CI 350 Unit Plan

Analyze the Learner
• General: 3rd Grade Physical Education class, 23
students, 12 girls, 13 boys, (17 Caucasian, 3
Black, 2 Hispanic, and 1 Asian American), 1
student identifies with ADHD.
• Learning Competencies: Students should have a
basic understanding of basic foods/ingredients.
• Learning styles: Students are either visual,
auditory, or hands-on learners.
Objective
• Students will analyze, explain, categorize, and
differ between healthy and unhealthy foods,
through the use of videos, journaling, diagrams
and charts, games, and presentations by the end
of one week with 100% accuracy.
Day by Day Breakdown
• Day 1: Class Discussion on “The 5 Healthy Food Groups”
Teacher led presentation and discussion on healthy foods
and their groups, watch video on “My Plate”
• Day 2: Have students make a food log of what they eat the
rest of the week.
• Day 3: Students will bring in a snack/food from home and
discuss Nutrition Facts in that item.
• Day 4: Students will make their own “My Plate” and
draw/label healthy foods in each category.
• Day 5: Students will play an “active academics” game,
where they perform physical activity while learning healthy
foods.
Use of Technology
• A smartboard and a computer will be used for a
Powerpoint presentation and to present graphs/charts.
• Arts and crafts materials will be used for students to
make their own Food Pyrmaids.
• Food Journals will be made using notecards and key
rings, provided by the instructor.
• Students will bring in their own food items simply for
show and use, the teacher can provide extra if
necessary.
