- 2. The Learners General: 2nd grade, 23 students (15 boys, 8 girls), 12 Caucasian, 7 African American, 2 Chinese. Three are identified with Autism. Students will have a complex understanding of fractions and how to identify them in an everyday setting. Learning styles: Most students are visual learners while the others are kinesthetic.
- 3. Objective Students will understand and show how fractions work in an everyday setting by measuring cups, fraction games, videos, and presentations by the end of the week with 95% accuracy.
- 4. Day by Day Mon: Introduce the meaning of fractions. Discuss with the class what fractions they may already know without knowing it. Tues: introduce fractions and their parts. Listen to the video “Introduction to Fractions”. Wed: Talk about fractions in cooking and sharing. Thurs: Listen to fraction song and work on dividing class into sections and how they add up. Fri: Have kids share what they know from home, to the class, about fractions.
- 5. Use of Technology Smartboard for drawing the fractions and having kids come up to the board to separate the fractions on their own and show YouTube videos from here. Have all materials needed for the unit together and tested out before hand. Bring in different items that they make recognize of using fractions with. Have a run through for myself to make sure everything is in order.
