3. WHAT’S IS MISSING IN THE CLIMATE CRISIS CONVERSATIONS?
•Simplicity versus Complexity. Climate as a system is an interactive
system consisting of five main components: atmosphere, hydrosphere,
cryosphere, soil surface and biosphere, which are influenced by
various external mechanisms, both the sun and various human
(anthropogenic) activities.
•Civic Engagement and Collective Decisions are a contesting battle on
values, trade off and prioritization among key stakeholders and public.
•COVID-19 Blessings: in search of governance: monocentric (UNs,
national governments), polycentric (private, NGOs, academia, sub-
national gov’t, communities, individuals) or what feasible arrangement?
•How we translate a transformational vision of sustainability,
inclusiveness and justice across the political and ecological borders at
all level of governance (global, national, sub- national, communities) to
the key established influential political economic interest?

5. PLANETARY BOUNDARY & TIPPING POINT – 10 YEARS LATTER (2020)
•Human and natural relations continue to be degraded, there is a disconnection in economic
activity. Rochstorm, although still optimistic about the various efforts and commitments by
various non-state actors, especially corporations, remains cautious. What is needed is a
systemic and massive change, especially to what science has already convinced. (IPCC,

•Rockstrom's proposal in #TheGreenRecovery
• Allocate 2 Trillion USD to transform the economy and social towards green which is invested in low
carbon emission development, circular economy, rehabilitation/restoration of natural resources and
the environment.
• Formulate science-based targets policy or intervention scenarios. Maintain Earth's temperature below
2.0 or 1.5 degrees by 2100. There is no other choice in the next decade (2020-2030) before we lose
momentum to turn things around.
•Recovery through a "build back better" narrative should not be just a political narrative. The
real crisis was to be expected from time to time. Now, a critical moment to restore trust and
relationship between nature and humans as two inseparable entities. Not a "trade off" frame
of mind, but development based on the principles of sustainability, inclusiveness and equity,
and is not an temporarily adjustment.
•The dynamics of the interactions are always overshadowed not only by the insufficient data
and information we have, but also with limited knowledge of the interactions between various
factors that often have unexpected consequences.

6. EVIDENCE VS RHETORICAL BASED NARRATIVES:
DEFORESTATION
•Conflict often starts with a problem of definition and methodology
used that gives rise to different diagnoses and conclusions on the
crafting public policies, including driving force, including pressure,
status, impact, response (DPSIR) analysis.
•Deforestation rates and its trajectories can be differ as shown in
Indonesia Forest Status Report (2018), Forest Watch Indonesia and
various other sources.
•Since 1990, the deforestation rate in forest and non-forest areas
ranged from 3 millions to 0.45 million Ha per period measured per
period.
•The results of the Forest Watch Indonesia (FWI) analysis from 2000
to 2017 have shown that the rate of deforestation is still high. In the
2000-2009 period, Indonesia lost 1.4 million ha / year of natural
forest. In the next period (2009-2013), the area of natural forest
lost decreased to 1.1 millions ha/year and again increased in the
2013-2017 period to 1.4 millions ha/year.

7. CLIMATE COMMITMENTS: WHERE IS NON-STATE ACTORS ROLE?
Science based Targets and Scenarios:
1.5 degree Synthesis Report (IPCC, 2018), Planetary Boundary (John Rocktrom, et.al,
2009, 2019), Mora Report on Climate Departure(2013)
Global Agreements:
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, 2015), Paris Agreement (UNFCC, 2015),
Adis Ababa Action Agenda (2015), Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction
(UNSDRR, 2015)
Indonesia Commitments and Challenges:
•Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), 29% and 41% CO2 emission target, Low
Carbon Development Scenarios (Bappenas, 2018- ..), Means of Implementation
(finance, technology, capacity building)
•The challenges of institutional settings are often unable to respond the issues in
systemic way. In fact, it often raises new problems because the approaches of each
institution are not in a coherent way.

8. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: DATA GOVERNANCE, INCLUSION & COLLECTIVE ACTIONS
• Numerous data and information from credible national and
sources and communities are available and can be accessed
widely, including: Global Forest Watch, globalforestwatch.org,
Trase, insights.trase.earth, Google Earth Engine, Crowd-based
marketplace, eofactory.ai, High resolution satellites devoted to
natural resource and environmental monitoring (Norway, Japan)
• The importance to keep the platform opened for the sake of
transparency and accountability that is not only limited to
government institutions but also for various non-state actors
engagement
• Proof of Concept on inclusive policy scenarios exercises (En-
ROADS) and Data Democratization (EOfactory)

9. EN-ROADS AS A PLATFORM TO TEST POLICY SCENARIOS AND INCLUSIVE PARTICIPATION
•En-ROADS (Energy Rapid Overview and Decision-
Support) is a transparent policy simulation model
available for free and online to understand the climate
crisis and its solutions. This model was developed by
Climate Interactive, Ventana Systems, and MIT Sloan.
•It is based on the best available science and has been
calibrated against various Integrated Assessment and
Modeling (IAM) models which are currently used as a
credible reference in climate change studies, its impacts
and various policy elaborations to address it.
•Simulations on various possible scenarios through 18
dynamically influencing factors (oil, coal, renewable
energy, nuclear, buildings, technology, carbon pricing,
bioenergy, deforestation/afforestation, ...)

10. POSSIBLE SCENARIO OF 2.0: AN EXAMPLE
•It’s not sufficient that climate actions only depended
on the government, the contribution is no more than
20%, the rest is very depended on on the role of
non-state actors (private, community, individuals)
•The period 2020-2030 is an important momentum
to reduce global emissions by half (2030), and net
zero in 2050 if we want to keep the earth's
temperature below 2.0/1.5 in 2100.
• Numerous technology options are available at
increasingly competitive prices compared to

11. CROWD BASED GEOSPATIAL ANALYTICS USING EOFACTORY PLATFORM
•Every day Satellite and Drones capture terabytes of
Earth Observation(EO) Data of our changing planet. In
spite of the technological advancements in data
collection, more than 90% of the data is neither
visualized nor analyzed, primarily due to lack of access
to the data and outdated mapping and image analysis
techniques.
•The convergence of Remote Sensing, Machine Learning,
Geospatial Intelligence and Business Intelligence
