PARTS OF SPEECH
Parts of Speech
 Words are divided into different kinds or classes called parts of
speech.
 According to their use or according to the work they do in sentence.
 The parts of speech explain how a word is used in a sentence.
 Most parts of speech can be divided into sub-classes
 It is important to know that a word can sometimes be in more than
one parts of speech.

NOUN
 A noun is a naming word.
 A noun names a person, place, thing, or idea.
 A noun is a word used as the name of a person, place or thing,
animal, feeling and idea.
Ex. Ashok is a nice boy.
Akbar was a great king. Person Boy, girl, doctor
Place New Delhi, park, outer space
Thing Pen, watermelon, statue of unity
Idea Fairness, friendliness, acceptance
PRONOUN
 Pronouns replace the name of a person, place, thing or idea in a
sentence.
 A pronoun is a word that we use at the place of noun.
Ex.
Preeti is a good dancer, she loves dancing.
The books are where you left them.

ADJECTIVE
 An adjective is word which shows special of noun.
 An adjective is a word used to add something to the meaning of a
noun.
Ex. She is a brave girl.
He is a tall boy.
There are twenty boys in the class.
Size/Shape tiny, long, oval
Texture prickly, smooth, leathery
Odor/Tasty nutty, flowery, sour
Appearance bright, beautiful, faded
VERB
 Any action is called verb.
 What is going on in a sentence is called verb.
 A verb shows what someone or something is doing.
Ex.
I am writing a book.
I am a teacher.
Action ask, jump, think, want, run, dance, eat, fix
State of Being is, are, be, have, has, was, were
ADVERB
 An adverb is a word used to add something to the meaning of a
verb, an adjective or another adverb.
Ex.
He finished the work quickly.
How loudly, quickly
How often always, never
When before, soon
Where away, inside
PREPOSITION
 A preposition is a word used to link nouns, pronouns, or phrases to
other words within a sentence
 Prepositions are usually short words, and they are normally placed
directly in front of nouns.
Ex.
There is a bird in the garden.
I am going to Kashmir. About Around Into
Across Before Through
After Between to
CONJUCTION
 A conjunction joins two ideas or shows the relationship between
two parts of a sentence.
 Conjunction is a word used to join words, sentence, phrases ,
clauses etc.
Ex. Two and two make four.
I ran fast, but missed the train.
And So Until
Because Through While
But Or unless
INTERJECTION
 An interjection expresses strong emotion and is often followed by
an exclamation point.
 Interjection is a word which expresses some sudden feelings.
Ex.
Hurry! We won the game.
Aw Hurry up! Hey
Bravo Oh no! Well
