GreenBiz 17 Workshop Slides: "Applying Lifecycle Thinking to Zero Waste Goals"GreenBiz Group
For the past twenty-five years, Americans have embraced recycling as an important measurement of environmental performance. The idea that more recycling must be better has spurred the widespread adoption of zero waste goals, developed with the best intentions. However, a focus on recycling as many tons as possible does not always take into account the whole picture of the environmental impact of waste. Join this session to understand how a lifecycle thinking approach can help you develop waste goals and programs for your company that will achieve the greatest environmental benefits and business results.

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING is integrating environmental criteria in the design process of a product-packaging combination. This means that besides the normal criteria, such as: marketing, functional, economic and technical criteria, also environmental criteria are taken into account.
This presentation is based on our experiences in the Network Sustainable Packaging. The Network organized from 2010-2013, ten workshops for different market segments and three general meetings about sustainable packaging in The Netherlands. More than 200 professionals from packaging industry attended this meetings and shared their views and insights.
Designing flexible packaging so it can be easily collected, sorted and recycled is a fundamental of the circular economy. But how does that happen in practice?

Opening up new circular economy trade opportunities: Options for collaboratio...GreenAllianceUK
On Monday 2nd March the Circular Economy Task Force co-hosted a conference with the Dutch Embassy in London on how to promote the trade in circular economy goods and services between the UK and the Netherlands. The Dutch ambassador Laetitia van den Assum welcomed an expert group of business, policy and academia representatives to a discussion organised around three issues: how policy can support a circular economy, how to deliver a ‘North Sea Resource Roundabout’, and what are the circular economy opportunities for plastics?
This presentation comes from The 6th Plasticity Forum – “Designing for the Future – Plastic and the Circular Economy” was held in London as part of the London Design Festival on September 21st, 2016.

A chemicals perspective on designing with sustainable plastics - TarkettOECD Environment
With global plastic production soaring over the last 50 years, it is more urgent than ever to continue developing sustainable plastic products from a chemicals perspective. Our new report “A Chemicals Perspective on Designing with Sustainable Plastics - Goals, Considerations and Trade-offs” and its four supporting case studies (biscuit wrappers, detergent bottles, flooring and insulation) look at the plastic material selection process from a chemicals perspective to enable the creation of inherently sustainable plastic products.
Developed with country delegates, designers, industry stakeholders and NGOs, it will help designers and engineers select sustainable plastic for their products by equipping them with the right knowledge of chemicals.
A webinar to discuss the key findings of the reports took place on 7 December. Watch the video replay below to hear perspectives from countries and industry on the value of the initiative.

In regards to the Automotive industry, H.B. Fuller supports different specifications for both the exterior and the interior automotive structures. Adhesives are in fact present in different components of the automotive exterior and interior trims. Key aspects to consider in automotive adhesive application and performance include: bonding strength, application temperature, versatility to different manufacturing set lines, waste reduction, safety, durability and high performance, even with heat sensitive substrates and on processes where variability may be present.

Circular design strategies for packaging and disposables at festivals
Fast moving consumer goods (FMCGs) do not fit well in the Circular Design “Product That Last” framework. These products, often packaging and disposables, only have a short lifetime, but are still a substantial part of our economy. For that reason a new Framework is being created, called “Products That Flow”.
Learn our insights from CIRCO Tracks with more than 30 organisations working in the FMCG sector and work on next steps for the festival sector.
Three circular cases for festivals will be briefly presented. Statements about the role of the designer in this context will be discussed with the audience and an experienced panel of experts will give feedback.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.
