2. Overview
Overview
 Airline headquartered in the China Eastern Airlines Building, on the
property of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in Changning
District in Shanghai, China.
 Major Chinese airline that operates international, domestic, and
regional routes.
 Its primary hubs are Shanghai Pudong International Airport and
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport; its smaller hubs are
Kunming Changshui International Airport and Xi’an Xianyang
International Airport.
 In terms of passengers carried, it is the second largest airline in China.
 Together with its subsidiary Shanghai Airlines, it became the
fourteenth member of SkyTeam on 21 June 2011.
 Transported 73.08 million passengers (both domestic and
international) with an average load factor of 73%, in 2012.

4. Destinations
Destinations
 China Eastern Airlines has a significant presence on routes to Asia, North
America, and Australia.
 The airline seeks to exploit the domestic market potential as it increases flight
frequencies via Shanghai to other cities in China.
 The airline is also increasing the pace of international expansion by offering
more flights to international destinations.
 It started operations to New York via Shanghai in 2007, making it the biggest
non-stop route for the carrier.
 On 22 November 2013, China Eastern Airlines began seasonal flights twice a
week on the route between Shanghai and Brisbane, even though these
flights did not resume until 2010/2011; the airline instead operated charters to
Cairns.
 China Eastern began services from Shanghai to Honolulu on 9 August 2011;
this was the first ever direct service between continental China and Hawaii.

 Apart from its fellow SkyTeam members, China Eastern Airlines,
as of January 2013, has codeshare agreements with these

6. Fleet
 China Eastern Airlines was the first Chinese airline to acquire the Airbus.
 The A320 series, used mostly on flights within China, is the fleet’s strength.
 China Eastern Airlines ordered fifteen Boeing 787 Dreamliners in 2005, but due to constant delays, the airline later withdrew its order; it
instead ordered Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft.
 China Eastern Airlines also ordered fifteen Airbus A330 on 18 October 2011.
 China Eastern Airlines ordered twenty Boeing 777-300ERs from Boeing on 27 April 2012 (awaiting governmental approval).
 Some of these aircraft will replace the fleet of five Airbus A340-600s, which are due to be retired by 2015.

8. Eastern Miles
Eastern Miles
 Eastern Miles is the frequent-flyer program of China Eastern Airlines; China
Eastern’s subsidiary, Shanghai Airlines, is also part of this program.
 Registration for Eastern Miles is free of charge.
 Members of Eastern Miles can obtain miles on flights and through
consumption with China Eastern’s credit card.
 Members can be upgraded to VIP when enough miles are acquired.
 VIP membership of Eastern Miles can be divided into these two levels:
Golden Card membership and Silver Card membership.
 VIP membership is entitled to extra privileged services.

9. Cargo
Cargo
 After it merged with Shanghai Airlines, China Eastern Airlines
indicated that it would also combine the two carriers’ cargo
subsidiaries.
 The new subsidiary cargo carrier of China Eastern, made up of the
profits of China Cargo Airlines, Great Wall Airlines, and Shanghai
Airlines Cargo, began operations in 2011via its Shanghai base, the
biggest air cargo market in China.
 China Eastern Airlines signed a strategic co-operation charter
contract with Shanghai Airport Group, which regulates both
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Pudong
International Airport.
 The airline will distribute more capacity to Pudong Airport to allow
for international routes and increase flight frequencies on current
international and domestic trunk routes.

10. China Cargo Airlines
China Cargo Airlines
 China Cargo Airlines, China Eastern Airline’s cargo subsidiary, is
China’s first all-cargo airline that operates dedicated cargo services
with China Cargo Airlines’ route structure.
 The cargo airline uses the same logo as China Eastern Airlines.
