Temple Grandin Reflection
This film was based on a real person, Temple Grandin, who be diagnosed with autism when she
was four years old. Temple s mom worked very hard to teach her language, basic living and
social skills; and she be sent to schools to receive an education like other children. One of her
high school teachers, Dr. Carlock, not only taught Temple science knowledge, but also guided
Temple to view herself more positively. He taught Temple to view changes in her life as
different doors, and all she needs to do is go through. Temple kept using that measure when she
faced challenges. Before she went to university, Temple found out she like to work with animals
in her aunt s farm. She also tried to use a machine, which farmers used to calm cows, to help
herself relax. Later, when she felt stressful in university, she built a similar machine to calm
herself. In order to keep and use that machine in her room, Temple created her own science
experiment which proved that her machine could benefit other people. She also made friend with
her roommate. After graduated from university, Temple continued to engage in animal research.
She completed her master degree, and designed facilities for feedlots and slaughterhouses. When
she visited national meeting with her mom in 1981, Temple made public speech and shared her
personal experiences with others. The story in this film goes through the end of the asylum era
(between the 1870s to the 1960s), and parts of the post asylum era in history (2). In the

Head Injury Case Study
Do not write this assignment as question/answer. Put everything together as one complete essay.
Your brain sits in your skull and is surrounded by cerebral fluid. When a head injury occurs, the
brain may collide with the skull, then bounce back and collide with the opposite side of the skull.
At the neuronal level, blow strong enough to create a concussion has the effect of twisting or
stretching of the axons, which in turn creates swelling. In many cases, the swelling will subside
and the neuron may return to normal. However, if the swelling of the axon is severe enough, the
axon may break down and can cause permanent damage. Many athletes will experience multiple
concussions over the course of their career. Recently the NFL has stated it expects 1 in 3 former
players will develop long term cognitive issues. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, his brain has hit the back of his skull, then the front. Answer the following questions:
1. Name at least four specific brain structures {not just the lobes/cortexes} that would likely be
affected. Why do you think these structures are at risk for damage in a hit like the one described
above?
2. What are the functions of these four structures?
3. Based on the functions of the brain areas you identified above, what temporary symptoms would
you expect to see as result from trauma to these brain areas and why?
4. Since football players are at risk for experiencing multiple concussions during their lifetime,
what type of long term issues would you expect to see from more permanent damage to the brain
areas you identified above and why?
5. Based on what you have written, what type of regulations would you recommend for how soon a
player (of any sport) can return after a concussion?
6. Would you allow your own child to participate in contact sports? Why or why

Early settlement of Germans was mainly in South Australia and South Eastern Queensland.
There was significant migration during the gold rush in Victoria in the 1850s when approximately
10,000 German migrants came to work the in the gold fields.
Germans were also employed in many other roles including; in copper mines and smelters,
silversmithing, winemaking and in weaving woolen cloth.
The World Wars heavily impacted German migration to Australia.

Being a Chef is one of those professions that people love to dream about, a lot of people think that
being a chef means that you only cook all day. Wrong! As a matter of fact they cook, clean, run the
kitchen, and tell the other cooks what to do. The life of a cook is way more work than you
think. Yes cooking is what they love to do but it only takes some of their day. The other parts of
their day is preparing, ordering ingredients, setting prices and checking stock. They work very
long hours and have little time for relaxing. The life of a chef is not for everyone but those who do
it love it. The source I feel this very good because it shows the ups and downs of being a chef.

A Research Study On Nutrient Agar
The first patient, 18 year old female presented with symptoms of high fever, vomiting, diarrhoea,
myalgia, hypotension and signs of septic shock. In order to identify possible bacteria responsible
for these symptoms, a vaginal swab was sampled, incubated on agar overnight and stored at 4C,
after which they were examined throughout a series of microbiological tests. The initial culturing
of the sample on nutrient agar indicated two organisms were present, and hence these were
analysed individually. A Gram stain was applied to each bacterium and they were viewed
individually under microscope at 1000x oil immersion magnification. This specified both Gram
negative diplobacilli, which will be referred to as organism one, and Gram positive staphylococci,
which will be referred to as organism two. Organism one demonstrated irregular, flat, wavy,
medium sized and cream coloured colony morphology when viewed on agar plate, however limited
conclusive data can be obtained from these observations alone. In order to provide further
information for diagnosis, additional culturing was conducted on a range of selective and
differential media types including Horse Blood, MacConkey, Mannitol Salt and Brilliant
chromogenic UTI agar s. This demonstrated the organism was non haemolytic, lactose fermenting,
as evident through a red colony formation on the MacConkey agar, and unable to survive in high
salt concentrations, as indicated through the lack of growth on Mannitol Salt agar. The

American Short Fiction And World Story By Alan Cheuse Essay
The article American Short Fiction and World Story by Alan Cheuse compares the old tales to the
modern short story. To start the article he talks about the old type of stories by famous writer
Homer. Here talks about how these books are written by the culture of the time. With that being
said, he makes the assumption that the old time tales are only applicable to the time in history they
were written. This is pretty obvious because in today s world we rarely see the events that
happened in such ages. Next after talking about the period before modernism he starts to
contemplate the creation of the modern short story. Here he makes a surprising claim, where he
says that the modern story actually started in the United States with the famous poet Edgar Allen
Poe. This is surprising to many because in the literature world most people associate modernism
with European writers such as Chekov and Flaubert. He actually states the this modern sense of
writing started in North America, then went to Europe and finally arrived to the res of the world
including North America again. So we are left to ask, what is the modern short story like? Well,
Alan Cheuse compares the modern short story to the art story. He says the perfectionists of it such
as Hemmingway; owe their credit to writers like Poe because he in fact started it. The art story is
a story that is written and can be applicable to any situation within real life. That is Alan Cheuse
argument, and main ide of the whole article.

