Thomas Gordon designed Teacher Effectiveness Training which identifies three types of relationships between teachers and students: teaching and learning time, student-owned problem time where the student addresses issues, and teacher-owned problem time where the teacher addresses issues. The training is based on the assumptions that students are motivated to do good, helped by being accepted, and capable of rationally solving their own problems.
