About Air China
Today’s Air China can trace its origins from 1980s when Air China International Corporation
was established in 1988. An industry reform plan was formulated by the central government
of China in October 2002 which brought Air China International Corporation, China Aviation
Corporation and China Southwest Airlines together, and the company was still called Air
China International Corporation. Air China International Corporation was rebranded as Air
China Limited back in September 2004.
2. Air China: Destinations
Air China's route network extends from
Asia to the Middle East, Western Europe,
and North America from its hubs at Beijing
Capital International Airport and Chengdu
Shuangliu International Airport.
Air China currently reaches a significant
number of Asian, Australian and European
destinations from Shanghai. Some of the
international routes operate from Chengdu,
Chongqing, Dalian, Hangzhou, Kunming and
Xiamen. Air China is one of the few world
airlines that fly to all six habitable
continents.
Air China: History
• It was in July, 1988 when Air China
commenced operations in
accordance with the Chinese
government decision in late 1987 to
split the operating divisions of Civil
Aviation Administration of
China (CAAC Airlines) into six
separate airlines which were, Air
China, China Eastern, China
Southern, China Northern, China
Southwest, and China Northwest.
• Air China took over the CAAC's long
haul aircraft (Boeing 747s, 767s,
and 707s) and routes and was given
chief responsibility for
intercontinental flights.
• It was on 15 December 2004 when
Air China was successfully listed on
the Hong Kong and London Stock
Exchanges. Air China signed an
agreement to join the Star Alliance in
2006 and became a member of the
alliance on 12 December 2007
alongside Shanghai Airlines.