The Maze Runner Percy Jackson Similarities
In the movie The Maze Runner Series the main character Thomas is very much like the main
character Percy in the Percy Jackson Series. Is that just a coincidence or are they somehow
connected? Percy Jackson is related to greek mythology and there is a minotaur which is a head of
a bull body of man who lives in a labyrinthand tries to harm people. In The Maze Runnerit does not
directly link to greek mythologyhowever there is a monster who lives in the maze called grievers
and they try to harm everyone they come in contact with. Could the griever and minotaur connect
the two movies?
Thomas and Percy have very similar personalities and this is another reason i believe the two
movies may be linked together. One reason i believe this is because

The Impact of Globalisation on the Australian Economy
The Impact of Globalisation on the Australian Economy Globalisation is not new. Australia has
been involved in trade, investment, financial flows, technology transfers and the migration of
labour since its foundation as a colony. What has changed is the size, direction and influence of
these transfers, especially since 1980. There are a number of factors that have aided this
transformation. They include: В•The expansion of new markets В– foreign exchange and capital
markets are linked globally. They operate 24 hours a day with dealings any where in the world
possible in real time. Financial deregulation and the floating of the Australian dollar since 1983
intensified the impact of globalisation on the Australian economy. В•New... Show more content on

Table 1: The Effects of Cutting Protection in Manufacturing in Australia Source: Productivity
Commission The impact of globalisation has also changed the structure of Australia s trade.
There has been considerable growth in manufacturing and service industries with limited growth
in the rural sector (Table 2). This reflects a combination of changes in world demand and
domestic structural reforms. Table 2: Annual Growth in Exports, by Sector, 1985 86 to 1995 96.
Source: Australian Bureau of Statistics, 5368.0 Globalisation and Financial Markets The spread of
globalisation especially since 1990 has introduced many new elements into the financial markets
and what determines the value of a nation s exchange rate. This does not just apply to Australia,
but as we saw in the later half of the 1990 s, to many other nations in the world. Firstly, trade in
goods and services makes up a much smaller proportion of the demand and supply for currency. In
the world economy, payments for international trade only account for about 1% of foreign
exchange transactions. The total foreign exchange requirements for exporting and importing of
goods and services in Australia is less than 3% of the total use of the foreign exchange turnover in
Australian dollars (Reserve Bank Bulletin, Table F7 and Australian National Accounts, 5206.0). The
main purpose for foreign exchange trading is international financial transfers of

`` No Country For Old Men `` By Cormac Mccarthy
Cormac McCarthy wrote a novel by the name of No Country for Old Men in 2005 which was
created into a movie of the same name in 2007. The film adaptation represents both continuity
within the film noir styles and also breaks away from them in relation to films such as The
Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep and The Killers . In the film there are multiple characters that are
hard boiled and each try to figure out who did what and what happened for their own individual
reasons. This characterization and the actions done by the main characters are remnant of film noir
styles. In film noir, the main character is usually hard boiled by showing no emotionand does the
task at hand of finding out the unanswered questions; usually being portrayed as a detective. This
differs though from past styles as in the film there are many hard boiled characters and not just one
that is considered the stronger character, the detective, who is above the others who are subjective
to emotion. The portrayal of the hard boiled character has transitioned away from the traditional
representation of the detective.
In film noir there are various components that are needed in order to place a film within the genre,
such as the established archetype of the hard boiled character. In most film noir, this character is
usually a male detective that tries to find a killer while trying to fight off the evil around him.
Typically this character shows no outward emotion and is seemed to be as the strong

What I Learned When I Get A Traffic Ticket
September 9, 2015 was the first time I have ever gotten a ticket. It happened when I was in junior
college in Arizona. A lesson I learned is that speeding turns into going to court. My court date
was set for November 4th which was a Wednesday. I remember waking up that morning and
thinking to myself, What the hell did I just get myself into? I was so nervous that before I left
Arizona Western Community College to head to the Yuma Municipal Court, I went to my
bathroom and threw my guts out. Yes, I know it s only a traffic ticket but I have never been to
court in my whole life. So the drive over to the court was probably the longest drive ever. It felt
like when I drive from Ashland to Portland. My Aunty Donna who was the Poly mom for all the
polynesian boys who played football at Arizona Western brought me something to eat so I didn t
pass out in court. Even after she brought me Mcdonald s, I was still feeling a bit groggy but I just
said to myself that I am a man and I will face the consequences that I am given. For some reason I
thoughtI was going to jail for a couple of days and Donna was telling me the whole time, STOP you
are not going to jail for a traffic ticket! Yes, as silly as I sound thinking I was going to jail for a
traffic ticket, it was all surreal and I was so scared and nervous. When I got to Yuma Municipal
Court I walked in and saw the metal detectors. I was thinking to myself that the only place I have
seen these things was in the airport right

The King s Speech, By Prince Albert, The Duke Of York
At the beginning of the movie, The King s Speech, Prince Albert, the Duke of York, also known as
Bertie , was giving a speech and stammering throughout the entire presentation. Throughout his
lifetime, Prince Albert claimed that he had always had a stuttering problem and did not have
progress or success with a variety of treatments. His wife, Elizabeth, persuades PrinceAlbert to visit
a speech therapist that she had met. In the beginning of the movie, he did not want to meet the
therapist because he had ineffective treatments. Finally, Elizabeth persuaded Prince Albert to visit
and meet Lionel Logue. Elizabeth takes the Prince to meet Lionel, in which the speech therapist
claimed that he could have Bertie reading a paragraph without any hesitation in that specific
moment. Lionel put headphones on Bertie, and played music through the headphones so he
could not hear himself speak. As he was reading the paragraph from Hamlet, Lionel had recorded
his speech and claimed the Prince did very well; however, the Prince thought that he was
stuttering and did not want to listen to the recording. Lionel gave the Prince the recording as he
left in a hurry. Little did the Duke of York know, this was the beginning of successful speech
therapy and a friendship. After King George V dies, the next heir to the throne was David, Bertie s
older brother. Because his brother falls in love with an American woman who had been divorced,
he could not take the throne because this is

Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address
Throughout the semester, the readers have been clashing with each other over which label best fits
the author, but they have ignored the minute particulars. These readers are looking at the forest as a
broad generalization, and they are missing out on what the forest really is... a bunch of trees. All of
these trees are diverse but similar: they are American authors, and the forest is American literature.
One might think that this is a flimsy analogy, but it is the most apt and succinct way of explaining
this issue. To truly understand any text, one must couch it within historical context; to be valid, an
interpretation has to make sense within the historical context, and it has to agree with the minute
particulars of the text. If either of these criterion are not met, then the interpretation will not be
representative of the text whatsoever. It is imperative that one pay heed to the minute particulars
and the text s historical context: otherwise, the text will be vastly misinterpreted and
misrepresented in any discussion of the text. The students grossly mischaracterized Abraham
Lincolns Gettysburg Address as a pro abolitionist tract; they also seemed to think that President
Lincoln was some divine martyr for anti slavery sentiment, and that he was an exemplary person
with regards to American identity. They could not be further from the truth. Historical context is
paramount to understanding Lincoln s Gettysburg Address . The text starts off with an appeal to

when he became the mayor in 1998, to achieve his mission he and his team came up with some
strategies and restructuring which are discussed in the paper. Introduction: Mayor Paul Schell
was committed to end the homelessness problems in Seattle. He requested the city council to
provide him adequate support in his pursuit to end the homelessness of children, women and
families. In 1998 in his press conference he mentioned his desire to satisfy the needs of the
homeless children, women and families. He knew that he required emergency assistance. K.

