This document discusses the evaluation of crude drugs through various methods including organoleptic, microscopic, physical, and chemical properties. Drug evaluation determines identity, purity, and quality by examining characteristics like color, odor, taste, morphology, microscopic structures, moisture content, viscosity, melting point, refractive index, extractive values, and presence of active chemical constituents. Properties are assessed using techniques like thin layer chromatography to standardize drugs and identify adulteration. Microscopic evaluation especially helps in identification through histological examination of powdered drugs.
