The story of chocolate
The Aztecs of Mexico knew about chocolate a long time ago .they
made it in to a drink .sometimes they put hot chili peppers with the
chocolate.
They called the drink xocoatl, which means “bitter juice”. This where
does the word chocolate comes from?
The Spanish went to Mexico and took the drink from the land of the
Aztecs back to Spain .the Spanish did not like peppers, so they
added sugar .
they also likes to drink chocolate
hot, and hot chocolate was born.
This drink became very popular in
Europe. People added different
things like eggs to the chocolate
drink.
But everybody’s
favorite was
chocolate milk
instead of water.
There was still no hard chocolate until around 1850 .Then the
British made the first chocolate bar. Twenty five years later, two
men in Switzerland mixed milk with the hard chocolate. Milk
chocolate soon became a favorite all over the world.
Types of chocolate
Dark chocolate
Dark chocolate contains of large amount of cocoa and some cocoa
butter and sugar. Dark chocolate can either be sweet, semi-sweet,
bittersweet or unsweetened.
White chocolate
white chocolate contains no cocoa solids at all .It made from cocoa
butter. White chocolate is made with a high amount of cocoa butter
along with milk solids, real vanilla and sugar.
Milk chocolate
In milk chocolate, some of the cocoa solids are replaced by milk solids
giving it a sweeter taste and smoother, 'creamier' texture.
Contains cocoa butter and sugar, and at least 12% milk (milk, cream,
milk powder, etc).
For hundreds of years ,people thought that chocolate
was good for health .
Doctors told people to have a chocolate drink for
headache and many other problems.
Today ,there is good news for chocolate lovers. Scientists
think that a little bit of chocolate is good for your health.
Eating chocolate is one of the best ways to lower the risks of
developing cancer . Chocolate protect people from the afflicting of
stomach ulcer. It has vitamins to keep the body healthy.
Chocolate protect body from diseases
Dark chocolate is good for your heart. A small bar of it every day can help keep your heart
running well. Two heart health benefits of dark chocolate are:
"1- Lower Blood Pressure: Studies have shown that consuming a small bar of dark
chocolate everyday can reduce blood pressure in individuals with high blood pressure.
"2- Lower Cholesterol: Dark chocolate has also been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol
(the bad cholesterol) by up to 10 percent.
Benefits of chocolate for blood vessels
Chocolate is useful for blood vessels .Consuming dark chocolate and
cocoa improve the function of blood vessels .The flavonoids which
are found in dark chocolate are also known to help the blood flow
more smoothly through blood vessels, as will as increase the
amount of blood that can flow to the brain. The flavanoids in
chocolate may help keep blood vessels elastic.
It contains theobromine, caffeine and other substances which are
stimulants. It tastes good. It stimulates endorphin production, which
gives a feeling of pleasure.
Chocolate has a special chemical called phenylethylamine.
This is the same chemical the body makes when a person is
in love.