homelessness will end by Christmas and to assist him Alan Painter, the director of the service of
the community division, held a key role in the planning and strategy formulation. (K. Oldham,
1999) He collaborated with the Mayor to address this issue however he was deeply concerned that
the complete focus on homeless people by the Mayor would affect the other issues which would be
neglected as a result. Policy Choices: Making policy in such a dynamic

Beach Erosion in Southern California
Beach erosion is a serious issue today especially with human civilization building cities near the
coast and disrupting the natural distribution of sediment deposition for our own convenience.
Especially in southern California, beach erosion has some serious social, economic and
environmental impacts on our society as a whole. Along with the rise of our sea levels due to
global warming melting our polar ice caps, this erosionis having profound effects on coastal
societies and has damaging effects on infrastructure worldwide. With human ingenuity, we have
come up with various methods such as hard and soft engineering in order to both prevent and
mitigate the effects of beach erosion.
Introduction
There are 2 types of beaches. One is erosion dominant and the other is deposition dominant. The
erosion dominant one has more erosion than deposition so the beaches shrink.
In the other case, if there is more deposition than erosion, then the beaches grow due to more sand
being deposited upon it. The only reason why beaches shrink is due to erosion and this can
happen for a variety of reasons. One reason being that if a shore tends to receive more destructive
waves than constructive waves, then the beach will erode over time. This is because destructive
waves erode and constructive waves deposit sediment. A very relevant example is that the beaches
in southern California are naturally shrinking right now because they aren t receiving enough
sediment from the San

What If Apple Is Wrong By Brian Bergstein Analysis
In his article, What If Apple is Wrong, technology journalist for MIT Brian Bergstein questions
the decisions tech giant Apple made after refusing to give the FBI a backdoor into iPhones data.
In April of this year, Apple refused the FBI s request to open up the iPhone of Syed Rizwan
Farook, who shot and killed 14 people in San Bernadino, California. Bergstein opens by relating
the story of Devon Godfrey, who was shot in 2010. After using security camera footage to wrongly
arrest the suspect on charge of murder, Godfrey s iPhonerevealed that the murderer was someone
entirely different. Using this as a springboard for his line of questioning, Bergstein ponders whether
the case would have been solved without access to victim s iPhone.... Show more content on

He first points out that since their release, iPhones have replaced a lot of the evidence that was used
in the past, such as cameras and notepads. Logically, this would mean that investigations are more
difficult than they were in the past, because investigators have lost sources of evidence. This also
supports the argument that authorities should have access to iPhones, because everything on them
were accessible in different forms in the past. Bergstein then attempts to strengthen his argument by
using the opinions of other important figures. First, he quotes Cyrus VanceJr., the District Attorney
in Manhattan, who thinks the federal government should pass a law that would require the makers
of smartphone operating systems to be able to give data to investigators. Bergstein wants the
reader to see that someone with a lot of experience in the matter, shares his opinion. I think this
also hurts his argument slightly, in that he picked a person with an obvious bias towards his cause.
Bergstein himself recognizes this, and so he brings in another authority figure s opinion: Apple s
CEO, Tim Cook. According to Bergstein, Tim Cook conceded that smartphones could impede
justice. I think it was an intelligent decision to balance the source of opinions he included in his
article, and although the reader knows Tim Cook disagrees overall that smartphones should be
accessible by government officials, he does agree that Bergstein and Vance have a

What Was The Purpose Of Mansa Musa Dbq
What was the purpose of Mansa Musa s hajj? The ancient kingdom of Mali was located in West
Africa, and Mansa Musa ruled there from 1312 1337. Mansa Musa was an intelligent ruler. In
order to organize and protect his empire, he divided the empire into provinces that had a governor,
and maintained a large army to ensure safety. The purpose of the hajj was that, ...Mecca was an
important duty of Islam, (Background). For the hajj, Mansa Musa had to make two crossings of
the Sahara, which was very large and dry. Mansa Musa s hajj was motivated to some extent by
religion, but also by secular reasons such as social motives and most importantly economic
purposes. Being one of the five pillars of Islam, the hajj is something that is religious, and... Show

Document A shows that Mansa Musa brought approximately 24,000 pounds of gold and
musicians, royal guard, flag bearers, doctors, and teachers in caravans. A reason why Mansa
Musa brought many different types of people with him is because he traveled a large section of
land, bringing people with different specialties could have given him an advantage when he
visited different types of land. He could show different areas how great his city was and services
could have been given in return for Mansa Musa s crew. To add on, Document B shows the trade
route that Mansa Musa most likely took on his journey. When looked at, it intersects many trade
routes. At the intersection he could have traded goods that his kingdom could not obtain, which
is good for his kingdom s economy. Using the gold that he had, if he did not have any goods left,
he could have given gold in return. Likewise, Mansa Musa followed existing trade routes, so he
knew that the trade route existed and chose to take it. Past kings could have came back with
special goods and made Mali grow, which is something that he would have wanted to gain
power. Correspondingly, in Document E, Al Umari states, ...This has been the state of affairs for
about twelve years until this day by reason of the large amount of gold which they brought into
Egypt and spent there. Al Umari was talking about Egypt, and Egypt was where Mansa Musa
crossed on the way to Mecca. Mansa Musa spent most of his gold, left many gifts, and people
made many profits out of him. This shows another reason why Mansa Musa brought much gold.
He most likely wanted to help Egyptians and show Egyptians that he is the best and whenever he
visits again or needs help; Egyptians should come and get him. The economic benefit of this would
be that when the Egyptians would come with anything that Mansa Musa needs, Egyptians would
see Mansa Musa s kingdom and initiate trade to help the

Tony Kaye s Use Of Some Important Film Techniques In A Film
Tony Kaye has used many film techniques to successfully express his purpose of each scene to
us the audience. Another important film technique that Tony Kaye utilizes is Mise en scene as
it is used to describe the design aspects of the film and allows us to analyze everything in one
scene. One scene that perfectly fits these details is the memorable police scene when Derek
surrenders to the police and gets taken into custody. We see Dereks tattoo and the signs at the
back clearly in this scene. What to take into account from the scene is when the Cop
coincidentally put his hand over Derek s Swastika tattoo on his right breast while he is being
arrested. A mid shot is used to show Derek s body waist upwards when he was surrendering from the

