My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding is a British documentary series that aired on Channel 4 from 2010-2012, profiling the lives of Romani people in the UK. It uses an expository mode with voiceovers and interviews to explore memories and opinions about weddings and events in an entertaining way. The interviews change locations and elicit emotional responses from audiences. Channel 4 is known for realistic documentaries that use expository modes to engage audiences.

2. My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding is a British Documentary that
is broadcasted on Channel 4, it was first shown on
Television in 2010 and after a successful series of 5
episodes they began filming for a second series in 2012.
The documentary looks at the world of Gypsies and
entertains it viewers through the use of its wild dresses
and comedic effect. It also had a Christmas Special in
2011 which proved to be a hit with the viewers.

3. My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding was produced using the
expository mode, effectively this mode generally uses
voiceovers, and presents information to the audience.
Interviews occur with generally subjective accounts
revealing, not personal information which would be
evident in reflexive documentaries but instead memories
are explored and opinions about upcoming events. This
documentary can also be produced in the observational
style as it looks and follows Gypsies lives throughout
whilst also exposing what they do.

4. The interviews throughout the documentaries look at
people’s memories, they also offer a personal thought
throughout. The interviews that take place change
locations, they do not remain in the same place at all
time. The audience effect of this is that the interviews
portray their feelings which can emotionally attach an
audience to that person or event.

5. Channel 4 is home to a variety of different documentaries,
the most notable are “Supersize vs Superskinny”, “Wild
Things”, “24 hours in A & E”. The majority of Channel 4
documentaries look at current realistic events that are
taking place, and the challenges with life and events. Most
of Channel 4’s documentaries use the expository mode
because it gives off an emotional reaction to the audience.
This is something I will be bearing in mind for my
documentary when I look to use the expository mode of
documentary.
