This document discusses the implications of open notebook science using blogs and wikis for chemical education. It outlines how chemistry teachers can produce chemists through selecting and delivering content, assessing skills and knowledge, and catalyzing the learning process. New ways of delivering content like screencasts and recorded lectures are presented. Open notebook science promotes full transparency through publishing all aspects of the scientific process online in open access formats. This can merge research and teaching in new ways like displaying student assignments using live research data. The document advocates that teaching and research are moving toward being more open and automated through tools like blogs, wikis, and virtual worlds like Second Life.