Jane Eyre And Great Expectations
Jane Eyre Great Expectations Comparative Essay
The novels Jane Eyre and Great Expectations both take place in a capitalist society. Marx s
fundamental ideas are prevalent in both novels. Karl Marx is a German philosopher who
challenged capitalism with the creation of communism. Marx s most essential and recognized
beliefs are that class creates conflict, modern work is alienating, and class struggle is at the heart
of the society. He also believes that individuals affected by capitalism are often rugged, which he
describes as putting self interest above the needs of the community. (Tyson 60). In Jane Eyre, Jane
questions other characters beliefs on Marxism throughout the novel. In Great Expectations,
characters challenge Pip on his Marxist beliefs. Therefore, throughout the use of interclass
relationships, classism and rugged individualism, readers are able to observe how Jane challenges
others Marxist beliefs and other characters challenge Pip s Marxist beliefs.
In the novel Jane Eyre, we re able to see how interclass relationships of all kinds were frowned
upon within society. Jane is in love with her master, Mr. Rochester who comes from a much higher
social class than her. though rank and wealth sever us widely, I have something in my brain and
heart, in my blood and nerves, that assimilates me mentally to him . (BrontГ« 332) Marx s idea

The Death Of The Black Death In Europe
The Black Death spread throughout Europe producing one of the deadliest and most
widespread pandemics in history. This disease arrived in Europe, in October 1347, as 12
Genoese ships docked in hope to trade silk and spices. As the town s people gathered on the
docks to greet these ships after their long journey across the Black Sea, they encountered an
unimaginable surprise! Upon the ships most of the sailors were dead. Individuals described these
sailors as being covered with mysterious black boils that oozed blood and pus ( Black Death). These
ships intending to trade instead passed a new disease, thus the illness of the Black Death was
born. The plague continued to spread quickly across Europe as these trade ships traveled to vast
regions including China, India, Persia, Syria and Egypt. The plague is an illness cause by the
bacteria strain Yersinia pestis. This particular bacteria strain is known to live within wild rodents
especially rats. This disease was transmitted to humans when fleas began to feed upon the blood of
infected rats. A toxin produced by Yersinia pestis left the fleas unable to digest the rat blood. This
inability to digest the blood left the fleas to vomit infected rat blood into the human bloodstream
thus transmitting the plague to humans. The plague is now categorized into three basic types
including Bubonic, Septicemic and Pneumonic. The plague has severe symptoms including, fever,
chills, headaches, swollen painful lymph nodes, bleeding,

Rick Riordan Quotes
Rick Riordan is a person that is known to have strong words in many of his novels about
adventure. As he has shown in his books, anyone can do anything that they put their mind to.
The quote I made Percy Jackson ADHD as a way to show my respect to those who are, is very
important. This is very important because it shows that Rick believes in many people. Also, he
shows that in his novels, the demigod s are going on numerous quests in hopes of survival. Then,
Mr.Riordan is also showing that he believes in the characters, even if they are dyslexic and
disabled . He is showing that he acknowledges that others can t judge someone just because
someone is different. He also seems to connect this to another quote, a quote that greatly connects
to me, Stars can t shine without darkness, by Anonymous because most of the people in his stories

Ambiguity In Emily Bronte s Remembrance
In the poem Remembrance, Emily Bronte writes about a person who mourns the death of a loved
one. Since no names are explicitly given, however, ambiguity surrounds the identity of the speaker
and loved one. One interpretation is that the persona is Bronte herself, having lost her mother and
sisters at a young age. Another interpretation is that the persona is simply a figure through which
Bronte expresses the general experiences of love, loss, and memory. However, after reading the
poem, it is hard to imagine someone crafting such a powerful piece without having personally
experienced something similar. Nevertheless, throughout the poem, the speaker experiences tension
between letting go of and holding onto memories of the past, as shown through... Show more

In the first half of the poem, the speaker mainly seems to be in mourning. However, in the sixth
stanza, the speaker suddenly shifts her tone, focusing on how she has grown from the painful
experience. In fact, the speaker claims to have learned to appreciate life without the aid of joy
(24), which suggests a greater will to live and be present mentally and physically. Despite her
claims, however, in the final stanza, the speaker acknowledges the rapturous pain of remembering
and ends the poem with a rhetorical question: How could I seek the empty world again? (32). This
question seems to resolve the tension between forgetting and remembering by insinuating that she
would rather live with the memories of the past, where she finds

Meeting the Customer s requirements is a tough challenge as the requirements of customer are like

end of the day if customer s expectation is met and the customer is satisfied with the product, we
could say that quality has been achieved.

The second type of communication in this scenario is operational communication. This involves
communicating about the progress of the project; passing information about its development and if
there are any changes in priorities. During this stage, my customer (guide) was regularly informed
about my progress. He would then suggest particulars that increased the overall quality of my work

Through such communication, my project was successfully completed on time in the way my

Management Models Of Management Model
Management is the activity of getting things done with the aid of people and other resources
(Boddy, 1998). Today, organizations around the globe rely heavily on management to ensure
effective and efficient business. A wide variety of management models exist in order to
accommodate different business needs. This essay will briefly discuss various managementmodels,
but will mainly focus on the Competing Values Framework (CVF) and current examples
demonstrating two models within the CVF. A simple search in Google or a quick browse through
the library proves that vast models of management exist. Joan Magretta, author of What

135). The final model within the CVF is internal process. This model is similar to the rational goals
model, but its main focus is on consolidation and continuity within the company (Boddy, 1998).
Max Weber played a large role in the development of bureaucratic management within this model.
Bureaucratic administration allows businesses to thrive in terms of precision, continuity, unity,
and the reduction of material and personal costs, according to Weber (Weber, 1978). Though
each of these models is crucial to the CVF, the remainder of this essay will focus on comparing
and contrasting only the open systems model and internal process model. Internal process and
open system models are located diagonally from each other on the CVF diagram. That being said,
many differences exist between the two models; however, the basic management goal is similar.
These two models will be analyzed based on the framework shown in diagram B. Contemporary
examples, mainly Haier Power and Deloitte, but also Google and McDonalds, will exemplify each
model. It is important to note that many companies don t strictly follow one model. Companies
may follow certain characteristics of one model and other characteristics of another model. Every
company, regardless the model of management followed, expects management to add value to the
company. This is illustrated through financial statements. The 2013 financial statements for

