Almost everywhere they can watch the lion dances. People also light firecrackers to welcome the New Year. They believe that lightning the firecrackers will bring good luck on their business. The  oranges represent gold or wealth. So, the oranges will be the main food served to visitors. Lantern Festival is observed on the first full moon in the lunar year, 15th January. During this festival, some of the Chinese eat dumplings. LANTERN FESTIVAL Lantern
TRADITIONAL FOOD TRADITIONAL FOOD
The Chinese serve dumplings during the dragon boat festival and enjoy watching the racing of the dragon boat. The dumplings come in two main shapes (triangular and rectangular) with fillings like meat, groundnuts and beans. RICE DUMPLING
Simple introduction : We usually serve this type of food during the mooncake festival. In the past, mooncakes were round in shape. But now, the mooncake has many types of shapes and even the number of flavours have increased. MOON CAKE
The Chinese serve this type of  sweet rice cake during Chinese New Year. According to legend, the Chinese believe that by eating this traditional food, one can grow taller. Rice cakes are stickier compared to other types of local cakes. RICE CAKE
Rice cake is made from rice flour and red sugar. The rice cake  is specially prepared  for the deity.  Chinese people believe that the deity will come down and visit every house. The sticky rice cake is to cover  the mouth of the deity to prevent the deity from reporting something unpleasant to the Gods.
“ Kampua” is a traditional “foochow” dish. It is cooked with . But now we also can enjoy the kampua cooks with vegetable oil. Ingredients : “ Kampua” noodles, monosodium glutamate(MSG), fried onion oil, soya sauce, meat slices and spring onions. How to cook : First, put some fried onion oil, MSG and soya sauce on the plate. Then, boil the water cook the noodles. After that, take up the noodles, strain and mix with the ingredients on the plate. Serve with meat slices and chopped spring onions. Video clip on how to cook “char kueh teow” ” Fried ‘kueh teow” is a popular Chinese dish and the shape of the noodles is flat. Ingredients : Onion oil, egg, bean sprouts, fish fillets, ‘kueh teow”, vegetables, soya sauce, MSG and pepper. How to cook : First, heat up the onion oil in the frying-pan. After that, crack one or two egg into the frying-pan and fry for a while. Then, the ‘kueh teow’ into the frying-pan  followed by some pepper, bean sprouts, sliced meat, fish fillets, vegetables, MSG and soya sauce. Finally, remove the noodles from the frying-pan. The  fried ‘kueh teow’ is ready to be served. FRIED “Kueh TEOW"
Long time ago, “li ping” was specially made by the mother of the bride to be given to her siblings. But now, we can enjoy this type of traditional food any time. We can buy packed “li ping”. Ingredients : Sugar, groundnut, gingery oil, wheat and oil. "LI PING"
“ Kompia” has a salty taste and is made from flour. It is baked using charcoal which tastes better compared to the modern method of using the electric oven The “kompia” can be eaten with filling (chopped meat) or plain. The traditional way of making “KongPian ” "Kompia"
How many of you know about the Chinese Tea? Chinese Tea can be classified into four types , black tea, red tea, green tea and white tea.  Here, we want to mention about the “puer” tea. “Puer” is a type of green tea. It can be classified into two; fermented by scientific or natural method. Only “puer” tea can be stored up to hundreds of years and if the tea is in good condition, the price of the tea will increase year by year.  “ Puer” tea is alkali. In China, “puer” tea has a history of more than a million years. “Puer” once became the tribute to serve the king. This means that at that time, only the king can consume the tea. TRADITIONAL DANCES
LION DANCE The Lion Dance is usually performed during the Chinese New Year. According to the legend, the lion was the only animal that could chase away an evil creature called the “Nien”. A pair of dancers dance to the beat of the Chinese drums and the clanging of cymbals. They wear a lion costume and mimic the movements of a lion. Video clip on lion dance
The fan dance is usually performed by a group of girls. Each girl holds two fans and uses them to create beautiful  patterns and shapes. FAN DANCE
The “dragon” is a combination of many segments. Under each segment is a rod which is held by a dancer during the performance of the dragon dance.  The dancers behind will follow the movements of the person holding the head of the dragon. DRAGON DANCE Video clip on dragon dance
TRADITIONAL GAMES OR ACTIVITIES
