This document describes how to make an inexpensive white pigment called barium white through a precipitation reaction. A saturated solution of sodium sulfate is mixed with a saturated solution of barium chloride, which forms a fine white precipitate of barium sulfate. The barium sulfate precipitate is then separated from the excess liquid through a process of filtration and evaporation, leaving behind the pure white solid pigment.