Walt Whitman s Influence On Transcendentalism
Transcendentalism was a literary and philosophical movement that rejected materialism and the

The Importance of Social Media to Activism Essay
Lindsey Brown Professor Daren Dean English 2000 22 March 2013 You Cannot Ignore the
Importance of Social Media According to Dictionary.reference.com, activism is the policy or
action of using campaigning to bring about political or social change. A huge campaign that is
well known across the world, the Civil Rights Movement, was brought about by Martin Luther

Another drawback is the potential to cause riots or outbreaks in a school, town, or even a
country. The countless amount of bullying that happens on social networks is evidence that if
social media participants are not careful about what they post on their social media pages and on
the Internet for public viewing, it can possibly trigger bias or prejudice judgments. Social
networking sites began to become popular in 2002 and although still in their youth, it has many
disadvantages that should not be overlooked. People should not have to be worried about what
they put on social networks because as Americans, we have freedom of speech. Thus it is
reasonable for people to be skeptical and oppose social media when runs the risk of being
counterproductive. No matter how much potential social media has for political or societal change
it is important to criticize its negative aspects. An article written by Andrea Moncada, begins her
argument with the question has social media had the same impact on advocacy. Similar to Gladwell
s points of view, Moncada states, social media can help get the word around, but participants must
be united by a core message and traditional methods... This source of uncertainty is the basis for its
support and is understandable. In addition to the fraudulent issue and the disadvantages it presents;

Analysis Of The Middle Passage Passage
Stolen from Africa, brought to America, fighting on arrival, fighting for survival. I have sung
along to this Bob Marley lyrics for years without recognizing how much power and truth his
words represent (Bob Marley, 2017). Slaves were treated like animals and owners had no
disregard for their lives, working them from birth to death. Not all slaves believed that their fate
was set in stone, those brave few found ways to resist. The Middle Passage voyage that African
slaves were subjected to was immensely dehumanizing. Before boarding the boats, slaves were
examined by surgeons, branded and held in a holding pen until the slave ships arrived. These ships
were nicknamed floating tombs because of the deaths that occurred during the voyage ( Atlantic
Slave Trade). These boats were cramped, overcrowded and unsanitary. The male slaves were kept
nude to try and embarrass them and they were made to dance as a form of exercise. In addition,
food portions were very sparse and infrequent (Dr. Godshalk s Presentation on the Atlantic Slave
Trade).
Slaves attempted to resist the mistreatment and dehumanizing, but the slave traders were often a
step ahead and attempts to resist resulted in the slave s death. One way in which the slaves tried
to resist was by refusing to eat and drink in an effort to starve themselves. The slave traders had a
tool called the Speculum Oris that was used to hold the slaves mouths open (Dr. Godshalk s
Presentation on the Atlantic Slave Trade).

What is Didgeridoo? The didgeridoo also known as didjerido is an Australian Aboriginal wind
instrument in the form of a long wooden tube. Traditionally made from a hollow branch. This
instrument is blown to produce a deep and resonant sound. Its varied by rhythmic accents of
volume and timbre. Some believe the Australian Aborigine has been using the didgeridoofor over
40,000 years, the oldest records of Aborigines playing the didgeridoo date back 2000 years in the

functional than musical. The didgeridoo s instruments family are brass, and wind. The related
instruments are post horn, trumpet, buggle, and cornet. Originally, didgeridoo was just played as
an accompaniment instrument for dancing and singing ceremony. But it was also commonly

The Impact Of MTR Station And Its Impact On The Community
2. Impact of MTR Stations
Each district is different in terms of their physical settings, environment and population. Due to the
different urban context, MTR stations have different impacts on the community of those districts.
However there are some general and common benefits that it brings to the community, especially in
terms of economy and the urban upgrading of districts.
2.1. Economy
It is an undeniable fact that MTR enhances the productive potential of the economy. It does not
only allow the public to make cross boundary trips, such as from Kowloon side to Hong Kong
Island side, but also helps alleviate congestion on the ground due to higher demand for railway. It
also improves the accessibility for people to reach their work on time easily, raising their
productivity. One of the notable economic benefits is saving traveling time. During peak hours, the
traffic congestion problem from Hung Hom to Yau Ma Tei is unbearable, causing delays and
making people late for work. Besides, waiting in traffic consumes more fuel, which costs individuals
higher fuel consumption cost. Hence MTR can help alleviate these problems and thus benefit the
economy.

James Earl Carter Jr. also known as Jimmy, was born in Plains, Georgia on October 1, 1924. His
mother Bessie Lillian Gordy was a trained nurse and his dad James Earl Carter, was a farmer,
entrepreneur, and a landowner. He lived in Plains for the first four years of his life, a little after his
fourth birthday he and his familymoved to a small town called Archery. There the Carter family
owned a 350 acre farm, a warehouse and a grocery store. Jimmy was a very well behaved child
seldom left home, he was always helping his parents on the farm or in the warehouse. Jimmy s
life with his two siblings, Gloria and Ruth, was very strict. They were to always help their
parents on the farm or in the warehouse and grocery store. They belonged to a Baptist church that
had over 300 members. Even though Jimmy s parents were very religious, Lillian always played
poker and James always went out partying. Before, in school Jimmy and his siblings were watched
by an African American named Anne Mae Hollis.
Around the same time Jimmy started grade school, the Great Depression started. The depression
caused his family s grocery store to close down. With all the money he had saved up, he was able to
buy more land and was able to get a job at a insurance and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Board of Education then soon after the Baker vs. Carr in 1962. Carter then won the election to
the Georgia Senate. Then from 1966 to 1970 Jimmy took many loses. Finally on November 3,
1971 he won the gubernatorial election. After many wins Jimmy decided he was going to run for
president. After many years of talking about being president and slowly campaigning Carter ran
for president in 1976. He won Iowa, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania while losing in California
and New Jersey. The Democratic delegates voted Carter to be their candidate and Carter wanted
Walter Mondale to be his running mate. On October 6, 1976, Carter won the election against Gerald

