).
If you are writing about a failed change, indicate why it was proposed and how it failed. If you are writing about a proposed change, then describe the problem it is intended to resolve.
3. Change Agent(s). This section is focused on the people who proposed or will propose the change. If there are only a few change agents, you can describe what each on is like. If you are there many, then describe their general characteristics.
4.
A. Personality. What are they like? If you want, you can refer to the personalities I mention in the handout on integrative bargaining.
B. Power. What kind of power do the change agents have and how much? Is their power formal (e.g., authority) and/or or informal (e.g., expertise, chari.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing.