The Allegorical Messages of The Divine Comedy by Dante...
The beginning lines of The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri indicate a pragmatic journey
through the dark woods. It is soon evident that The Divine Comedy is in terms of an allegory.
Midway through his life, Dante finds himself lost and in darkness. He is confused and unaware of
how he has ended up in these dark woods. Dante soon comes across Italian poet Virgil, who will
guide him through the Nine Circles of Hell. Dante Alighieris The Divine Comedy: Inferno portrays
Dante s life and adventure through Hell which allegorically represents a much broader subject: man
s journey through life to salvation.
The Divine Comedy: Inferno begins when Dante is midway through life and he has lost his way.
In the starting lines, Dante claims, Midway in our life s journey, I went astray From the straight
road and woke To find myself Alone in a dark wood. Dante declares that he has strayed away from
the straight road. In Dante s allegory, the straight road symbolizes the right and virtuous path that
leads to God. Mankind must be constantly seeking morality, and once man begins to lose sight of
this righteousness, they will begin to abandon God s honest path. In order to remain on the right
path, man must carefully strive for virtue and be aware of their sins.
Not knowing how he wandered away from the straight road, Dante finds himself in an eerie, dark
wood. In Dante s Inferno, this dark wood allegorically resembles the people of mankind who are
not consciously aware of

Cause And Effects Of Prohibition
What would happen if one were to prohibit all alcohol production and consumption? Well, it
happened before, from the Prohibition movement. Prohibition dates back to the early days of
America, when it was still a colony. However, due to it being a mostly orthodox movement, it had
not gained much traction. Until, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Prohibitions popularity surged;
most notably, in 1873 when a group of nuns and their followers sang and prayed in front of a
drugstore in Hillsboro, Ohio (Hill 10). This influx of support led to the passing of the 18th
Amendment, the only Amendment to ever be repealed. Whether the boost in popularity is due
mostly to the increasing amount of Christians, crime dramas, or immigration may never be known.
Yet, the causes and laws of Prohibition did play a significant role in the 1920s because they
showed the influence of lobby groups socially and federally, taught cautionary lessons about
American law and policy, and it greatly influenced our relations with other countries, specifically
Canada.
Firstly, Prohibition prominently displayed the power and influence of a lobby group in social and
government spheres. For example, the Women s War can be attributed to the closing of over
25,000 drinking establishments (Hill 12). This shows the major effects that the ASL, Anti Saloon
League, had on the social perceptions on drinking; the establishments only closed because they
were either visited by large mobs of people or were suspecting they

  • 4. Head Injury Case Study Do not write this assignment as question/answer. Put everything together as one complete essay. Your brain sits in your skull and is surrounded by cerebral fluid. When a head injury occurs, the brain may collide with the skull, then bounce back and collide with the opposite side of the skull. At the neuronal level, blow strong enough to create a concussion has the effect of twisting or stretching of the axons, which in turn creates swelling. In many cases, the swelling will subside and the neuron may return to normal. However, if the swelling of the axon is severe enough, the axon may break down and can cause permanent damage. Many athletes will experience multiple concussions over the course of their career. Recently the NFL has stated it expects 1 in 3 former players will develop long term cognitive issues. ... • 8. A Research Study On Nutrient Agar The first patient, 18 year old female presented with symptoms of high fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, myalgia, hypotension and signs of septic shock. In order to identify possible bacteria responsible for these symptoms, a vaginal swab was sampled, incubated on agar overnight and stored at 4C, after which they were examined throughout a series of microbiological tests. The initial culturing of the sample on nutrient agar indicated two organisms were present, and hence these were analysed individually. A Gram stain was applied to each bacterium and they were viewed individually under microscope at 1000x oil immersion magnification. This specified both Gram negative diplobacilli, which will be referred to as organism one, and Gram positive staphylococci, which will be referred to as organism two. Organism one demonstrated irregular, flat, wavy, medium sized and cream coloured colony morphology when viewed on agar plate, however limited conclusive data can be obtained from these observations alone. In order to provide further information for diagnosis, additional culturing was conducted on a range of selective and differential media types including Horse Blood, MacConkey, Mannitol Salt and Brilliant chromogenic UTI agar s. This demonstrated the organism was non haemolytic, lactose fermenting, as evident through a red colony formation on the MacConkey agar, and unable to survive in high salt concentrations, as indicated through the lack of growth on Mannitol Salt agar. • 9. American Short Fiction And World Story By Alan Cheuse Essay The article American Short Fiction and World Story by Alan Cheuse compares the old tales to the modern short story. To start the article he talks about the old type of stories by famous writer Homer. Here talks about how these books are written by the culture of the time. With that being said, he makes the assumption that the old time tales are only applicable to the time in history they were written. This is pretty obvious because in today s world we rarely see the events that happened in such ages. Next after talking about the period before modernism he starts to contemplate the creation of the modern short story. Here he makes a surprising claim, where he says that the modern story actually started in the United States with the famous poet Edgar Allen Poe. This is surprising to many because in the literature world most people associate modernism with European writers such as Chekov and Flaubert. He actually states the this modern sense of writing started in North America, then went to Europe and finally arrived to the res of the world including North America again. So we are left to ask, what is the modern short story like? Well, Alan Cheuse compares the modern short story to the art story. He says the perfectionists of it such as Hemmingway; owe their credit to writers like Poe because he in fact started it. The art story is a story that is written and can be applicable to any situation within real life. That is Alan Cheuse argument, and main ide of the whole article. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Australia has been involved in trade, investment, financial flows, technology transfers and the migration of labour since its foundation as a colony. What has changed is the size, direction and influence of these transfers, especially since 1980. There are a number of factors that have aided this transformation. They include: В•The expansion of new markets В– foreign exchange and capital markets are linked globally. They operate 24 hours a day with dealings any where in the world possible in real time. • 12. `` No Country For Old Men `` By Cormac Mccarthy Cormac McCarthy wrote a novel by the name of No Country for Old Men in 2005 which was created into a movie of the same name in 2007. The film adaptation represents both continuity within the film noir styles and also breaks away from them in relation to films such as The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep and The Killers . In the film there are multiple characters that are hard boiled and each try to figure out who did what and what happened for their own individual reasons. This characterization and the actions done by the main characters are remnant of film noir styles. In film noir, the main character is usually hard boiled by showing no emotionand does the task at hand of finding out the unanswered questions; usually being portrayed as a detective. This differs though from past styles as in the film there are many hard boiled characters and not just one that is considered the stronger character, the detective, who is above the others who are subjective to emotion. The portrayal of the hard boiled character has transitioned away from the traditional representation of the detective. In film noir there are various components that are needed in order to place a film within the genre, such as the established archetype of the hard boiled character. In most film noir, this character is usually a male detective that tries to find a killer while trying to fight off the evil around him. Typically this character shows no outward emotion and is seemed to be as the strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lesson I learned is that speeding turns into going to court. My court date was set for November 4th which was a Wednesday. I remember waking up that morning and thinking to myself, What the hell did I just get myself into? I was so nervous that before I left Arizona Western Community College to head to the Yuma Municipal Court, I went to my bathroom and threw my guts out. Yes, I know it s only a traffic ticket but I have never been to court in my whole life. So the drive over to the court was probably the longest drive ever. It felt like when I drive from Ashland to Portland. My Aunty Donna who was the Poly mom for all the polynesian boys who played football at Arizona Western brought me something to eat so I didn t pass out in court. Even after she brought me Mcdonald s, I was still feeling a bit groggy but I just said to myself that I am a man and I will face the consequences that I am given. For some reason I thoughtI was going to jail for a couple of days and Donna was telling me the whole time, STOP you are not going to jail for a traffic ticket! Yes, as silly as I sound thinking I was going to jail for a traffic ticket, it was all surreal and I was so scared and nervous. Finally, Elizabeth persuaded Prince Albert to visit and meet Lionel Logue. Elizabeth takes the Prince to meet Lionel, in which the speech therapist claimed that he could have Bertie reading a paragraph without any hesitation in that specific moment. • 18. Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address Throughout the semester, the readers have been clashing with each other over which label best fits the author, but they have ignored the minute particulars. These readers are looking at the forest as a broad generalization, and they are missing out on what the forest really is... a bunch of trees. All of these trees are diverse but similar: they are American authors, and the forest is American literature. One might think that this is a flimsy analogy, but it is the most apt and succinct way of explaining this issue. To truly understand any text, one must couch it within historical context; to be valid, an interpretation has to make sense within the historical context, and it has to agree with the minute particulars of the text. If either of these criterion are not met, then the interpretation will not be representative of the text whatsoever. It is imperative that one pay heed to the minute particulars and the text s historical context: otherwise, the text will be vastly misinterpreted and misrepresented in any discussion of the text. The students grossly mischaracterized Abraham Lincolns Gettysburg Address as a pro abolitionist tract; they also seemed to think that President Lincoln was some divine martyr for anti slavery sentiment, and that he was an exemplary person with regards to American identity. They could not be further from the truth. Historical context is paramount to understanding Lincoln s Gettysburg Address . The text starts off with an appeal to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Beach Erosion in Southern California Beach erosion is a serious issue today especially with human civilization building cities near the coast and disrupting the natural distribution of sediment deposition for our own convenience. Especially in southern California, beach erosion has some serious social, economic and environmental impacts on our society as a whole. Along with the rise of our sea levels due to global warming melting our polar ice caps, this erosionis having profound effects on coastal societies and has damaging effects on infrastructure worldwide. With human ingenuity, we have come up with various methods such as hard and soft engineering in order to both prevent and mitigate the effects of beach erosion. Introduction There are 2 types of beaches. One is erosion dominant and the other is deposition dominant. The erosion dominant one has more erosion than deposition so the beaches shrink. In the other case, if there is more deposition than erosion, then the beaches grow due to more sand being deposited upon it. The only reason why beaches shrink is due to erosion and this can happen for a variety of reasons. One reason being that if a shore tends to receive more destructive waves than constructive waves, then the beach will erode over time. This is because destructive waves erode and constructive waves deposit sediment. A very relevant example is that the beaches in southern California are naturally shrinking right now because they aren t receiving enough sediment from the San ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. What If Apple Is Wrong By Brian Bergstein Analysis In his article, What If Apple is Wrong, technology journalist for MIT Brian Bergstein questions the decisions tech giant Apple made after refusing to give the FBI a backdoor into iPhones data. In April of this year, Apple refused the FBI s request to open up the iPhone of Syed Rizwan Farook, who shot and killed 14 people in San Bernadino, California. Bergstein opens by relating the story of Devon Godfrey, who was shot in 2010. After using security camera footage to wrongly arrest the suspect on charge of murder, Godfrey s iPhonerevealed that the murderer was someone entirely different. Using this as a springboard for his line of questioning, Bergstein ponders whether the case would have been solved without access to victim s iPhone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He first points out that since their release, iPhones have replaced a lot of the evidence that was used in the past, such as cameras and notepads. Logically, this would mean that investigations are more difficult than they were in the past, because investigators have lost sources of evidence. This also supports the argument that authorities should have access to iPhones, because everything on them were accessible in different forms in the past. Bergstein then attempts to strengthen his argument by using the opinions of other important figures. First, he quotes Cyrus VanceJr., the District Attorney in Manhattan, who thinks the federal government should pass a law that would require the makers of smartphone operating systems to be able to give data to investigators. Bergstein wants the reader to see that someone with a lot of experience in the matter, shares his opinion. I think this also hurts his argument slightly, in that he picked a person with an obvious bias towards his cause. Bergstein himself recognizes this, and so he brings in another authority figure s opinion: Apple s CEO, Tim Cook. According to Bergstein, Tim Cook conceded that smartphones could impede justice. I think it was an intelligent decision to balance the source of opinions he included in his article, and although the reader knows Tim Cook disagrees overall that smartphones should be accessible by government officials, he does agree that Bergstein and Vance have a ... He could show different areas how great his city was and services could have been given in return for Mansa Musa s crew. To add on, Document B shows the trade route that Mansa Musa most likely took on his journey. When looked at, it intersects many trade routes. At the intersection he could have traded goods that his kingdom could not obtain, which is good for his kingdom s economy. Using the gold that he had, if he did not have any goods left, he could have given gold in return. Likewise, Mansa Musa followed existing trade routes, so he knew that the trade route existed and chose to take it. Marx s fundamental ideas are prevalent in both novels. Karl Marx is a German philosopher who challenged capitalism with the creation of communism. Marx s most essential and recognized beliefs are that class creates conflict, modern work is alienating, and class struggle is at the heart of the society. He also believes that individuals affected by capitalism are often rugged, which he describes as putting self interest above the needs of the community. (Tyson 60). In Jane Eyre, Jane questions other characters beliefs on Marxism throughout the novel. In Great Expectations, characters challenge Pip on his Marxist beliefs. Therefore, throughout the use of interclass relationships, classism and rugged individualism, readers are able to observe how Jane challenges others Marxist beliefs and other characters challenge Pip s Marxist beliefs. In the novel Jane Eyre, we re able to see how interclass relationships of all kinds were frowned upon within society. • 31. The Death Of The Black Death In Europe The Black Death spread throughout Europe producing one of the deadliest and most widespread pandemics in history. This disease arrived in Europe, in October 1347, as 12 Genoese ships docked in hope to trade silk and spices. As the town s people gathered on the docks to greet these ships after their long journey across the Black Sea, they encountered an unimaginable surprise! Upon the ships most of the sailors were dead. Individuals described these sailors as being covered with mysterious black boils that oozed blood and pus ( Black Death). These ships intending to trade instead passed a new disease, thus the illness of the Black Death was born. The plague continued to spread quickly across Europe as these trade ships traveled to vast regions including China, India, Persia, Syria and Egypt. The plague is an illness cause by the bacteria strain Yersinia pestis. This particular bacteria strain is known to live within wild rodents especially rats. This disease was transmitted to humans when fleas began to feed upon the blood of infected rats. A toxin produced by Yersinia pestis left the fleas unable to digest the rat blood. This inability to digest the blood left the fleas to vomit infected rat blood into the human bloodstream thus transmitting the plague to humans. The plague is now categorized into three basic types including Bubonic, Septicemic and Pneumonic. Since no names are explicitly given, however, ambiguity surrounds the identity of the speaker and loved one. One interpretation is that the persona is Bronte herself, having lost her mother and sisters at a young age. Another interpretation is that the persona is simply a figure through which Bronte expresses the general experiences of love, loss, and memory. However, after reading the poem, it is hard to imagine someone crafting such a powerful piece without having personally experienced something similar. Despite her claims, however, in the final stanza, the speaker acknowledges the rapturous pain of remembering and ends the poem with a rhetorical question: How could I seek the empty world again? So identifying the expectations of the customer and performing service in accordance to it is a task that requires great skill. But at the end of the day if customer s expectation is met and the customer is satisfied with the product, we could say that quality has been achieved. During this stage, my customer (guide) was regularly informed about my progress. He would then suggest particulars that increased the overall quality of my work and made it a better product. Today, organizations around the globe rely heavily on management to ensure effective and efficient business. A wide variety of management models exist in order to accommodate different business needs. This essay will briefly discuss various managementmodels, but will mainly focus on the Competing Values Framework (CVF) and current examples demonstrating two models within the CVF. The final model within the CVF is internal process. This model is similar to the rational goals model, but its main focus is on consolidation and continuity within the company (Boddy, 1998). Max Weber played a large role in the development of bureaucratic management within this model. Bureaucratic administration allows businesses to thrive in terms of precision, continuity, unity, and the reduction of material and personal costs, according to Weber (Weber, 1978). Though each of these models is crucial to the CVF, the remainder of this essay will focus on comparing and contrasting only the open systems model and internal process model. Internal process and open system models are located diagonally from each other on the CVF diagram. That being said, many differences exist between the two models; however, the basic management goal is similar. These two models will be analyzed based on the framework shown in diagram B. Contemporary examples, mainly Haier Power and Deloitte, but also Google and McDonalds, will exemplify each model. It is important to note that many companies don t strictly follow one model. Social networking sites began to become popular in 2002 and although still in their youth, it has many disadvantages that should not be overlooked. • 40. Analysis Of The Middle Passage Passage Stolen from Africa, brought to America, fighting on arrival, fighting for survival. I have sung along to this Bob Marley lyrics for years without recognizing how much power and truth his words represent (Bob Marley, 2017). Slaves were treated like animals and owners had no disregard for their lives, working them from birth to death. Not all slaves believed that their fate was set in stone, those brave few found ways to resist. The Middle Passage voyage that African slaves were subjected to was immensely dehumanizing. Before boarding the boats, slaves were examined by surgeons, branded and held in a holding pen until the slave ships arrived. These ships were nicknamed floating tombs because of the deaths that occurred during the voyage ( Atlantic Slave Trade). These boats were cramped, overcrowded and unsanitary. The male slaves were kept nude to try and embarrass them and they were made to dance as a form of exercise. In addition, food portions were very sparse and infrequent (Dr. Godshalk s Presentation on the Atlantic Slave Trade). Slaves attempted to resist the mistreatment and dehumanizing, but the slave traders were often a step ahead and attempts to resist resulted in the slave s death. One way in which the slaves tried to resist was by refusing to eat and drink in an effort to starve themselves. The slave traders had a tool called the Speculum Oris that was used to hold the slaves mouths open (Dr. Godshalk s Presentation on the Atlantic Slave Trade). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is soon evident that The Divine Comedy is in terms of an allegory. Midway through his life, Dante finds himself lost and in darkness. He is confused and unaware of how he has ended up in these dark woods. Dante soon comes across Italian poet Virgil, who will guide him through the Nine Circles of Hell. Dante Alighieris The Divine Comedy: Inferno portrays Dante s life and adventure through Hell which allegorically represents a much broader subject: man s journey through life to salvation. The Divine Comedy: Inferno begins when Dante is midway through life and he has lost his way. In the starting lines, Dante claims, Midway in our life s journey, I went astray From the straight road and woke To find myself Alone in a dark wood. Dante declares that he has strayed away from the straight road. In Dante s allegory, the straight road symbolizes the right and virtuous path that leads to God. Mankind must be constantly seeking morality, and once man begins to lose sight of this righteousness, they will begin to abandon God s honest path. In order to remain on the right path, man must carefully strive for virtue and be aware of their sins. Prohibition dates back to the early days of America, when it was still a colony. However, due to it being a mostly orthodox movement, it had not gained much traction. Until, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Prohibitions popularity surged; most notably, in 1873 when a group of nuns and their followers sang and prayed in front of a drugstore in Hillsboro, Ohio (Hill 10). This influx of support led to the passing of the 18th Amendment, the only Amendment to ever be repealed. Whether the boost in popularity is due mostly to the increasing amount of Christians, crime dramas, or immigration may never be known. Yet, the causes and laws of Prohibition did play a significant role in the 1920s because they showed the influence of lobby groups socially and federally, taught cautionary lessons about American law and policy, and it greatly influenced our relations with other countries, specifically Canada. Firstly, Prohibition prominently displayed the power and influence of a lobby group in social and government spheres. For example, the Women s War can be attributed to the closing of over 25,000 drinking establishments (Hill 12). This shows the major effects that the ASL, Anti Saloon League, had on the social perceptions on drinking; the establishments only closed because they were either visited by large mobs of people or were suspecting they ...
